Earlier in the day a girl I know posted pictures from Highland Park with a caption like July 4th with the fam !!!, then she updated it with text like update: mass shooting in the area!

they have a person of interest now, and uh... I probably found his Facebook and yeah, seems like hes the guy.

hes 22 and from Highland Park. Hes driving a Honda Fit which is frankly a hilarious car to drive in a police chase situation.

They finally cancelled all the firework shows down by us. Were like 45 minutes or so away, which isnt exactly next door but is close enough I was wondering why the hell all these shows were still on when our entire country recommended no mass gatherings.

Really feels like theres a mass shooting every other day in the US. Youd think this was some 3rd world country.

this is far from the most important/tragic aspect of todays event, but its been on my mind:

after the Uvalde shooting it was decided to just fully demolish that school. What do you do when the crime scene is basically the Main Street of a town? Its just forever tainted, a traumatic site for so many of the towns residents.

Ignore it is what nearly everyone who could possibly change it will do. For people who actually have morals uh no easy answer for that. Its something that takes time to process.

can confirm my brother who's fallen straight down the pit of far-right radicalization still very much dresses flamboyantly and has had many different colours of hair including the inflamous blue hair some cons think is reserved only for stereotypical "woke libs"

(he once got all excited when he saw a rando on instagram posted a pic of him on campus wearing wolf paws and a tail in line for pizza)

point being, "fashion sense" doesn't speak to politics... he also wears guy fawkes masks of course, although when my sister asked why he does he responded "what's guy fawkes?"

Dropped about 40 cents/gallon or so near me in the last couple weeks. They're going down pretty much everywhere, though not all the way back to normal. (Whatever "normal" means)

Think we might finally be getting demand destruction where people are choosing to use less gas

It's been going up for me here in California. Almost $6 now, was 5.50 a few weeks ago.

There is zero chance they DONT know that voting is stacked against Democrats, so its basically saying Yeah if we dont do something impossible during the midterms, your freedoms are gone.

Honestly at this point, Democrats need to just dump Joe and Kamala (and Pelosi, Schumer, Feinstein, etc) and start over. They have barely 2 years to do something crazy before they lose power forever, and this is not an exaggeration.

I understand that this messaging sounds annoying and tone-deaf, but there really isn't a ton that can be done by Biden. Voting does matter, but it has a considerably delayed effect; Roe v Wade's death was sealed by elections in 2014 and 2016. Voting now is setting the groundwork to unfuck things eventually. There is no realistic path to unfucking things in the short term.

(At the federal level, at least; it may be possible to fix policies in some states faster).
