Actually looking at his stats he's pretty impressive. I mostly made that point seeing him 49th in WAR. I just think there are better candidates. Namely, Bautista, Pedroia, Granderson, Cabrera, and Ellsbury. He's having a good season but not on the level of those guys.

But as a 1B, his WAR takes a hit.

I think that Granderson, Konerko, and Bautista are the front runners. I cannot imagine giving a Red Sox player the MVP when there are 4 position players having incredible seasons on that squad alone

I haven't heard even the slightest rumblings for Konerko as MVP

maybe if the White Sox win the division he'll have a shot, but right now he's not in the discussion at all

It's sad that there isn't more talk about Konerko as MVP but I have watched most of the White Sox games, so I can easily notice his impact. For such a big market city, the White Sox don't get a lot of national exposure

even roided up McGwire couldn't win over Sosa in 1998 when he hit 70 home runs because the Cubs made the playoffs and the Cards finished 3rd

MVP is simply best player. Your value doesn't change because of the people around you, and the Yankees actually lead the Sox in wRC+ by 1. If Pedroia was on tbe Tigers would he suddenly deserve it? He's contributing the same amount.

also, there seems to be a lot of talk going on about Verlander potentially being an MVP candidate, and a few people with votes have even said they're considering it

it'll probably end up going nowhere, though!

If Verlander keeps it going at the same pace he's been going all season he could finish top 5 in voting.

too many people though are all "pitchers can't be MVPs, that's what the Cy Young is for" so his chances aren't too good.

If you're gonna go the non first place route, Bautista trumps Konerko. If you're gonna go the traditional MVP route, then Granderson and A Gon trump Bautista. Konerko has nothing really going for him.

If I had to guess right now, It'll be A Gon due to ESPN media bias.

Dennis Eckersley won as a closer in 1992, but like I said a day or two ago there hasn't been a starting pitcher that won since Clemens in 86 and Verlander has either already beaten or is on pace to beat every single major stat of Clemens MVP season.

but yeah if he can't win then I'm definitely rooting for Granderson. I don't know if any other players have won MVP that have come out of the Tiger's farm system.

Verlander is up there, but I'm through with the pitcher thing since Pedro '99.

Granderson's biggest issue is that he's been one of the worst fielders in the majors this year, although that rarely seems to have much of an effect on any awards (Gold Gloves included)

Bautista's still been a way better hitter, though, so it should be a moot point (naturally, it won't be)

Doubt we play the majority of those games due to the hurricane. We might be set up to have several straight double headers against the Yankees later this year if the Yankees are still in contention for first place.

A's pitching staff isn't really that good, their numbers are warped because of their home ballpark.

it's flexible.. it Joey Bats was only a pinch better than everyone else (instead of miles ahead), Granderson probably wins imo
