The nominations are closed, the support votes are tallied, and your bracket has finally arrived! Make your predictions on the winner's bracket up through Friday night, although we will start the tournament proper Thursday morning.

Winner's Bracket: http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=410364&tclass=Winner%27s%20Bracket
Loser's Bracket part A: http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=410364&tclass=Loser%27s%20Bracket%2C%20Part%20A
Loser's Bracket part B: http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=410364&tclass=Loser%27s%20Bracket%2C%20Part%20B%20for%20real
Loser's Bracket ending and Finals: http://www.bracketmaker.com/tmenu.cfm?tid=410364&tclass=Loser%27s%20Bracket%2C%20Ending

Particulars of the contest:
1. Rounds will begin the morning of Thursday, October 6. Two matches will be active at a time, moving through the winner's bracket. We will shift to 1 match per day for the top 8.

2. Matches will launch (as of this writing) at some point in the morning hours. The topic will remain open for 24 hours, regardless of precisely when it goes up. If I do not post by 10:00 AM (Eastern), then someone else should post for me.

3. Matches will be standard contest rules. No alts, no rallying, et cetera, et cetera. The voters will be making their decision based on the song representing the soundtrack, not the soundtrack itself. So if Chrono Cross has a crappy round 1 song, too bad! As such, votes given must be for the name of the song, not the game or the seed.

4. The entire list of nominations, along with their songlists can be found here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AoS8GGHS9FDGdFprRGpQa3ZtRGcwTTM5VTQ2SWViUGc&hl=en_US
Each game will use its first game in round 1, second in round 2, etc. In the event a tiebreaker is needed, a new round will begin using the "alternate" songs.

5. When the winner's bracket is completed, we will begin the loser's bracket. Due to the intracacies of a loser's bracket, seeding is much more complicated and involves lots of byes. The short explanation:
Round 1 (song 2) - 32 losers from Winner's round 1 => 16 remain
Round 2 (song 3) - 16 from R1 plus 16 losers from Winner's round 2 => 16 remain
Round 3 (song 3) - 16 => 8 remain
Round 4 (song 4) - 8 from R3 plus 8 losers from Winner's round 3 => 8 remain
Round 5 (song 4) - 8 => 4 remain
Round 6 (song 5) - 4 from R5 plus 4 losers from Winner's round 4 => 4 remain
Round 7 (song 5) - 4 => 2 remain
Round 8 (song 6) - 2 plus 2 losers from Winner's round 5 => 2
Round 9 (song 6) - 2 => 1
Round 10 (song TBA) - R9 winner plus loser of Winner's round 6
Winner of round 10 advances to the grand finals against the champion of the winner's bracket. They will need to win twice since the winner's champion has not yet been defeated.

First impressions of my own:

A) V6 Division is ridiculous. 'No one here gets out alive' is a good way of describing it. Bastion vs. Barkley, Homestuck vs. FF9, FFX vs. S&K3...crazy stuff.

B) I wonder if momentum is going to be an important factor here. Are people going to vote with what comes next in mind, or will they just evaluate the songs currently on display? Only time and results will tell.

C) Both of my weaker noms drew super tough opponents. I'm sad :(

Imperishable Night's list of noms is pretty good. I actually gave it a support - it's got my favorite Touhou song (Lunatic Princess), some solid choices (Love Colored Master Spark, History of the Moon), and the rest aren't bad.

hmm that's the one i played for the ABGC. iirc it was less offensive than the other soundtracks in general but i don't remember anything i particularly enjoyed.

let's see, Lunatic Princess - horrible
LCMS - ehhh it's alright i guess
HotM - this one's decent... mostly. with about 20 seconds of godawful mixed in.

It's an okay song, memes aside, and the remix is probably worse than the original. It wouldn't even be considered for anything if it wasn't part of Space Jam, honestly, and it'll be pretty disappointing if it starts making better soundtracks take hits because people like to be funny. That hasn't happened yet in VGMusic, but you never know.

Normally I say no cap because if the soundtrack is good it deserves a spot. But I seriously think some people blindly supported OSTs without looking at the songs actually listed. I'm confident that I could have nominated a Final Fantasy soundtrack with the worst songs in the game and it would have gotten enough support to make the contest. With that said I think both the FF and Castlevania lists were acceptable.

Also, the people that supported Touhou will be the only people that vote for Touhou. Right...right?

Space Jam (superior remix) only goes up once. And it's against Touhou.

I'll have to hear what Bastion has to offer that round, but...unless it's got something good, yeah, why not? Barkley's Space Jam remix is really charming and musical elitism is most definitely the stupidest thing in the universe, including political debates and Wang arguments. If the remix is better than the competition, it's better and deserves to advance.

Who cares about musical elitism. It just isn't good. It's repetitive and goes on far longer than it should. I honestly don't like it, and it probably wins due to joke votes! Not a good combination!

It's also kind of dumb that you put what you think is the best song on the OST in Round 1, but that's a different debate.

Literally salty pre-match about facing a bottom heavy entry

If Bastion has what it takes it will either beat Space Jam or rebound in the losers bracket. If not, that's life! Sometimes the world isn't out to get you kamikaze. People legitimately enjoy fun songs, weird though it may sound!

Pointing out something dumb is being salty? The main goal of this contest is defeated when people 'stack' their entries by putting the best songs at the bottom. You just end up causing weird results while proceeding to watch your entrant get slammed in the later rounds. I said it in the discussion topic, too.

And to be quite frank, I really am not going to listen to someone who contradicts himself every time he posts lecture me on anything. Those who live in glass houses shouldn't say stupid s***.

You should know that B8's VGM community doesn't take kindly to joke votes. Also, just because the song in question is a "real" song (I hate using that word but regardless) doesn't mean that it can only receive joke votes in a VGM setting. I believe if it wins it'll be legit.

Touhou songs are fun in general, some horrendous VGMC5 selections aside. Maybe it's because they gain a lot from being associated to fun games (though not really a context) or something!

But seriously, KP's whining is just sorry. Out of my eight noms only three made it in, and one of them was more of an 'obligatory' nom even though I enjoy Chrono Cross. Worse, both of my pet noms got stuck facing really strong entrants (and one of them is using a song I have 0 confidence in), with one of the opponents potentially loaded with the strongest Round 1 song in the whole bracket, and I'm not crying about it! This contest is too much fun to spoil by crying about your favorites going home early - there's so much quality that, if they turn out to be weak, you can always find something else to cheer for.

Edit: Come to think of it, wasn't KP one of those people whining about Deus Ex not winning by enough against Rock Band a couple contests back? If so that explains everything.

Your reasoning is ridiculous, which is why I ignored it. If a person liked an OST enough to nominate it it's probably because he thinks all of his selections are classics. Even when you factor 'DJing' in, what I saw in the two topics we had was people bending with regards to the songs they cared less about but sticking to their guns when suggestions were made to replace their favorite tracks. If the soundtrack is good enough to qualify for Best OST, *all* the tracks can make an argument for being in any round (or almost any round) and their placement is irrelevant. This doesn't apply for most soundtracks, but carefully arranging the tracks for a decent progression was your job when it came to supporting/nominating the OST. If you're having second thoughts now, tough luck. You should have settled on a selection you could trust to do well against any opposition before the lock.

This is absolutely false, and if you took 2 seconds to reason it out, you would realize it. Reverse the Chrono Cross song order. Does it have any chance in hell at winning the contest anymore? No, it doesn't. Order matters a lot in this contest, and while I can understand the reasoning behind people wanting their pet OSTs to make a spalsh, I don't like stacking. It just creates a worse contest overall.

Stick Time of the Dreamwatch on Slot 6, Magical Dreamers on the alt, Life on the first slot, etc. etc. and you still get a lineup that oculd potentially take the tournament. I could reorganize the list three or four different ways before getting repeats, too. If your soundtrack is going to get knocked out in Round 1 because it's too weak to beat real competition, the fault is on you (or on the supporters who didn't speak up to address that), not on the dumb uncultured joke-voting fad-following B8 voters. If The Landing loses to The Moon Dwelling Demon (which spoilers, is almost certainly way stronger than the Space Jam Remix) I have only myself and the FF8 supporters who roped me into adding it to blame for seeing one of my favorite soundtracks sent to the losers bracket. Not the voters, not the seeding, not the other nominators, nobody else.

I have no problem with you not liking the song, after all everyone has a unique taste in music. I just don't like that you feel it's a "joke" if it wins. Is it only because the original is a relatively popular song form the 90s mainstream?

Maybe you just really really really like Bastion and want it to win. And that's perfectly fine, but I believe (or want to anyway) that the majority of people who vote do actually base it on the merit of the song than for just joking around. If more people vote for Space Jam then it deserves it, and likewise for In Case Of Trouble. That's all!

It being a popular 'real' song is why KP is salty. If Bastion had gone up against Full Throttle's soundtrack and drawn Legacy in Round 1 he'd be equally annoyed about it because he doesn't take well to losing.

I do want to add that if you think I'm "stacking" then that is false. Although I personally love it, Space Jam's strength is completely unknown, but I feel the song has to be in so I put it first. I do have an idea on the rest of the OST's strength, and so I like the order it is in.

And I feel like it could potentially draw joke votes cause...well, just look at it. The last time we had a song like this, it was Guile's Theme, and its R1 match set the highest votal score of the entire contest. It's not guaranteed that it'll draw joke votes, but it's a distinct possibility.

Then again, for every Guile's Theme, we've had several Crazy Buses, Girls in the Tower, and so on and so forth. If a song gets 'joke votes' because of being part of a meme, it isn't just because it's funny but because it has at least some substance to it.
