All of this seems a bit pointless if they're still gonna allow them to release games on other platforms. Not sure what MS and Sony are playing at.

Don't like this arms race that's developping.

They published mobile game 'Crimson: Steam Pirates' in 2011, that's the only non-Halo/Destiny thing in that timeframe.

This is almost certainly spite on Sony's part. Microsoft bought Sony's old mascot, so Sony bought the studio behind Microsoft's mascot. Sony are going to be pretty embarrassed when they find out they don't own Halo now, like when Microsoft bought Rare and thought they owned Donkey Kong because of it.

Its kinda funny when you think that Destiny used to be published under Activision, and now Microsoft is buying out Activision and Sony is buying Bungie.

No, people in general who think they know how this shit works but don't thought those things. Neither company went through a complicated acquisition like this without figuring out what they were buying.

Now, knowing what they were ever going to do with it is an entirely different matter.

I know there's many factors at play in the pricing of the acquisition.

But it does mean Bungie just as a developer is worth three times more than what they paid for Crunchyroll which has a pretty strong subscriber count.

Dammit anime is still small fry.

Also, Microsoft knew exactly what they were getting when they bought Rare. It was merely one exec that was out-of-the-loop.

Im sure Sony knows who 343 are, unlike some people in this very topic.

Bungie fleecing another corporation for funding. Playstation basically paid to keep Destiny on Sony consoles. It's such a weird acquisition. This is basically what Bungie did to Activision. Which did not work out well for Activision.

Destiny is currently probably in its best state in a while. Still has a very large and active player base.

This deal most likely went into place since last year. Yes it's in response to MS buying Activision. These types of deals takes months to finalize and only make it into the news when they are all but certain to go through. Both Sony and MS knew about each other's planned purchases.

Bethesda was 2020 I think. I'm not sure Sony was too alarmed when that went through. They likely were too out of touch in 2020 and laughed at that purchase (they probably knew in 2019 most likely because Zenimax sent out feelers asking if anyone wants to match offers). Sony hasn't taken Gamepass seriously until recently, and now they're too late. They can't make a move on any of the other big players because MS will just match offers.
