What is League of Legends? League of Legends is a team game very similar to the WarCraft 3 custom map DotA. There are two bases, one on either side of the map and several "lanes" between the bases along which AI controlled units spawn. An overhead view of the 5v5 map looks about like this:
There is a base in the bottom left, and a base in the top right. 3 lanes connect the two bases and every 30 seconds AI controlled "minions" spawn in each lane. Everyone who is in the game controls 1 "champion" unit and your job as a team is to push your lanes and destroy the opposing base. The lanes are protected by turrets and so you need your own minions along side you to be able to kill the turrets without getting targeted by them. 2 bases, 3 lanes, 5 players per team. What are Champions? Champions are the powerful units that you get to control. You pick 1 before the map loads and that is the champion you will use for that match. Champions start each match at level 1 their max level is 18. The important thing to consider is the stats of the champion you select will be affected by the level of your account.
What do 'account-levels' have to do with anything? When you create an account you have a level 1 account. That is called your 'Summoner Level'. You are the summoner, and the champion you select for the match is the 'summoned'. You increase your summoner level by playing matches. Every match you play will earn you XP and IP. Earning enough XP will increase your summoner level with the max level being 30. Wins are worth more XP/IP than losses, so try to win ^_^. Your summoner level also determines: (1) How many runes you can slot and (2) How many mastery points you can allot
If you are low leveled still and playing by yourself then the game will try and pair you against similarly leveled opponents, but if you are playing with higher leveled friends then it will seek higher leveled opponents. Just something to consider when you start learning how to play.
What is IP again? IP is the other kind of points you earn when you play matches. You earn both XP and IP and IP are the points that you use to purchase runes and champions. Yes, thats right, you have to "buy" the champions, but you get the points for free so its not a bad deal. (You can also spend real money on champion packs if you would rather not take the time to earn them) The point is that you get the IP for free so you should figure out which champions you are good with and spend it on those. When you buy a champion you will have it unlocked on your account forever. And if you don't buy ANY champions, you will still have access to 10 of them. Every week there are 10 "free" champions. But they are only free for the week and 10 different champions will be free the next week. And so if you are level 1 you still have 10 champions available to you and so try them out, figure out which one you might like to spend points on and then buy it.
And so IP is good for Champions and Runes. You can also spend *real money* to unlock champions but you can NOT unlock runes with real money, only IP and so runes have to be earned.
To sum up: You have an account that goes up to level 30 (this is your summoner level) You earn XP (to level up the account) and IP (to buy champions/runes) every time you play a match You have rune pages (with up to 30 slots) You have a mastery page to spec (with up to 30 points) (and you can respec as much as you want)
This is probably a bit over-kill and so if something doesnt quite make sense just ask and someone will clarify. And if you are going to start playing please post: (1) Your GameFAQs name (2) Your Summoner name (this is different than your log-in name) (3) Your preferred champions. Its just nice to know which champions people prefer to play or use the most.
And please BOLD THE INFORMATION so we will see it and update the list accordingly.
These are topic titles we 100% have used before. For future reference:
Do you wanna play? It'll be fun. Take a good look. It's the last you're going to get! If you want me to hit you less, die sooner. Time To Feast! Mundo's ABC's of success: Always Be Cleaving Who wants a piece of the champ?! C'mon, I'm not even holding the controls! Only two jokers in the deck and I got dealt you. Time to Feed! Guess what's about to hit the fan. I'm OP? Your MOM is OP!
I'm gonna see if I can get some rankies to play Taric with my Twitch and see how much we rape. Most of the time I get Sonas or Sorakas but I guess getting a kill or two every time the opponents want to CS would probably be cool too hah.

With regard to our loss against Epik Gaming I would just like to say:
I laned against Dyrus and didn't lose the lane! ^_^
We were never more than 5 CS from each other at any point during laning. Sometimes he would be up, sometimes I would be up, just as the lane fluctuated, but I never fell behind in farm. (neither did he of course).
And then when DanDinh came for that gank at 6 I survived it like a champ. I flung Dan into tower range to force him off of me and potioned myself in advance of the gank to be hard to put damage onto.
And then after the initial rush of the gank didn't work I survived a jarvan ult and exhaust on top of it. So I took 2 big ults and an exhaust and survived. I was singed mind you, but I still survived a coordinated gank from EG =P
Obviously there were things we all can work on, but I feel good about my performance against players at that level.
If you're up for editing the list, you can put me down for Gangplank and Veigar as far as current favorite champions to use. Since I've bought them and play them more than anybody else (at the moment). And am getting quite good (certainly I'm MUCH better these days than anybody on Board 8 has ever seen me play).
and no i'm still not seeing any way new yorick is overpowered. 1v1 he's pretty good but when you actually get into a teamfight, he flounders if he gets focused. in that way he's like morde but way weaker. his ultimate is decent, but it doesn't change the fact the other team gets gold.

The purpose of yorick right now is to pretty much dominate a squishy in a lane. His sustainability ghoul is absolutely insane. It is pretty much impossible to deal with him alone.I expect the sustainability ghoul to be nerfed at some point. Riot has made it very clear they dont like infinite-sustain, and right now thats what Yorick has.

i saw a brand lose first blood to a soraka mid and go "omfg she heals so much why doesnt she run out of mana"

nothing funnier than maxing out Starcall and wiping minions waves in 2 shots and then getting rylais and kiting entire enemy teams.
Soraka is right behind Singed in the "Most Fun to Obnoxiously Troll With" category.
I get Ninja Tabi because I like having early armor and MR with Yorick. With this build my deaths have yet to surpass 4. Combined with the Dodge Mastery and his Slow I can usually escape ganks and bad team fights.
Now that I know Ghouls don't apply On Hit Effects I'm going to need a 2nd big item. I'm going to keep testing attack items but so far Banshees+Tabi works as an opening pair.
As to what Red said: Yorick's E is silly good. I don't even touch Q until level 12. By just leveling up W and E you can bully any squishy. So far today i've out sustained Xin Zhao/Kayle/Nidalee. The only person I haven't been able to solo lane is Mordekaiser. Not without trying though!

If you're going to ever use Ninja Tabi because you need that token amount of armor (protip: you probably don't early game unless the enemy teamcomp is heavy heavy physical), just buy an early cloth armor and make your boots something that doesn't suck.
Or better yet just start with Doran's Shield.

If you're not gonna grab any tenacity items you should pretty much always get merc treads over tabi. And on the whole I'd say Boots of Swiftness or Boots of Mobility are "generally better" than tabi. More movement will save you more often than token dodge and armor will.
Ionian Boots usually too but that's champ dependent.

My sister was kind enough to donate her laptop to me while mine is getting fixed, but it's fairly old so there's no telling if it will run well or not.
We'll just have to see.

Anyway, I think I'm going to gun for a tank rune page to start with.
I want to branch out and eventually get away from them, but in normal games I'm the only one ready and willing to go tank, and even in B8 games that seems to be my job/the job I do best.

Banshee's is necessary to keep him from being Kited relentlessly. Cooldown Boots allows for a tad more spam early game, Atma's gives me the Armor I needed and gives me a nice Damage Boost+Crit Chance. Frozen Mallet makes sure no one escapes you ever.
I'm going to try a Swifty Boots build this game but I'm currently undefeated with the new Yorick.

there is literally no need to get gold/5 items with Yorick.
My W/E can wipe minions quite quickly. No one can stop me from farming. If they try they get bullied out of lane and get underleveled. And if Yorick hits 6 before you do...Exhuast/Ult/Slow/GG.
I do my Yorick as an Off Tank Chaser. Someone who makes sure squishies don't escape the massacre, but I ran into a straight AD Burst Yorick earlier today. He stacked so much Bonus Attack+Triforce that his minion combo was bursting people for most of their health.
Having 3 minions out at once gives Yorick 15% reduced damage and 15% attack and it really shows. I know I'm getting a tad preachy but I'm really glad with what they did to him. They took a "fun" champion and turned him into a "fun and viable champion"
