like the VGMC 4 per day is enough
Yeah, I agree...
Either way, I've never used bracketmaker to... you know... make brackets, so I don't really know how would that go, and even LESS in a bracket involving VGMusic (...though I seriously hope that Curse of Darkness upsets DKC2 even with a 16 seed).

Tough stuff... "I definitely think I need to scrap mine and do it over.
There's no way Secret of Mana and Super Mario 64 should be making it as far as they do in my predix (but then they went up against the weakest songs in some lineups, IMO, and earlier matchups are coinflips...)
i don't see how anyone could begin to predict a 448 song double elimination tournament
I did mine today -- winner's bracket only, mind you. Took a little while, but it wasn't really hard. Except when there was a tough match, because there were severe ramifications for each choice you made.
Like, let's say you're picking in an 8 vs 9 match in round 1. You could go either way. You pick the 8 seed. However, in round 2, the 8 seed has a terrible song and the 9 seed would have had a really good song. The winner there faces the 1 seed, who is trying to save their better material for later, so their round 2 song is not at strong as it will be later. Thus, if the 9 seed would have won, it might have taken out that 1 seed. The 8 seed would fall flat. And that 1 seed would have gone on to crush the 4 seed in round 3, except if the 9 seed breaks through and ousts it, the 4 seed will in turn crush it.
So yeah, one small change early on can have a pretty dramatic Butterfly Effect. It's rather entertaining looking at the predictions made so far because absolutely none of them are similar. (Except that you can tell very clearly who's a Touhou fanboy.)

Not that big a deal. Make an account. Click on the link for the winner's bracket and select Predict It. It will ask you who you want to win each match, using radio buttons.
And I picked CoD over DKC2 (and another three rounds thereafter,) although I seem to be alone in that regard. Everyone else seems to like Forest Interlude.
SoM is going to lose in the first round. It was insanely weak in VGMC5.
You also have to ask "which songs were in VGMC5?" Granted, the round 1 song, Angel's Fear, was there, but so was Danger, which I voted against with extreme prejudice and I'm probably the biggest SoM fan around. Besides, are you telling me you're in love with the Cave Story main theme by contrast?
Also, don't use VGMC5 as a strict comparison yet. After all, *EVERY* Touhou entry was out by halfway through round 2. I have a funny feeling at least one of the 5 Touhou games will live to see round 3 here, and that's out of 6 rounds total rather than out of 8. As poorly as SoM may have done in VGMC5, that doesn't mean it will auto-bomb here.
It seems like seeding is indeed a relevant factor (contrary to what I expected from a VGM contest), but in the wrong way...
In the wrong way? You mean you think the 16 seeds are favored over the 1 seeds? I would generally disagree with that statement, however there could be some truth to it -- the top seeds are back-loading their songlist, hoping to be well stocked for the long haul. Mostly everyone else is hanging on as long as they can, so their lists are (or should be) frontloaded. It's possible we might see some really strong songs go out early, not because they have high seeds, but because they have high aspirations.
Out of 12 bracket predictions so far, the only unanimous round 1 pick is Umineko over Radiant Historia. The following matches are either evenly divided, 6-6, or have a 7-5 split
* Final Fantasy VIII vs Ar Tonelico II * Lost Odyssey vs Xenogears * Touhou 3 vs Persona 3 FES * Barkley: Shut up and Jam Gaiden vs Bastion * Umineko Chiru vs Mega Man 2 * Chrono Cross vs Dungeon Fighter Online * Mega Man X vs Final Fantasy Tactics * Final Fantasy VII vs Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia * Guilty Gear X vs Xenosaga III * Sonic 3 vs Final Fantasy X * Phoenix Wright: T&T vs Skies of Arcadia * F-Zero X vs Perfect Dark

All I meant was I think Angel's Fear will lose to Cave Story's main theme, nothing about the rest of SoM. If you want my personal opinion, i really like both and I think they're both too good for round 1.

This is what I anxiously expect to see in this particular contest. As I previously said, it involved a lot of strategy to have the songs on the songlists ordered accordingly. I think it will indeed come down to an endurance contest for some games.
And I picked CoD over DKC2 (and another three rounds thereafter,) although I seem to be alone in that regard. Everyone else seems to like Forest Interlude.
...Which I think is a very bad thing. From the little I've heard from the DKC2 soundtrack, none of it sounds particularly strong or engaging. It also comes down to 2 things:
1._Is Mortvia Aqueduct more liked than Mortvia Fountain? 2._Is Forest Interlude supposed to be a low-midcarder, or something more powerful than just that?
It seems like seeding is indeed a relevant factor (contrary to what I expected from a VGM contest), but in the wrong way...

Yeah, that's what I meant, but I was also referring to Secret of Mana, when people said that it was going to bomb in this contest despite its high seeding. There's definitely going to be some unexpected matches in there, though.
This was a very elaborate way of saying bump.

MATCH TEMPLATE (for winner's bracket) Thread Title... "Best OST Contest: SongA vs SongB, SongC vs SongD" See notes below if you need to start the thread in my place.
Welcome to another round of the Best OST Contest, where we decide the best game soundtrack by voting on the songs in it.
Match Rules: * You must listen to both songs in the match. Use the provided links. * You must vote on the songs in the match. Not the game's overall music. Not how much you like the game itself. ***VOTE ON THE SONGS*** * To help enforce rule 2, All votes must be given for the song title, not the game or the seed number. No exceptions.
Other details: * The match will last 24 hours from the time this thread is posted. Regardless of when the next day's topic goes up, or when the current topic actually gets counted and closed, votes count up to 24.0 hours after the match's beginning. * Normal contest rules apply regarding alts, rallying, multi-voting, etc. * No mid-thread tallies, or comments related to a vote count. It can influence the voters. Regardless of how excited you may be, please let things evolve naturally. * If there are two matches, you do not have to vote for both. If you want to change your vote, please identify that it is a change to your vote. Do not erase the old vote. * Advanced voting is allowed. Contact me with your vote by PM. Check the spreadsheet for the appropriate songs to listen to: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoS8GGHS9FDGdFprRGpQa3ZtRGcwTTM5VTQ2SWViUGc&hl=en_US * Re-read the third rule. Votes naming only the game will not be counted.
The spirit of this contest is a bit different from what you might be used to in a contest. Upsets are expected. The tournament will be double elimination, so if you're favorite game loses here, it isn't done. You can see the rest of the rules on the contest or figure out how the heck we got to where we are here: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/60522913
I will start the new thread each morning sometime between 7 am and 10 am Eastern. If the thread is NOT started by that time, someone should open the thread themselves. If you do...
* Use the template above. * Pull the appropriate info from the spreadsheet. There should be a sheet with the info just for the current round. * If you tally the votes from yesterday's topic, be sure to indicate that it is an unofficial total. * The name of the thread should start with "Best OST Contest" and then name the song match-ups. No game titles.
What if, instead of making this a contest, we made this a "league" of sorts, with a season? That way -all- the games will be fully represented, and we won't have to worry about all this strategizing/ordering crap.
Of course, this contest has started. STILL, I think it would be awesome if we did that when this is all said and done!!
(If this has been discussed already....sorry!)

"Ah, a party! We haven't had one of those. So...what is a party?" "Well, you drink punch and eat CAKE! ...I think."
I responded to your in-topic post, but no nobody's put it in exactly those terms (that I've seen.) I've seen some suggestions about making the face-offs between random songs (off the entire OST or off a shortlist,) but not a round robin league. It could be interesting. You're welcome to try it after we finish. =)
Because you, along with Angelo, are a hardcore fan of DKC2's soundtrack (heck, you even uploaded 2 songs of that same game in VGMotD!). You're more into that kind of stuff than the style of Mortvia Aqueduct.

^ Whether or not that was a sarcastic comment, the reason Pika's choice doesn't make sense to me is because he is mainly aimed towards fast, upbeat, and often powerful-sounding, outstanding tracks. I didn't know Forest Interlude was going to make an impact of some sort on him, given the calm, simple, and (dare I say) forgettable nature of that song.

Advokaiser posted... SuperAngelo128 posted... in the losers bracket you'll see a bunch of songs twice
No, you won't. You'll be listening to the NEXT track in the songlist when it goes to the Losers' Bracket (at least as far as I'm concerned).
You'll hear the next song when it GOES to the loser's bracket. However due to the prolonged nature of the loser's bracket, each song will get used for two successive matches. So if a game wins their first LB match, they use the same song again for the second before moving to the next slot on their list. The only exception is for the round 1 losers who will only play song 2 once.
I'm totally nervous for AT2 in the near future. Songs 2 and 3 are the danger rounds for it, IMO, and it doesn't help that it has to try and take on DKC2 with Song 2. If AT2 makes it to Mechanical Maze/Song 4, I think it's in very good shape, but it's a matter of actually getting there. ...And I have a feeling it's going to have to do that in the Loser's Bracket with Waltz of Gears winning twice, and I'm not sure I like the odds there.

TheKnightOfNee posted... Now I'm confused about why my vote didn't make sense at all too.
Hmmm... well, you seem to be focused on songs that are more strictly rhythmic, like funky-driven songs, electronic music, and party-esque songs. But I got to admit that your vote is actually the one that made sense the most to me. I just didn't predict your vote very well. The other 3 votes were the ones that really made no sense to me (particularly Pika's vote).
BUT ANYWAY, I'm no one to tell people what they are supposed to like or dislike. I just thought I knew the VGMusic-uploaders' tastes well-enough to predict them, that's all.

Oh hey, we're using Atfynt's Touhou 3 uploads over the Akyu album ones(or I suspect they're Akyu)? That's good, but do we have the rest of the links changed? I don't think he has them all, and he's the only one I know that claims to use FMPMD2000.
I used to follow some japanese uploader, but I'm not 100% sure if it's the same.

"As the size of an explosion increases, the number of social situations it is incapable of solving approaches zero." -Vaarsuvius, Order of the Stick
Quick synopsis of the nomination period for those who missed it:
* Everyone was allowed to submit one nomination per day (for a week.) When they did, they also submitted the songlist. * Everyone reviewed the submissions thus far and the prerogative to "support" as many of the games as they liked. * At the end of day 7, we closed nominations. One day later, we cut off support voting. * The top 64 games got in. This happened to work out that all the five-vote games got in and none of the four-vote games. (And there were a LOT of four-vote games.)
So what got support votes was determined by quite a few different factors -- how early it was nominated, how well-known it was, how determined people were to listen to everything they didn't recognize, how freely everyone gave out votes, whether those voters appreciated the particular songlist chosen for that game or not...in the end we had a field of 64. We maybe have an abundance of Touhou games, but besides that, I think the depth and variety of the field is rather remarkable. Like quite a few others, I nominated one game each day for a total of seven. Most of my games did not get in, so obviously I'm disappointed for a few of my favorite games, some of which did get that fenceline fourth vote, but I've enjoyed having the chance to check out a number of games I would have never otherwise considered or maybe even heard of.
Xuxon posted... yeah, DKC2 should have Lockjaw's Locker or Snakey Chantey
or wait, they got rid of Snowbound Land for Flight of the Zinger? Snowbound Land definitely should have stayed.
Snowbound Land was never on the list. Snakey Chantey was taken out for Flight Of The Zinger which was a good choice, but the real travesty was taking out Lockjaw's Locker for Bayou Boogie, one of the worst songs in the game. So now Hot-Head Bop is probably gonna rot in the alt spot and Snowbound Land doesn't even get a chance.
