Dragon Warrior Monsters for the GBC. Wasn't until years later I found it was part of a huge series.

Most recently, Uncharted 4 for Uncharted since a friend lent it to me. I like it a lot though!

My first Final Fantasy was Crystal Chronicles.

My first Sonic game was Advance. Dunno how unusual that is

rusty lake hotel from the cube escape? series. its the 7th game and also maybe a spinoff. also completely fucked up without other games context (and also maybe with)

My first Mega Man was Mega Man X Command Mission on Gamecube: the first ever turn based rpg I've ever played, so it's an unusual genre entry too.

I played through Kingdom Hearts II first, followed by 358/2 Days.

So y'know. That was fun to parse.

My first suikoden was 4

My first star ocean was Till the end of time

never happened I've always played series in release order

Before it was a big hit I got it at Walmart lol

Final Fantasy easily.

Kingdom Hearts got me interested in it, but I started with DoC (thinking it was FF7), followed by XIII, then the DS version of IV. I made varying degrees of progress in each, but it wasn't til I played VII that I actually got hooked and proceeded to binge IV-X.

Holy shit, me too! Saw coverage of Network Transmission in an issue of GameNOW and had to play it. Ended up loving the game, but it is indeed a weird entry point.

I can't think of many examples that would be "unusual," but I suppose Jak 3 is as good of an option as any

Ape Escape: Pumped and Primed, which is absolutely nothing like the rest of the series and a game I don't even know if I've ever seen anyone else talk about.

Don't think there's many like that for me, though. Maybe Path of Radiance since it seems like a lot of FE fans got started with one of the GBA entries or Awakening, but that'd be a stretch.

My first Grand Theft Auto game was GTA London for the PS1 which is really the only remotely good answer I can think of at the moment.

All other series I can think of I either started with the first one or a popular entry.

Same here; it was also the only time I can remember my mom getting me a video game as a Christmas present that I hadn't specifically asked for. She had went to a GameStop or something and asked the employee for something similar to Pokemon. Dragon Quest is now my favorite series, so good job to my mom and the random GameStop employee!

Also, the first Castlevania I played was Circle of the Moon. Which... well, not that weird, considering I didn't own an NES, SNES, or PS1, and it was the first game on the GBA.

My first Final Fantasy was Final Fantasy Legend for the Game Boy, which isn't even really a Final Fantasy game.

And then my second, which got me into the series for real, was FFX...-2.

DW Monsters was probably my first Dragon Quest too

its probably a pretty normal entry point for Americans who are like 30 years old now since the other games werent coming out here for a while and it capitalized on the Pokmon craze

If Dragon Warrior Monsters is an unusual entry, I wonder what that makes me since Dragon Warrior Monsters 2 (Cobi's Journey) was my first.

X-2 was my first Final Fantasy game.

Castlevania Lament of Innocence was my first Castlevania gamehavent touched the series since.

MGS1 is actually my first one, but I didnt really like it and didnt get very far in it originally

then a decade or so later I picked up MGS4 for some reason and loved it. since then V is the only other one Ive played other than a few hours of Peace Walker

Strange Journey was my first SMT.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker was my first DQ.

Tierkreis is the only Suikoden I've played.

Annie is the only Atelier I've played.

(I started a lot of series with their DS entry it seems)

Also I first played Xenoblade on 3DS and still loved it.

my first Sonic game was Sonic Heroes, unless you count the literally one level of the original I had played on Genesis

my first Kirby game was Kirby Tilt n Tumble

Not sure how unusual it is since the first game didn't come out on PS3 until way later, but I started with Mass Effect 2.

Also while it wasn't strictly the first one I played, Twilight Princess was the first Zelda game I liked enough to play more than a couple hours and actually finish.

MM8 and FF7 are also my first MM/FF, but I don't think it's that unusual cuz this is during the generation gap between cartridge and cd. PSX is many people first console, after all.

Other titles mentioned here; MGS3 is my first MGS, Suikoden 2 is my first Suikoden, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow is my first Castlevania.

Prob those that you can consider unusual where there is first game on same console, but I buy 2nd/3rd one directly due to school hype / worth of mouth.

Since the topic title isn't specifying just games, the episode of DBZ that led me to start following it on Toonami was the filler episode right before the Cell Games where Mercenary Tao has Goku try to solve chain puzzles. That was my intro to DBZ and also anime in general beyond the Saturday morning KidsWB/FoxKids shows.

Also, same as everyone else with Dragon Warrior Monsters. My username here is my favorite monster from the game.

Yeah I dont think DWM is a weird entry point for American kids, they were specifically chasing the Pokmon audience hard

Now my first one being Dragon Quest 4 on NES might count, that had a fairly low run very late into NES life and was also super expensive

I played MGS2, Sonic 2 and RE2 before their respective prequels

I'm sure there's others but I can't think of any right now
