They're in character but breaking the fourth wall, and there's quite a bit of self-deprecating humor in these, especially from Nana/Tsubasa. It's just wholesome non-canon fun that doesn't affect the main series at all, and more importantly, it's more Symphogear content with the characters we know and love. Yes, these stories being tied to a gacha game does kind of suck. But it's not like they're locked behind a super difficult event that only whales can complete. In all of the gacha games I've played a decent amount (FEH, GFL, ReLIVE, MagiReco, and now XDU) I've never once felt pressured to spend money to be able to beat something story-related. Outside of the most difficult missions for big rewards (that usually don't have any story with them) and PvP stuff, I've been fine as a F2P or small spender. Oh yeah, semi spoilers i guess but the "yuri undertones" are completely thrown out of the window and fuck over that idea really fast because even though the anime is about this girl overcoming literal fucking hell and getting her revenge, they introduce a male character and suddenly she's a fucking damsel in distress, so don't go into the show with the wrong idea.
