Nobody reads them because they're pretty much the same for every game. You're going to find a seizure warning in the EULA of like 99% of games. That does not excuse this game not including an additional, more visible warning when it specifically has scenes that are more likely than average to induce seizures.

I feel like it has to be pointed out that the journalist never claimed there was no seizure warning in the EULA. They were talking about there being no in-game warning. If you think that people actually put stock in generic seizure warnings in EULAs for enormous games you're delusional.

oh i totally agree it should've been caught. but sometimes things slip through the cracks and this somehow is one of them. as long as they fix it quick - ideally day 1 - that's all they can do.

This shouldn't be something that slips through the cracks.

yeah the pushback on this is weird.
the initial reporting on it was a writer who legitimately has epilepsy and experienced a seizure during the game just doing a PSA about the risk. She was enjoying the game and wasnt angry at CDPR about it, she just wanted to warn people about the issue.

but if you look at the Kotaku in Action thread that Ulti definitely got his info from, theres weirdos being like the media are so mad about trans stuff that theyre making any attempt to attack the game !!!. their brains have melted so much that theyre convinced a totally reasonable warning is some kind of hit job.

But this is a game where it's supposed to make the character have a seizure. And they didn't think to check if it would ACTUALLY cause seizures?

Edit: In all seriousness, Nanis, I really think it would do you some good to take a step back and just relax on this stuff. There are a lot of people who want to take advantage of people's passions on this subject using this stuff as a tool for radicalisation. And this isn't something you can "both sides", because let's be real, it's effectively only the far right doing it. It's better to use this time to play video games, watch a TV show, study something, maybe be more positive and try to make friends instead of making enemies.
And I also know I won't change the world. Hell, I probably won't change the opinion of a single person in my entire life.
But I can't help it. There are some things that I just can't comprehend. It's not like, idk, I hate FFVIII and if someone else likes it, I can think "what a shit taste". But I would understand it. I would be ok with this.

And then there are..things. That are just beyond my understanding. It would be like saying 2+2=5. Or that up is down. Or that the sky is yellow, black is white, forward is backward. Things that don't make any sense and I just can't understand why people think they do

'hey guys let's make lights like it's a seizure.'
'okay!'

and nobody stopped to think 'hey is this accurate?' or 'hey what if somebody actually can suffer from one?'
it makes sense if you think of it as safety not having been thought of which, to be fair, it's not like cdprojekt does many games involving flashy lights. they're a weird one where yeah technically it's an AAA game but this company isn't exactly known as an AAA studio outside of one game.

As far as the testing thing goes, it's entirely possible it was tested for seizures, got okayed, and then something about it got changed later in development without any check. Stuff like that happens pretty frequently - it's how massive bugs often end up in final versions of games. You do a bugfix right before the game releases and don't realize it causes a much worse problem somewhere else.

IIRC some common seizure triggers (and conversely the things you would be looking for in QA as problematic) are things like a flash rate between 3 and 60 times a second, high contrast patterns, and lots of bright red.

I know the Game Informer writer who suffered a seizure playing Cyberpunk and wrote up the PSA to give a heads-up about where she experienced it and other areas she highlighted as potentially troublesome for others suffering from epilepsy so they would be forewarned when those parts came up mentioned that one particular instance in the game seemed almost identical to the actual device used to intentionally induce seizures for medical purposes to the point where she suspected it was either based on that device or a very spot-on coincidence.

It's not about "it's bad that there wasn't a warning" it's bad that there was such a scene to begin with.

Every game can be dangerous for people with epilepsy and they know that. But video games delevopers also know that. This part was not supposed to be in the game, warning or not

review copies were intentionally made to run worse via DRM and are before the day 1 patch.
it's the reason i've been saying that these reviews are largely worthless and going to be outdated right from day 1 and that any review you pay attention to should come after the game's release.
