No other series comes even close to having that many characters and I think they kind of spoiled us for too long by giving us all of them longer than they probably should have, so now people expected them to just keep having everything even as it gets over 1000.

They warped expectations and now people are pissed they tried to dial them back.

I dont care what they do, but they have advertised this as a gotta catch me all series and provided means for maintaining the collection throughout the decades. And now thats over.

It makes sense that they get no bang for their buck to bring over so many pokemon forever, but, I can see why it bothers people that have been really invested for quite a while.

I don't know if anyone here has been keeping up with spoilers... but

There's literally nothing new or exciting that these games are adding. Post game is a 2 hour little thing and then you have the battle tower. That's It.

Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2... games that were made on the N64 had like one thousand times the amount of personality put into it with the animations.

Again. People would be a LOT less pissed if Sword and Shield had a ton of new interesting features along with great animations and graphics. Instead we get a slightly dialed up 3DS game that's removing more features than it's adding.

And this is from the biggest media franchise in the world.

But I guess we are all entitled.

I guess WE should be the ones making the games if we have a problem with it.

Inability to turn Exp Share on and off. It's forced now.

Pokemon to follow you on the overworld. (This has been a feature in several other pokemon games now and there's no excuse not to have it mandatory at this point)

The ability to travel around with all of your favorite pokemon. (Though that's a given due to Dexit)

The Elite Four. The "Championship" is just fighting all 8 gym leaders again.

Mega Evolutions and Z-Moves. Honestly these don't really bother me that much but for the people that do care about them...

Like I think part of the problem for me is that I just stopped caring since I've seen too many people seem like they just want to complain because of Dexit instead of actually keep any kind of consistency with their complaints.

The Pokemon Sword board is full of

"Fuck Megas, they make competitive too boring! Fuck Z-moves, they're pointless and make the game too easy!"
*Three hours later*
"wait megas and z-moves are gone how could gamefreak do this you just killed my family *shocked pikachu face*"

and

And what we get is just actual crap.

This is where I'm at too.

I don't care about catching 'em all. Never have. But a lot of people have been waiting a long time for a mainline Pokemon game on a mainline console, because we assumed it would make for a really expansive adventure with interesting features that just weren't feasible on handhelds.

And all of that grand potential has culminated in... giant Pokemon. If GameFreak was using all its development time on polish and presentation, it'd be one thing. But they're not. The graphics are mediocre and animations are absolutely horrendous. The excuses they've come up with are lazy at best and straight-up lies at worst.

SwSh's existence doesn't offend me and if you want to buy it, more power to you. I hope you enjoy it. But there's a lot more to the complaints than just being entitled and spoiled.

It's the same as the exp share in Sun / Moon. Not tweaked in any way from that.

Half exp to every mon and rises or decreases depending on if that poke is a higher or lower level.

EXP share bothered me at first but then I realized how much time I've wasted over the years raising one Pokemon at a time and now I don't really care since you can box stuff anywhere, anyway, so I could still do one at a time if I really wanted.

Honestly exp share doesn't really bother me either. I had it turned on in Sun / Moon. But the fact that it is now mandatory and forcing people who don't want to use it is the issue.

Removing a feature for seemingly no reason. Giving players options on how they want to play the game is a good thing.

Personally I think the towns look quite nice

The towns and character models both look great and from what I've seen of the new Pokemon they're rad as hell as well. Some of the "overworld" environmental assets look kinda dreadful but I don't care overmuch.

I don't want to be a "it's okay because Gamefreak has always done this" but...seriously, GameFreak has been this bad since Gen 3. This is just the RSE comparability issue all over again, except we know in advance.

They always slash features too, and postgame has been getting steadily worse since Gen 3 - Battle Frontier and Sevii Islands were the peak and since then they've leaned more heavily in the competitive battling and online components to carry the postgame. They scrapped their best side content, Contests and Pokeathalon, after Gen 4. They couldn't even commit to Megas for more than one gen.

Like I honestly dont get how you can be a Pokemon fan and continue to gave such high expectations for a developer that has never gave a shit about meeting them. I dunno, I've just been over this. Still buying Sword!

Well we know from previews that it's less hand-holdy and you can skip cutscenes, but we don't know just how often you'll get interrupted by story dialogue.

Between the permanent exp share and portable PC storage that's accessible almost anywhere, I think the game is more encouraging you to use a lot of Pokemon instead of only a few.

People want to shape this as "well they couldn't just keep giving us all pokemon forever"

sure, I think we all agree having 3000 pokemon was unsustainable, but that's not what is actually happening here.

This is the first game on console, where expectations are the highest, where they would be most justified in adding as much as they possibly could. If after this game they said "Listen we've reached the cap on what we can feasibly put in the game and balance it, so we'll have to do something different next gen" I don't think most people would have the problem we have now. I personally would be totally ok with a pokemon reboot.

What happened in the scenario, is we got the typical "cut features, add features no one cares about, business as usual cut some QoL changes, add others"

Then they reduced the total amount of pokemon to GBA games level. This not only means that this game will suck, but that when we get D/P remakes, we literally might get LESS pokemon than the initial game. Literally demakes.

Compare it to a game like pokemon colosseum where you had almost the EXACT same amount of pokemon, and each of those pokemon got size variables show in game, and cool custom animations, it shows that this isn't a move of practicality, it's a move of malice for it's hardcore customers. Casual fans won't be affected, but those of us who spent hundreds upon hundreds of dollars dealing with Game Freak's weird BS to keep pokemon generation after generation are the ones being f'd over.

People want to act like we're being negative, but it's not. I'm not buying the game because I'm actually holding a company accountable for shitty actions.

I'm a hardcore customer, as you put it. I have a living dex that I spent a fairly significant period of time working on.

The Nat Dex is a literal non issue for me. I do not care. My living dex would simply sit in Bank/Home regardless of whether or not Sw/Sh had a Nat Dex, because all I'll do is drop them in to get the data and then store them again.

And you're fooling yourself if you genuinely believe that if they had just waited until the next gen to do a dex cut no one would have been mad. People would lose their minds no matter when they did it, Pokemon fans love to whine.

also for my money Santa is spot on. It makes sense that this would happen at some point but
A) we're moving from handheld to console, shouldn't it be easier to do?
B) they don't seem to have put any of the time or resources they saved back into other aspects of the game
C) they've handled the whole thing kinda sketchily
D) did we have to cut back THIS far? and THAT many of the actually popular ones?
