He's also a huge gun nerd (his pen name is even derived from the name of a real life firearms manufacturer, SIG Sauer) and already showed some of that firearms knowledge a few times in the Kino's Journey series that he wrote previously. On top of that, he's also written an Indiana Jones-esque adventure series collectively called The Story of One Continent with a quite a bit of gun action, and then there's Gakuen Kino, "magical girl" Kino's Journey in high school with tons of gun fanservice. Jeff AKA Snoopy posted... I hate SAO so I have never watched anything after season 1. I realize Gun Gale Online kinda makes fun of SAO, but why be part of that universe? It's actually more like SAO (the in-story game) is made fun of by pretty much everyone after a certain point due to its in-universe history, and even by the SAO players themselves in the SAO Progressive series because of how exploitable the gameplay mechanics were. Sigsawa's GGO series focus mostly (entirely?) on the people who didn't go through SAO in its original form, so you're basically getting an "outsider" perspective on the incident when it gets brought up. And yeah, it's pretty much because Sigsawa liked the setting. Remember that the reason Maple became broken isn't just because of her min-maxed stats. Her skills (giant killing, hydra, devour, psychokinesis, loving sacrifice, etc.), the ridiculous ways she's acquired them (letting a starting area enemy attack her for an hour without dying or killing it, standing in a Hydra's poison breath for like half an hour constantly healing to build poison immunity, eating several animals whole including the fucking hydra, sequence-breaking a quest in an insane way, etc.) and combined them together (using the hydra's poison to make acid rain, using psychokinesis to make a giant turtle float, etc.), and the unique armor set she lucked her way into early on are also major factors in her brokenness. She's essentially breaking the game by doing insane and ridiculous things that the vast majority of normal players wouldn't have the patience, luck, creativity, or lack of sanity to even attempt. Plus, she was able to do these things before the nerfs (including the addition of piercing damage) came around to prevent any future Maples, and her one-of-a-kind armor set helped make a lot of the insanity possible. The other characters in Maple's guild went through different (but similarly insane) means to become broken in their own ways, but again, they were in ways that very few players could pull off or would ever even think to attempt. It's all just a perfect storm of insane circumstances leading to more insane circumstances, all stemming from Maple's creativity and insanity, that led to their guild being as stupidly broken as it is now. So I definitely disagree that it's "easy" for anyone to have a broken character in this game, especially to the insane degree that Maple is. Tropicalwood posted... and the admins are somehow less competent than Bethesda. In terms of game balance, definitely. But to be fair, if sequence breaking a few quests and some future content (AKA the pets) sneaking in through an "unbeatable" boss being cheesed to death is the worst a game has, that's not too bad. Still pales quite a bit in comparison to the original. It seemed to have way too many characters at first but now it's zooming in on just a few which I think is better. I know a good chunk of the story because I actually play the mobile game it's adapting, but I'm still looking forward to seeing how it's adapted and what differences (because there have been some notable ones already) there are compared to the game. If they focused more on Nanoha and the main crew and didn't do as much with the rookies, that would have been fine. Or if they went the opposite direction and focused more on building the rookies up as the next generation and started phasing Nanoha out a bit (which they ended up doing in ViVid anyways) then that would have been fine too. But it ended up in this awkward middle ground where the rookies weren't developed enough, but like you said, they still took up noticeable screentime from Nanoha and the main story. Speaking of that next generation... are you going to watch Nanoha ViVid to finish the TV series at some point? You already know some of the characters from when you watched ViVid Strike before you even knew it was a spin-off, but watching ViVid gets you more background info on them, specifically Vivio and Einhart.
