azuarc 05/30/18 11:14:30 PM #1:	We started three months ago with nominations. Then there was the bracket of 128, whittling away 1 and 2 songs per night until finally we arrived at a champion. Congratulations to: Ys VIII - Sunshine Coastline Bracket - http://www.bracketmaker.com/tlist.cfm?tid=469506 Contest info - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lzzbpDP2whgvOTN2XHETfWg79IyPs01jdwIQu_L2C7k/ Discussion and results thread - https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/76584033 SC defeated Ar Nosurge's Hidra Heteromycin 21-17 in a surprisingly lightly-voted finals match. Only two people wandered in because it was the finals, and only 35 regulars voted, when we had been averaging around 40 throughout the post-retirement matches. (End of All/Amusement Park had 45.) Still, somehow we ended up with a Falcom vs Gust finals -- because what would be more appropriate on Board 8? -- and Falcom won. Along with Seize the Truth!, this marks twice that one of their tracks has won the contest. Gust will have to try to pair EXEC_SPHILIA/. with something else, but, they did win Best OST twice with Ar Tonelico II and Atelier Ayesha, which is a feat that will never be repeated if Best OST never runs again. Speaking of which, when I asked in a poll a few days ago what people were looking forward to once VGMC ended, the highest response was a subtle nudge toward Best OST. That might have been the way I wrote the poll option, and people needling me for shits and giggles, but I'm curious how interested people really are in that. Truthfully, I am not motivated to run another contest right now, but there is something to be said for pushing that message while everyone from the VGM community is here and listening. So if someone else was interested in hosting, I'd be happy to lend my support. (You still might want to give it a couple weeks before starting up.) Beyond that, not much else to say in wrap-up. Thank you all for joining me on this journey. It was an interesting contest, more volatile than my previous two years in terms of what I expected...and yet, that was to be expected since we had new faces and a ton of new songs. This year also felt very different to me because of how much of the discussion this contest took place on Discord. People I normally talk to very little I got to know far better because of that -- and because of the guessing games that we started up around the same time as the beginning of the contest. Contest was fun, lot of great songs that I never would have heard elsewhere (most of which went out in the first round... </.<), would participate again. Since I wasn't around for the Best OST contest, I don't have any real opinion on it.
