Maybe you didn't have time to play it with the seemingly endless number of great games that came out this year. Maybe you didn't have the system to play it yet, or it was too expensive, or too big a time investment, or you were waiting to upgrade your PC. Whatever, there must be something, so what's the biggest game in your backlog?

For me, it's FFXIV: Stormblood. I resubbed back when Stormblood hit and tried to catch up, but there's just so many MSQs... I couldn't juggle it and all the other things I wanted to try. Hopefully I'll have a chance early next year.

Inside backlog so can't be one I don't own... Hm. I guess it's the Bioshocks. I tried the first for GotM, got stuck and decided to play other stuff. Then a friend wanting to play the games made a comment of playing it alongside each other and I haven't turned reinstalled it since, under the hopes of doing that since it pushes me through the scary nature I have trouble with.

Just specifically games released this year? I guess Tales of Berseria or the FFXII port are the ones I'm most interested that I haven't bought yet. And there's still Monster Hunter Stories on 3DS I want to get to.

i have no problem with not playing a game the year it comes out. usually i get to them years later because of waiting for price drops/catching up anyway.

There's a bunch. Wolfenstein's probably #1 but it's still recent and came out the same day as Mario, so I have a really good excuse.

Other vote would be Pyre. I love Bastion so much and this game looks really cool on its own merits too. I should have been on it day 1.

yeah this is where I land in regard to Kate's point. there are conversations I want to participate and follow along with, and so there's a small section of games I want to complete before then so I'm not left out.

Odyssey and NieR are the big new ones (haven't had time for NieR and don't have a Switch). I also want to play Ys VIII, but there I'm waiting for a price drop/the translation patch

Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Between all the other big games that came out this year I played (Zelda, Stormblood, Mario, P5, Nier) and me slowly going through Witcher 3 as well, just no time to add another open world adventure to the backlog. And Xenoblade 2 is coming soon so it's even less likely.

Oh and Uncharted: Lost Legacy, which I only played for two hours before it took a backseat to other things.

i don't really value the "current conversation" as much and if i had a conversation, i'd prefer to have one after some time has passed for perspective instead of possibly getting caught up in hype and overvaluing something.

the few times i've bought something on release and proceeded to play it almost immediately, getting caught up in that immediate post-release climate hasn't done a lot to affect my experience i've found, possible exceptions for fighting games because of the online presence.

i've found that if i really do care about something i'll make time for it and release price is never a deterrent in those cases (e.g. Persona 5 this year).

Nier Automata is something I wanted to play Day 1 that I still haven't gotten around to.

Though there are bigger games in my backlog, that's just the 2017 pick (with mario odyssey coming up close).

Super Mario Odyssey since I don't have a Switch.

I've played and loved Nier and am currently working on Wolfenstein so hopefully I'll be set for GotY stuff, mostly. Haven't gotten through Horizon yet. Maybe after Wolfenstein I'll tackle it again.

I also picked up Stormblood this summer, but it's my first time playing FFXIV in any serious capacity. Only made it to level 25 or so before other games intervened.

NieR: Automata is the game I most regretfully haven't played yet. I got through a great many games, but I never made time for NieR and have only heard really good things about it.

Too many. I hardly find time for games anymore. I've barely progressed through BotW so that would be at the top of the list. Gravity Rush 2 and Pokemon Sun is unopened on my desk. I'd like to play Persona 5, Nier Automata, Ace Attorney Spirit of Justice, Uncharted Lost Legacy and probably some others I'm forgetting.
