Victory is starting to pick up!

I'm not a big fan of docking type mobile suits. I just don't see how it'd be advantageous. And Victory has done a good job of showing how crappy the concept is, with the legs of the Victory Gundam being shot down no less than 3 times already. But i won't lie, the time Uso ejected his legs into an unsuspecting Zolo was one of the coolest things I've seen in the franchise.

The Shrike team seems pretty awesome. A unit full of hot chicks. What isn't to like. I loved Marbet's comment that Oliver was like a pimp. She's just jealous.

Because Modular suits have versatility. If Kamille got as banged up as Uso does regularly, hed be forced to retreat every time his legs got blown up. Uso can ejectthe legs and keep fighting.

Yeah, I can see that as being a pretty big advantage, But why not deploy it in mobile suit mode? Of the three series that have featured docking gundams, they usually have it deploy in Core Fighter mode rather than in MS mode. That seems to have more risks than it is worth to me.

This show is really starting to grow on me. It has a very charming tone to it. Very different from the other Gundams I've watched. I don't really believe it's really almost 100 years after the OYW. It feels so..rural so far.

Apparently the composer for Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is the same guy that did Victory's soundtrack. What a pro.

Found this post on the Gundam board about Char's Counterattack, and I like it quite a bit.

Gundam Mk Dead posted...
The mass movement of humanity to space for the good of the Earth has always been a part of Zeon's philosophy.

Char acknowledges it at Dakar, but it doesn't really come to prominence until he becomes the whacked out crusader leading Neo Zeon in '93.

I don't see his move from Zeta to CCA as such a leap, though. His Gryps-era character arc is facing up to the fact that he can never escape his past as Char/Casval. When he wanted to be Quattro, no one would let him. It was always "come back to Axis, Char." Or "lead the AEUG, Char." He's not defined by his own desires but by the expectations of others. People will always force their expectations on him to do what needs doing. After watching the Earth Sphere continue to slide deeper and deeper into what he perceives as a hopeless situation, he takes power and resolves to solve the crisis himself because no one else is going to bother. It's what the Gryps Conflict taught him to do.

The tragedy is that he became someone struck from the same mold as Gihren and Haman when he did so. That his final mobile suit has "zabi" in its name is rather telling. He becomes everything he hated.

The guy who made the post about Char responded about Lalah obsession.

Gundam Mk Dead posted...
I believe the Lalah obsession stems from a mounting sense of desperation and misanthropy.

I'm sure, on some level, he still doesn't want to be doing this. Not to say he's wracked with guilt, but Casval never sought any more power than what it would take to accomplish his goals. Young Char took the promotions and accolades to get close to the Zabis. Quattro only agreed to step up when the AEUG needed a leader. It's only in the second Neo Zeon War that Char actively pursues a position of power, which runs counter to what he had been up until that point.

I'm sure he'd like to live in a world that wasn't so backward and narrow-minded. I think he would have liked to find another way. And when you start thinking like that, it's easy to start thinking of could-have-beens. As he digs himself deeper and deeper into this bitter, self-righteous hole, he probably starts to think about all of the things leading him to that point. He probably wishes he had lived his life a bit differently and what could have helped them.

And then you come to someone he once idolized, someone who is impossible to besmirch because she's a perfect memory rather than a living, breathing person with faults. It's easy to think the best of the dead. It's easy to think they might have saved us from ourselves. It's easy for Char to blame the Titans, Haman, Amuro, the Federation. Anyone but himself. So he does blame them. He pushes them down and makes them evil, evil enough that he doesn't feel bad about fighting brothers-in-arms like Amuro and Bright, while propping up Lalah as some sort of Messianic mother figure that could have stopped all of this and shown him the way to happiness if Amuro just hadn't killed her.

Char is going mad with his self-appointed burden of steering the world, and he's looking for a light at the end of the tunnel. But someone so fundamentally broken and bitter can't see one, so he looks at the past through rose-tinted glasses.

Just got minor spoiled for AGE gen 2. Nothing that big. Just promo art.

This show is gonna get ballin

Yeah, I saw that too. Fritto looks legit.

And I just finished 0080. 'Galcia' was pretty funny. I'm bummed about Bernie, but glad that Chris is ok. The twist that the battle was for nothing was fantastic. Kinda reminded me of IGLOO in that regard.

I was soooo pissed at the end of 0080 when Al's dad got off the shuttle and said that they captured a Zeon ship with nuclear warheads. I knew then and there that Bernie was going to die for nothing.

Just finished Victory episode 17. That episode pissed me off. I get the feeling that Maria's speech is suppose to be the Zanscare Empire version of the "Sieg Zeon" speech, but it certainly didn't have the same gravity because they decided to have the episode be a clip show before her speech.

Haven't seen the AGE 2 stuff, but looking forward to it! I guess that seals the deal about Fritto Lays getting killed off in gen 1.

0080 reminded me of IGLOO as well.

And Saro you're comparing Maria to Gihren. Gihren had the whole of Zeon eating out of the palm of his hand after his speech, that guy was a damn good orator. I'm pretty sure he could have made the N-Gage a success if he made a speech about it!

Dad: Someone is dieing?
Me: Yeup.
Dad: Kind of dark for a kid's show.
Me: This kind of thing happens a lot in this franchise. You should have seen Z Gundam!

AGE 10:

That ending was very interesting. Yark Dole mentions that their suits are hard to acquire, that must mean they don't produced them themselves, or maybe the materials are hard to get. It was nice seeing Desil getting owned, I didn't think he would be pushed around by a new Gundam so easily after his show of power the last time. So it's pretty much confirmed that Hinata urged him to retreat the first time that he fought Fritto Lays.

And damn it they reused stock footage :(

About halfway through Victory Gundam so far and here are my thoughts:

- Overall it seems to be a mix between Z and ZZ in terms of tone. You have that constant dread that was persistent through much of Zeta, but also a large cast of children and a lot of slapstick humor.
- Very charming tone. I think its the artstyle. Has a rustic fantasy feel to it.
- Amazing soundtrack. Probably managed to take over 0079s spot of "best soundtrack"
- I have a new "people are dieing" screenshot.

Oliver and Marbet are a cute couple. I thought the episode where they got married was adorable. Especially Uso's jealousy of Oliver. Marbet teasing Uso was epic. "Oh, so you want me to help you have a child?" Dayum, she is cold blooded.

It's kind of interesting. While Zeon reminded me of Nazi Germany in a lot of ways, Zanscare reminds me of Pre-War Japan

Let's take a look at the similarities
- Both societies are extremely authoritarian to their civillians.
- Both societies use their figurehead ruler as a religious tool to drum up nationalism as well as build up a zealot-like fervor.
- Both societies were really ran by a military dictatorship
- Both groups were horribly inhuman to those they ruled over..

My vote goes to ZZ. A lot of people give it crap, but I rather liked it. Yes it's sillier than 0079 and Zeta, but so what. It still has the UC balls-to-the-wall attitude, especially after about episode 18.
