I've got it going up to Mario/Bowser, picking up steam from a divisional win to push out Samus but ultimately losing to fellow Nintendo rivals. On another note, I've got Cloud > Link.

I certainly would. This all depends on how much the "rivalry" component actually plays into the results, but Red/Blue certainly benefits the most. They're iconic, they have nostalgia, they'll almost certainly have the fad vote a la L-Block, and they strike me as the type to get on a roll quickly, especially given a handful of strong early performances.

I don't think Ocelot is that much stronger than Ken at all.

Of course, Red would've done more than squeak by Ocelot if it were a day match, but Red/MMX and Ken/Ganon were both day matches, if I'm not mistaken, and that favors Red and Ganon.

But I just don't see any benefits Red/Blue has over Ryu/Ken other than Pokemon is stronger than SF, and that's not enough as far as I'm concerned.

Because Red/Blue is likely to boost from the format significantly. So will Ryu/Ken, but not as much. It comes down to how much you think GameFAQs will be voting based on the format.

I don't think Ryu/Ken is going to be that much stronger than just plain Ryu. Ryu is kind of a stand-in for everything that represents fighting games to begin with. Ryu/Ken is definitely an iconic rivalry, yeah, but I can only see them boosting so much.

Red/Blue is very different. That rivalry represents a ton of good feelings people have about RBY. Just Red or just Blue is one thing, but that rivalry is one of the most famous in gaming, probably more famous than Ryu/Ken. Red/Blue has a good chance of being closer to RBY than it is to Red. Will that be enough to beat Ryu/Ken? Probably not, but it isn't a terrible pick.

It isn't. Blue hounds you the whole damn game. It's like having to fight a dramatic battle with Ken every two rounds on SFIV, and each round his EX moves cost less, he fights more smartly, and his ultra hits harder. It has a very strong impact, and the feeling you get when you win the final faceoff is priceless.

Well, Ryu/Ken is mostly a rivalry that came about through out-of-game means. Ryu and Ken are rivals in the SF lore, yeah, but who cares about the SF lore? It was mostly a Player 1 vs. Player 2 thing. If you play SF2 main mode it doesn't end with a climactic fight between rivals; the rivalry is just sort of 'there'. It's still Top 5 rivalry ever, but yeah.

I think Red/Blue's rivalry is going to hold stronger feelings for people. Your first fight is against Blue, right after he counterpicks your starter. He dogs your steps through the entire game, showing up at almost random moments just to make sure you haven't gotten sloppy. He's got the ridiculous catchphrase that everyone loves. And then, after you beat the Elite Four, he's already beaten them and is the real final boss. That blew younger me's mind.

I definitely didn't grow up on SF so I could be underselling it, but in general I think people just love the Red/Blue rivalry more. Ryu/Ken sort of just exists while Red/Blue had an great buildup and conclusion, if that makes sense.

Eh, I don't know if that was entirely true. It's probably just because I was a kid who grew up with Street Fighter, but there was always a "Who do you like better: Ryu or Ken?" underlying thing there, even when SF wasn't huge on story.

It does more than "sort of exist." There's a reason why Bacon picked it as one of the example rivalries you could nominate.

Blue is probably closer to Red than Scorpion is to Sub-Zero, if only because while Red's got some issues with contests (is he Red? is he Ash? is he just the Pokemon Trainer from Brawl? why should I care about him?), Blue's fanbase is more 'solidified'. Everyone knows that Blue=the rival=Gary Oak, and the easily recognizable design helps with that.

Anyway, there's definitely something more to Ryu/Ken like you said, which is why it's one of the most iconic gaming rivalries. I'm just saying that among people who played and loved RBY while growing up, Red/Blue was about as memorable as it got.

This is a bit different though because these two are actually the same character. Whereas both of those the characters are distinctly different. They take each others roles if you played the opposite version. if you played Red then Blue is the rival and the d-bag who stalks you through the game. If you played Blue then it's the opposite.

The colors don't matter. You can choose you and your rival's name, after all. Red and Blue are their canonical names, but as long as the pics make GameFAQs aware that it's RBY Protagonist vs. RBY Rival, they'll get the picture.
