DKC2 is easily the most overrated game in the original trilogy. Not nearly as good in terms of level design as it's given credit for (although the aesthetics are great). Sorry Leon.

Not true. The one level that matched DKC1/2s level of quality was 7-1, the first factory level. Brilliant level. Used the new and unique DKCR technologies and style to its advantage, non-Diddy platforming wasn't ass, beautiful graphics. Why couldn't the entire game be that good? Or at least more than just one level?

Anyways, the problem with the controls isn't just the motion controls... SMG had waggle and it was perfectly fine. It was just unfair most of the time. Back when I played it a year ago I had more concrete examples, but in general, playing with Diddy is so incredibly easier than without. That is not good design for a game.

In DKC2, I almost always used Diddy, because even though Dixie had the float, it was really weak, and Diddy ran faster. There were different situations for each character. In DKCR, if you don't have Diddy, you might as well just quit and return when you have him because it's just less fun without him. I'm not just talking about the temples either.

It's an incredibly small modification. It's like, the smallest mod known to main, it really doesn't change.

And "if a game gets mods you can't call it a good game" has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. My entire PC gaming experience is 90% devoted to game mods. And aren't you hyping up an Elder Scrolls game?

holy crap major disagree. Rolling in DKCR is awesoooome. Spamming roll jumps and completely blasthing through a level at the high speed of rolling is awesome. Then if you have Diddy & Donkey you can roll indefinitely and it's a god damn blast

The infinite roll is a reward for not being hit and having both characters. It is neither necessary for completion of any level in the game nor is always the best method of travel. The vast majority of the game's levels are built with you starting the level with DK alone, as evident in the Time Trial section of the game.

I understand kinda what you mean, foolmo. That's always been my problem with the later Metal Slugs versus the earlier ones, in that because of its new weapon system, they don't tier out the weapon pick-ups like the old days, so there could be big stretches of the game where you're forced to just rely on your starting pistol against very tough opponents. Possible, but tedious and not as fun.

But with DKCR, I never felt like I was outmatched with DK alone. Hell, sometimes I felt I was cheating the experience a bit by using the jetpack, a handicap to make up for me mistiming a jump or making a bad decision. Every single level in the game can be beat with DK and DK alone, through a combination of basic platforming game skills(memorization of the level, proper utilization of the protagonist's jump heights, his relation to the enemies through collision detection, etc). And its not a Contra/Metal Slug, "Oh so you got hit, now it takes three times as long to beat this boss without your cool weapons". Pretty much every level can be completed in three minutes or less on even an average, non-speed run playthrough. Its harder without Diddy, but kinda in the same way that its harder to beat a boss without God Mode activated.
