New Fantasia and glam are all set for Endwalker. Only thing I'll be doing is farming nuts for the lion mount (should have it before release I think, at around 3200/4000 now)

Check to see if your datacenter has a hunt Discord set up and get yourself set up for pings from hunt trains.

Tried using the settings on the character select screen to download my hotbars into PS5 version and it didn't work. Weird.

There's two backup options, one for account settings and one for specific character settings. Hotbars are on the second. Only thing I can think of, though I've only used it on PS4/PC and not the new PS5 version so there could be issues.

Just to make sure, you have to open the PS4 version, upload, then open the PS5 version and download.

I think there are two seperate things to upload as well, both icons on the upper right. Not sure which is which, I just did both.

I know that the stat squish means this may not happen, but one of the things I'm looking forward to most in Endwalker is getting Paladin to 90 and soloing all the weapons off of Zurvan.

What do you guys think about Monk? I genuinely think it's one of, if not the easiest class to play in the game, but I know a lot of people bounce off positionals really hard. Once you get that muscle memory in though, it's soooooooo simple.

Though disclaimer: I am the type of player though that prefers static/rigid rotations to priority or proc-based. I hate looking at my hotbar all the time, which is why I prefer stuff like MCH over BRD or DNC.

I would like monk if I didn't have to swap between the third hit of my combo every other combo for optimization. I am not able to keep track of it.

As it stand, I'm using Rockbreaker every 6 GCDs instead of every 9 and am losing efficiency for it.

If it weren't for that ONE issue I would like it so much more.

I like positionals but Monk is too static for me.
Also I've just never really vibed with the whole bare-handed aesthetic.

I've mained MNK since I started, and the mini-rework they gave via making Greased Lightning a trait has made my experience so enjoyable.

The consistency is the nicest thing about it, for sure. Everything fits together so well, and if you flub, it's easy to recover. Once you get used to the pace of it and don't get fatigued from how many buttons you're pushing, it's wonderful.

I usually also don't like fist weapons in most games. Not sure why I don't mind it as much here. Maybe because my standard heavy weapons are relegated to tanks.

yeah, the positionals break my brain

i used to not be able to play it at all. i was sure it would be my last 80. i leveled it from 50 to 60 entirely in MSQ roulette LOL. then i gave it one last chance and somehow it finally clicked and i actually started to enjoy it.

i still have to recite my rotation out loud or i mess up though. i'm not sure i could do this in savage while also doing actual mechs lol

Funnily enough, I actually mess up Dragoon positionals more often than Monk. I think it's just because I get into the very consistent rhythm with Monk of Side Side X, Rear Rear X, Side Side X, Rear Rear X, etc. Compared to Dragoon where you kind of don't worry about it until every fourth button press, and then they're opposites, but also Chaos Thrust sometimes, and whatnot. It's easy enough if I'm actively thinking about it, but harder for me to muscle memory.

I'm excited to try out Reaper, but I have a feeling their positionals will be more like Dragoon, since it seems like you rarely use it until you're in burst mode.

it's not anywhere near as much of a loss as doing the early demolishes, but it's proper to do side rear X / rear side X a lot of the time and i can't help but feel i'm being lazy if i do rear rear / side side.

though a lot of the times i mess up the rotation and just naturally get there in which case, fair enough. but i at least try to do it properly

Hmm, I know Perfect Balance can sometimes desync your first two GCDs like that, but the resources I've seen like The Balance just advise a double Dragon Kick to keep things sync'd. It's an incredibly negligent potency loss to do it.

I know in the past there were times when we had enough skill speed to do two combos before refreshing Twin Snakes, which would throw the whole thing out of whack. But current Monk doesn't do that I'm pretty sure.

i think the double dragon kick is just because you come out of PB window without the enhanced bootshine buff, so you've gotta go back to dragon kick.

if you look at the balance rotation, then yeah, depending on which opener you do, particularly if you follow the standard one, you will go into boot-twin, aka rear->side.

and then each time you reach a PB window, you then shift into the alternative one.

so optimal play would mean being in rear->side / side->rear half the time.

but yeah, that's why i said it's not as much of a loss. i'm guessing you lose, what, like, 60 potency by doing an unbuffed, formless, bootshine compared to an formless dragon kick? so, yeah, not a big deal, but i can't help but feel i'm being lazy if i don't at least try to do it optimally.

Oh, the Nuts mount was only 3200 nuts, not 4k.

So I guess....that's it?

I don't think you've been paying a lot of attention then because they've literally added a number of things specifically because the community asked them to (including flying in ARR zones!). They also very clearly indicate what their roadmap is, answer why they can/can't do things, and respond to community concerns with some level of promptness nearly every time.

FF14 is practically the gold standard for what good community support is like, IMO.

i don't know, i'd assume it does since stats should matter, but augmented scaevaen is really easy to get so i would just do that either way.

In addition to them listening for mechanical additions, it's also pretty obvious the writing is heavily influenced by the community response at parts. This ranges from relatively small things like the Raktika tribe quests leaning extremely hard into community memes, to bigger things like how certain characters are written in ShB patch story. This is speculation, but Ishikawa was probably chosen for lead writer on Shadowbringers specifically because of how the DRK quests and the Azim Steppe were received, and the Shadowbringers reception basically cemented her position for Endwalker.

There is just so much fanservice baked into the game. Whatever your thoughts on that, they're definitely listening.

Also extremely yes, it actually matters more for BLU because their weapon doesn't have stats so the INT on gear scales harder. So get Scaeven and/or Blu gear with allied seals and also pop some grade 6 materia in your slots.

I mean tbf its not super unusual to promote people that do a good job and its not like there are much other ways to gauge how well a writer does than fan response in a multi-faceted thing like a game where it's not the only concern.

...But then, there are a lot of games where they don't do that at all and they fire the lead writer and go with someone else for the sequels and then the sequels suck SOOOOO
