https://www.cnn.com/2020/12/12/us/brandon-bernard-alfred-bourgeois-executions/index.html

"Bernard was one of five gang members convicted in Texas of killing Stacie and Todd Bagley -- who were youth ministers -- in 1999.

Bernard, 40, was the youngest person in the United States in nearly 70 years to be executed by the federal government for a crime committed when he was a teenager. He was also the ninth of 13 federal death row inmates Barr requested the Bureau of Prisons to schedule to die before Inauguration Day -- January 20.
Kim Kardashian West and the Rev. Jesse Jackson were among the high-profile figures who made last-minute requests to President Trump to commute Bernard's sentence to life in prison.
Until Biden's swearing in, there are three more federal death row inmates pending execution. They are two Black men, Corey Johnson and Dustin Higgs, and Lisa Montgomery, who is the only woman scheduled to be executed by the US government in nearly 70 years.
With Bourgeois' execution, Trump is now tied with President Ulysses S. Grant (1873-1876) for the fourth most federal executions in a single year, according to the Death Penalty Information Center. "

Oh boy Trump is REALLY isn't handling his loss very well is he?

It's also too pricey to have them on death row at all, as opposed to life sentences in prison.

I mean, if they already have received the death sentence, I see no problem with carrying it out now. It's not like random petty criminals are being suddenly executed or something. On the other hand, why is the president even involved in the process at all?

This.
I didn't know a president could just clap his hands together and decide, "whelp, time to ramp up this capital punishment thing." I thought the convicted had legal appeals and stuff to drag the process out, it wasn't just a matter of the president deciding to get on w/ it right away.
I'm fine w/ people guilty of murders getting executed, as long as the process isn't rushed and evidence withheld / investigations into whether the trial was a sham / etc...
It's still digusting that Cameron Todd Willingham and many like him were killed despite likely being innocent.

His case was filled with scandal, because the prosecutors withheld evidence from the defense attorneys. 5 of the 9 jurors actually came out saying they they wouldn't have voted to put him on death row if they saw the evidence while the trial was going on.

Then yeah, if that's the case I'm 100% against executing a potentially innocent man, and I'd still like to know how the fuck the president/AG can just unilaterally decide to "express lane" the process.
This is disgusting, and any of the so-called "anti- big government" conservatives should be outraged.

I'm reasonably sure that Trump isn't personally involved in these executions. His only theoretical involvement is his ability to commute sentences, at which point you'd probably be making a topic about him "letting murderers off the hook"

Personally, I'm not in favor of the death penalty (excluding maybe in the case of revolutionary/terrorist leaders and mob bosses) or even life sentences. Notwithstanding that it was a pretty horrible crime, but it's not the sort of thing that really warrants a death penalty in the first place. It should have just been a prison sentence.
