I will say this game feels really unbalanced sometimes. The team rocket base was filled with level 25 Pokemon, the Dragon Gym was filled with late thirties to forty Pokemon

It's still going to be rock climb, but the point is that there's not a huge amount of reason to give it to you until post-game.

You don't get it until after you have all the Kanto badges. Don't worry about it for a while.

Slugma isn't. Houndour is but you need to place 4 blocks, and you can only place blocks once you've received the National Pokedex.

You can actually get a Slugma egg by giving Primo a correct code in Violet City, but still.

The reason I kept steelix over scizor is because scizor can't learn rock climb. If I had known that rock climb is a post post game thing then I could've been using a pokemon I wanted to be using this whole time

and yes, we're back to considering using Scizor. I can teach strength to Gyarados or Big Totodile

Maybe Scizor can learn Rock Smash himself

and since its no longer mandatory, I can just teach Rock Climb to Steelix and carry him around when I go exploring again

the only downside is that I won't have a Ground type anymore to counter electrics. Steelix never learned a ground type move anyways, but he could always shut down the electrics with his presence. On the other hand, having an ACTUAL viable anti Psychic type would be nice, especially since Sabrina is still active in Kanto. Gyarados and Big Toto usually handle Psychics with their bites but that's always been risky.

I have no idea whats strong or weak against Steel and Dark types so I still don't know how to utilize those

I might just have to stick with Steelix just for convenience's sake but I definitely am having the thoughts again

Back during the Red and Blue days, my little brother was super pissed off at my Mewtwo. He had his own, of course. Mewtwo was just so broken that you could only counter him with another

but anyways, he wanted more options

So he raised a Gengar and a Beedrill. I guess he didn't know, and I guess I didn't either, is that attacks have their own base strength. He just thought having Pin Missile with a High Level Beedrill would be enough. He also didn't realize Night Shade was fixed and..again, Lick was just simply weak

He also didn't realize the Poison weakness

he was fucking pissed off after I dueled him in Pokmon Stadium

Me thinking about Raising that Scizor reminded me of that, whats why I was like AN ACTUAL VIABLE Option. Theres Shit there now to make them okay lol

Psychic isn't nearly as good anymore, now that Bug and Ghost types have good moves and Steel resists it and Dark is immune to it. Dragon pretty much took the role that Psychic had, at least in Gen 4 and 5.

Obviously Red Gyarados.

In my OG Crystal playthrough I found a shiny Tentacool. In my most recent Crystal playthrough, the Odd Egg hatched into a shiny Smoochum. I didn't use the Tentacool, but the Smoochum did turn into a Jynx and became a big part of my party.

In Pokemon Ruby I managed to get a shiny Solrock, which was pretty cool.

I've legitimately found four shinies ever besides Red Gyarados - A Butterfree in ye olde Gold version, a Magnemite in Emerald, a Zubat in Fire Red, and Celibi in my VC Crystal playthrough

Using my old Red/Gold carts I did exploit a wild Ditto to force it to be shiny via trading back Red Gyarados then bred myself six shiny Eevees with it so that I could have the full team. The battery for that cart is dead though.

The shinies I can remember off the top of my head, excludiing the Red Gyarados, the dragon that Benga gives you, and the special Haxorus: Cascoon (Platinum, Eterna Forest. This was while Cheryl was with me, so I was really concerned that she would knock it out.), Sneasel (Platinum, hatched), Poliwag (Moon, SOS chaining while I was trying for a Politoed. Never found the Politoed, but at least I got a shiny), Scyther (Ultra Moon, found randomly in the bushes when I was trying to SOS chain Chanseys).

I also found a bunch through Ultra Wormholes, but those are so much more common that they hardly count.

Oh no you totally can, and then you can put them in Bank and move them up to more modern games. I made like 5 or 6 shinies that way.

It's something that's only in the Gen 7 games. In those games, a Pokemon can call for help, and the more they call for help, the higher the chance is of getting a shiny. I wasn't going for the shiny. I was waiting for Poliwag to call a Politoed, but I wasn't going to give up the shiny when it showed up. The Chansey thing is because SOS chaining Chanseys is the best way to get experience in USUM. Never found a shiny there, though.

Yep. It basically ties back to how shininess is determined by DVs in Gen 2.

It's basically the same thing that increases your odds of hatching a shiny to 1/64 when one of the parents is a shiny Ditto

Wow, I wonder if Nintendo left that glitch unaltered to promote more digital sales of those games

They didn't change anything from the VC releases except disabling Game Boy Printer support, changing trading to be done over 3DS wireless, letting you play the Pikachu minigame in Yellow without a surfing Pikachu, and giving you the GS Ball in Crystal. They might've changed Jynx's color in some of the games, but I think that one was only in the Japanese version.

They have checks in Bank, but as long as something seems legitimate, like those shinies, it won't catch them. The shinies were gotten from a glitched Ditto, but the checks don't know that you got the shiny from breeding with a glitched Ditto, so Bank lets them through. It blocks Mew, Missingno and its variants, and anything that has a move that it shouldn't. Anything else is fair game.

Received in Wonder Trades, don't know the legitimacy - Manaphy, Mothim, Vulpix, Tyranitar, Granbull, Heracross, Togekiss, Luxray

From Silver using the Ditto glitch - Sneaseal, Houndoru, Drowzee, Horsea, Dratini, Ekans, Sudowoodo

Ninetales, Hippowdon, Cacturne, and Ludicolo were all accidents while I was breeding various teams for replays.

Ive never really spent time shiny hunting, and have only ever run into two, both of which met tragic ends. One was a Mankey in Ys Friend Safari, which I didnt realize was shiny until it was on its way out over Wonder Trade. The other was an Electrode in the Aqua bass in Alpha Sapphire, and Im sure you can guess why I didnt catch that.

Would the Ditto even be considered a glitch (as in something PokeBank can check)?

From what I understand the game mistakenly forgets to revert the Ditto's original stats back to what it was as the game thinks it's already a Ditto due to it having transform in its moveset.
