Bit hard to justify children when we can't even afford to live without em.

This. Not to mention with the way the world is headed and the psychopaths who lead our countries just want our children to be cogs in the machine it may be in some of best interests to not even bother.

Immigration is not a "solution" because this isn't actually a problem. It's a made up problem.

This is like when they fear-monger about social security going broke - it won't if you make common sense adjustments and continue to pay into it. Same goes with population. Immigration will make up for some of these so-called shortfalls over time I guess, but it's neither a "solution" or a "problem" really.

I think that's the way to look at this.

Doesn't help we're mostly governed by people who raised kids in the 60s/70s whose perspective doesn't exist in the current day, but they insist that it can't be that different. While the house they bought for 80k is now worth 900% more in value.

That's always the way it works. Millennials talk about their money troubles they get told to stop spending so much money but when an industry sees their sales decline they blame Millennials for not spending enough money.

* America's shrinking birthrate is a problem.
* Millennials not having enough babies could crimp growth by 1-2 percentage points a year.
* At the current trajectory, that's set to weigh on the economy for the next decade or more.

It's almost like 2 people having to work full time+ (a full time job and a part time or side gig) to afford mother fucking rent and food for just themselves is not conducive to a fucking rising birth rate.

Millenials aren't to blame. Gen X isn't to blame. Gen Z won't be to blame either. Endless fucking greed on the part of the Corpos of the world is to blame.

Oh I could open up on this, but that is one of the Boomerist articles I've read in a long time. ((And I listen to NPR))
Towards the end it almost sounds like Slave Owner talk.

~Let it Burn.

The USSR is gone, there is no need for a GDP war, which we really never won, we are in debt.
And FUCK NO, I have no interest in funding Boomers retirements.
I do feel bad for those that actually need it though.
But the least of us are treated the worst, so that much checks out.

Cost arent a factor for the birthrate and never was, otherwise childbirth would scale with ones economic class. The lower it is the more children people tend to have while its the opposite on the higher end.

It's as if that's by design. You need poor people for capitalism to work. That's why they want to end sex education in schools and ban abortions and contraceptives and demonize higher education.

I forgot to post this and I dont want to be ignored by being an edit, but overturning Roe v. Wade was probably a victory for the right for this exact reason, with them knowing that poorer families and individuals may often be the ones more likely to have kids that can be churned out into low-wage slaves.

This only applies to first world countrys with greater economic wealth and opportunitys. The less a individual and or country has the more children they have. So if you want more of the latter you kind of just have to accept that it'll mean a lower birthrate in the longterm.

The opportunity costs are more tangible for the middle and upper classes.
It's much harder to say you'll be a stay at home parent when it means leaving a 100k+ job and a decrease in lifestyle, than someone making significantly less income.

If you don't want kids, don't have them. You don't need some high minded reasoning such as "the world will be horrible in the future". We are in one of the best period in human history with the least amount of suffering.

I get what you're trying to say but... I want kids, but if I had them I would just be reliving the hardships I went through. I basically won proverbial lottery to get out of being homeless(became friends with the guy I currently work for largely by happenstance). Kids won't relieve my burden, and mine would be foisted upon them. That's not a good future, I would never really never want to do that to them.

That may not faze some child-free millennials, who are using the money that would have been spent on childcare to splurge on lavish vacations, flashy boats, and other luxuries popular among DINKs

Translation: RENT.

Also in most normal countries, legislators pass laws to help pay for childcare and preschool, paid family leave, more vacations to spend time with your family, etc etc. Conservatives can't act surprised that they've killed the birth rate out of boomer spite. And they won't allow immigrants who have solved low birthrates in the past.

You know what else would help the economy?

The powers that be realizing that America is loaded with consumers who consume even when they can't afford to, and therefore if they paid everyone a livable wage it would just be that much more money being recirculated back into their coffers for goods and services.

But there I go with all that "logic" stuff again.

Why can't the working class just accept they need to lower just a few of their standards, such as shelter, health, food, etc. while continuing to pump out more workers? Frankly, it's unfair for the 0.1% who don't get to reap even more out of the prosperity that they create.

Yeah, but if you're a Boomer who doesn't want systemic change but you also don't want to think you're screwing anybody over by helping maintain the status quo it's nice to think that young people's economic woes are entirely their own fault. It lets you off the hook.
