What are the recipes for Alfyn's concocts?

Soothing seed + essence of grape heals a lot of HP for everyone in the party

Soothing seed + curious bloom heals HP and prevents status ailments

Soothing seed + essence of plum heals SP for everyone in the party

Injurious seeds target all the enemies

(basically if it says "large volume" it'll target everyone in the party, if it says "small volume" it'll only target one person)

My fault, I had it wrong. Soothing Dust was the one that helped everyone in the party, the seed only helps one person

Noxroot also cures poison, and Essence of Pomegranate fills BP

JRPGs having bad writing, cringe voice acting, and the same old stale battling system isn't inherent to the genre but octo does all this anyway with a $60 price tag. the story is also crap which is one of the huge parts for RPGs in general to have at least a decent story but octo fails there too.

I dunno. I started with Olberic and have so far completed Chapter 1 for Tressa, Cyrus, Ophilia, Primrose, and Therion.

I can't say I've found any of the boss fights particularly tough. The only party wipes I've had are when exploring higher level areas and I failed to flee.

Lmao you literally stumbled into a general for a game you don't like, having a meltdown over people pointing out that the video isn't correct on certain points & is obviously designed to be comedic. You really sure you're an "adult"?

I haven't had any wipes, so I guess I can't say it is THAT tough. As my first boss in chapter 2 perhaps that is the reason it was a bit tough.

I cant figure out an optimal party. I started with Alfyn and went counterclockwise. I want to lead off with Alfyn but I have no idea who he synergizes with. Im only like 2 hrs in.

Did anyone else initially not like a character but then after doing their story you like them more?

For example, I thought Alfyn would be boring so I didn't really want to do his chapter 2 lol. I've never really enjoyed apothecary / healer classes in videogames. But the story was actually interesting and I enjoyed mixing together shit.

Concoct soothing / purifying dust + essence of pomegranate = Alfyn is good on any team

Always good to focus on roles. Alfyn is largely a healer, so try not to pair him off too much with Ophilia, for example, who is also a healer. Make sure you have someone who can do single damage and someone who can do multi-damage. A buffer/debuffer is good, too.

But honestly, for all the Chapter 1s, as long as you're not running away from battles, you shouldn't have too much trouble no matter who you start with.

Once you start unlocking the subclasses is where you start considering specialization and covering all possible bases.

EDIT: Despite giving you only a very specific strategy for Alfyn that relies on consuming items, Tyran is right that Alfyn is good on pretty much any team. Make sure you explore with his Concoct ability and you'll discover some interesting uses for his stuff. Just remember to stay stocked.

I dont think she was actually going to do anything until the guy kidnapped her rival and contemplated selling him into slavery. The convenient fact that he stole the land they save for the confrontation. So there is a thread of motivation there.

Also dunkeys review (it doesnt matter that it was a joke or that it had no score - theres a subset of his viewers who will take it as a straight review as they have for all of the years Ive watched him) is lazy and malicious as shit. Picks the worst two stories to try to present it as the core of what the game has to offer, then for the worst part, he takes Olberic solo with bad equipment against a mob hes not meant to touch - he also lies and says its level 1 even though that is referring to the vulnerability layers. You can tell this also because it has a dagger revealed as a weakness - which means he at least picked up Primrose who can easily dispatch of it with daggers/dark magic

It comes off as a joke to someone whos played it (yes, that 30 seconds straight of Ophilia saying your excellency felt exactly like how her awful story played out in Chapter 1) but to someone who never has its 100% misleading as to what the game actually is and what it offers. And it gives the trolls a bludgeon against the game.

Dunkey said he quit playing League because he didnt enjoy it anymore - so why does he go into games like this when he clearly is going to hate them and shit on them? This plus his critics video makes him come off like a hypocrite tbh. And I say this as someone whos watched most of his videos throughout the years.

I understand this is the flavor of the week game but he never used to do that unless he either liked or anticipated the game.

This Dunkey character sounds a lot like CinemaSins and their "Everything Wrong With..." series.

Seem to want to be taken seriously for their opinions, but every time someone tries to call them out, it's always "just a joke". I'm not sure if Dunkey personally defends their work in this way, but I'm certainly seeing it in this topic.

If I'm off-base on this, feel free to correct me.

The videos are never entirely serious but how much of a joke they're meant to be depends on the video which I suppose can be an issue but in general nobody is watching Dunkie for insightful critique.

"Everything Wrong With" is literally a drunk guy at night going through a movie and writing down "sins" as he sees them and then throwing a fit when people point out how a lot of it is him being a dumbass.

I haven't watched this video yet but I can guarantee you Dunkie is intentionally facetious when he says the armor bar is the enemy's level.

I mean back when he did league videos the tone of his body of work was different. His league videos were just silly dicking around and so were his dunkviews. Ever since he stopped making League videos and especially after his game critics video though, hes existed in this kind of in between in how legit hes trying to push his reviews as. Some of them are total jokes, some of them are 100% serious. This game didnt get the lighthearted treatment his joke reviews get. It also didnt get a score... but I honestly cant tell what makes him give them out or not.

He can not like JRPGs and this game, thats fine. The fact that the negativity never let up doesnt let me give him a pass as joke reviewing it though. The tone of those is different than this.

Either way anyways, there is a circlejerky portion of his fanbase that 100% takes all of his dunkviews at face value because he stuck it to the game journalists that one time, while dunkey doesnt even stick to the consistency he criticizes others for not having.

I personally am enjoying visiting towns in this game. I usually hate towns in RPGs because they feel so lifeless. It's nice to get info from them that can give you bonsuses and to try to read between the lines to determien what needs to be done for side quests.

I'm finding exploring the towns to be one of my favorite parts. Yeah it's formulaic, go around using path actions, but you find some interesting shit and it's rewarding. Plus all the towns are nice, none of them are annoying in terms of layout except maybe Therion's starting place (poor placement of the Bar/Equip shop for me).

On H'aanit's Ch3 right now. One of the most visually appealing dungeons. Thought I'd end up hating her but I really like her story. Feel like you're really playing a hunter and not just a hunter doing random shit.

Tressa's chapter 3 has a level recommendation of 34

I mean I've finished their chapter 3s and I'm starting their 4s. Went ahead and got Alfyn in to see what happens. Field was easy, then I got to the town and I couldn't even use his path action.

Time to go dungeon crawling.

Chapter 4 enemies are fairly easy but the bosses can be a decent challenge. Some of them have party wide attacks that hit for over 1k each and inflict status ailments. Even my team of high 50s barely managed at times. Be prepared to be dealing at least 40k damage per break by the time the bosses health go red because if you dont kill them fast enough, they will annihilate your team. Or just get the four extra classes and breeze through it all.
