Board 8 > What's the worst game you've sunk 50+ hours into?

For me it's Suikoden III.

I clocked around 55 hours in it and never found myself enjoying it. The three-character narrative was an interesting concept, but I couldn't get invested in Hugo, Geddoe, or Chris. I held out hope for an exciting payoff, but even when the different plotlines came together...meh.

Honorable mention to Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which was decent but not worth 75 hours of my free time.

I don't know how many hours I spent on it but if it's at least 50 then MRC for the N64

My parents bought me an N64 for my 6th birthday, and MRC and Mario Kart. My brother and I played a bunch of it. Not sure if I spent 50 hours or not but since it was one of my first two video games then probably.

Final Fantasy XIII by a mile

I actually managed to block this game out of my memory when I chose FFX-2, but yeah, this is my answer.

Probably NHL games, I despise that they are essentially just roster updates every year, with a minimal increase in graphics if at all, and every generation they gut them just so they can add features they took away every year. I actually ended up breaking away from buying them every year because I just finally had enough. Now ill just buy them every 3 years because servers tend to stay up for quite some time.

The only thing that's coming to mind is Xenoblade Chronicles. I mean I didn't absolutely hate it but I didn't think it was as amazing as everyone else.

Tales of Vesperia would number 1 with a bullet if this was 35 hours instead of 50. I got so sick of that game I don't know how I finished it.

Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom is the first name that comes to mind. Can't promise I've put 50 hours into it, but definitely more than I ought to have. Along those lines, a runner-up that I've absolutely cleared the bar for is Sacred II.

Though, to be fair, there are probably much older games that I've spent long hours on because they were all I had available. Moraff's Dungeon was pretty bad, for instance, but that was also developed by some single dude in his basement, so maybe that should get a pass.

I doubt there's many games I've played more than 50 hours that I hate. But there is probably one. The only thing I can possibly think of is a common game that I've played many times throughout the years, constantly trying to give it a chance, played it when I was younger while building game collections, and something I'd play as a simultaneous multiplayer game back when games didn't always have that. That leaves a clear answer: Tetris.

Has to be an RPG, since I went through my life where I finished those religiously no matter how mediocre. I think my answer is probably Grandia. I'm pretty sure it took me just over 50 hours, and while it has an interesting idea for a battle system (that its sequels execute far better), the gameplay is poorly balanced / super-easy and the writing is incredibly childish.

Many consider it awful but I loved it and had way over 50 hours into Anthem.

And XIV 1.0 if that counts as a separate game from ARR and on.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories

You know when it gets so bad and you just get into a kind of zen for how bad it is and enjoy all the little victories you get, five star chips at a time? Yeah.

Either that or one of the WWE games. I made full 30+ CAW rosters and each of those would take a DAMN long time to make with full intro, moveset, etc. To the point where I could tell you "Kane Gloves 2 looks more like money hands if you color them right than the actual gorilla suit".

Probably one of the games I had growing up. Not having a lot of games, I think I would have played a few of these enough to hit over 50 hours.

Ill go with Wheel of Fortune on the NES. When I was real little, I loved this game and played enough to where I could solve some of the puzzles without even guessing any letters, since I had memorized the pattern.

I really cannot think of an answer... I'm so good at quitting games I hate...

Looking at Steam... oh here we go, somehow I reached 21 hours of Ticket to Ride, which I only played online with friends. I don't like Ticket to Ride at all, terrible board game.

Best I can find besides that: Phasmophobia, 7 hours, I despise that too. I guess it took 7 hours to be sure I hated it though, I was on the fence up til then.

I guess I did play a lot of Gex: Enter the Gecko as a kid though.

EDIT: OH the topic title specified 50 hours. Well dang. I bet I did 50+ hours of Gex, sure.

Yeah, there's a ton of nostalgia wrapped up in Neopets for me. I still appreciate the time I had with it and think some aspects of it are still interesting. It's just a total slog to actually play.

I went back to it in 2016, 16 years after my initial time playing it, and actually had some fun with it for a week before I suddenly flipped and couldn't stand it anymore.
