3-4 does very well, despite (or perhaps because of?) its short length. The ending and the cast are both highlights, as well as how much it flows to 3-5. Speaking of which...!

Summary:

When Phoenix travels to Hazakura Temple chasing a vision from his past, he finds himself drawn into too many old grudges. Can he save Maya yet again, along with the mysterious Iris, and settle his score with Godot at the same time? Maybe with a little help from unlikely sources...

Main Characters: Phoenix Wright, Maya Fey, Mia Fey, Pearl Fey, Miles Edgeworth, Dick Gumshoe, Franziska von Karma, Godot, The Judge's Brother, The Judge
Other Characters: Iris, Elise Deauxnim, Bikini, Laurice Deauxnim, Larry Butz, Morgan Fey, Misty Fey, Dahlia Hawthorne

My rating: 10/10. I'm a little conflicted on this one. I think this one is the weakest of the 3 finale cases in the OT just in terms of moments and overall feeling. But it's such a good way to conclude the OT, probably the best in any entertainment I know of. It knows what the fans want and delivers it in spades, while still making a really fulfilling conclusion that ties all loose ends.

As someone who likes to read in detail about localization and translation, I always really liked the "gravely roast" contradiction. Puzzles mixing visual and word puns can be a disaster to translate, but this worked so seamlessly that it felt like it was made for English.

The murder plot and cover-up is bonkers and not always in a good way, but I can generally forgive it because everything else is so good.

Playable Edgeworth on Day 1 was absolutely perfect fanservice. Bikini is a great witness because she's genuinely telling what she thinks she saw the whole time. Larry's special brand of chaos actually works really well, too.

Then the second day is chock filled with great moments between Phoenix vs. Godot and Mia vs. Dahlia. The Bitter Taste of Truth, the Super Objection, the bloody tears, all so great. "You really are the person I always thought you were" gets me choked up every time. Mia's farewell of "You were as good as any lawyer could ever hope to be" was a poignant send-off for her, especially since she's actually stayed gone.

3-5 landed the dismount for the OT, which was a monumental task.

(Which makes 4-0 all the more offensive because Phoenix is disbarred two months later, but we can tackle that one when we get to it)

Also Phoenix/Iris forever

I still have too much of a problem with the way in which the setup for this murder basically makes no sense. It feels so contrived. A lot of grief could have been saved by just... I don't know, talking to Phoenix?

Also the second trial day is comedically long, but it does earn its length so I guess it's fine.

Other than that, yeah, it's good! Playing as Edgeworth here is way better than it ever was in AAI/AAI2. Dahlia and Godot and all that stuff is great. All the other returning characters like Franziska and Larry are also great. The whole case is great and serves as a great finale to the trilogy. It's close to a 10, but its peak falls just short for me and I think it's mostly just because I wanted a better justification for why any of this even had to happen in the first place.

Absolute banger of a case. Would be perfect if Godot's plan wasn't super fucking stupid and that the case completely depends on a ridiculous notion that the body just happened to detach from the rope at the exact angle to create a 2-story fall.

Edgeworth interacting with the spiritual stuff salvages it quite a bit for me, but I do think the heavy focus on that stuff is what keeps this case from being anywhere near 2-4 quality for me. (And also prefer 1-5)

Every character in 1-4 returns in later games except Yanni Yogi and Polly, so we're obviously saying goodbye to them.

9.5/10.

Its an amazing payoff to the trilogy, but there is something about it that is lacking in punch relative to 2-4. To be honest I am closer to a 9 than a 10 on this one, but Im being generous because I do need to revisit it. Excellent case either way of course!

Not only my favorite case in the series, but my favorite part of any game, period.

Playing as Edgeworth was amazing, alnd his taking the role of the defense was comedic in the perfect way. Dahlia is a fantastic villain. Lots of good humor: "I'll have you know I'm no spoony bard!" The mystery behind and the setup of the true killer was set up really, really well. Etc. Etc.

It's peak Ace Attorney. It was faced with the impossible task of wrapping up the trilogy and the story of T&T itself, and it does both jobs spectacularly well. I could've maybe done without Larry here, though, but I get they wanted all the mains and major characters back for the grand finale.

Love Bikini too, a very underrated witness and maybe the best use of a character telling the truth while still having problems in their testimony.

Minus 0.1 for the entire case being completely preventable by both the victim and the semi-unwilling perpetrator. Moreso the victim though. Godot being a broken man who took his only opportunity for revenge at a cost he knew but couldn't process in the moment is actually pretty compelling.

One of my favorite running gags that the series never draws attention to is Edgeworth's inability to remember the proper name of anything that isn't human.

And yes, I take more issue with Misty Fey than Godot in 3-5. Godot was a broken, embittered man who'd be too proud to ever ask Phoenix for help, especially considering he already blamed him for Mia's death.

Misty staying quiet because she felt she didn't deserve to have Maya know her (one of the worst parental tropes because it gives no regard to the feelings of the child you're neglecting) is really dumb.

What's even worse to me is that assuming Misty's plan went off without a hitch, Morgan would have simply had Pearls summon Dahlia again. Even if Morgan dies Pearls very likely still keeps trying on her own. Pearls had to be made to understand the full weight of what was going on one way or another. It's hard to even give Godot a complete pass from that angle. Even with his issues he still operates very logically in most situations.

Oh, I don't absolve Godot, and he even admits himself he didn't know whether he was about to kill Misty or Pearl (which speaks to just how much he hates Dahlia). I'm just saying in the "why didn't they just talk to Phoenix" portion of it, it's pretty clear why Godot wouldn't.

Well yeah, all Godot had to do was destroy the letter from Morgan with Dahlia's picture in it, and the plan goes nowhere unless Morgan has a secret stash of pictures of her estranged daughter.
