But he had some incredible value as a pinch hitter and that does matter. And the Mets got very lucky with injuries in the 2019 season. Having him return for depth would be very nice as well. I do think he's a good trade piece still, but it should be for the right deal. I'm not sure if Hader qualifies. The Mets should probably focus on building a bullpen of solid relievers instead of making another trade for one elite piece. I'm probably overvaluing Smith a bunch though. He rarely throws his slider, so batters have started to learn that he's going to throwing high heat all the time. Until he can do something to keep people off balance, I think he's headed downhill. That's one of the reasons I'd like the Brewers to sell high on him, I think he's overrated and I don't trust him to mix things up.
