Until there is major blowback in NC, VA, etc because voters will wrongly associate Trump with the defense of complex historical figures instead of associating him with the defense of simple contemporary evil. It's an incredibly stupid battle politically.

To be fair, the only place I've really seen genuine anger is places like Jezebel and the root, specifically in the comments. I'd say a lot of mainstream liberals are more along the lines of "uh yeah I don't think so" which is fine. Disagreement is good! Driving away anyone who is not ideologically pure is not (which I understand is not a controversial statement, but I feel like there are too many on the far left that disagree with that sentiment).

Perhaps I am generalizing too much, but I'd say there is a non insignificant portion of the democratic base where "anger" is the appropriate descriptor.

Okay, so it's an "alt-lite" rally, not an alt-right one.

They tend to be white nationalists but in a more realistic way. Cut down immigration severely, favor white immigration, national surveillance of Muslim communities, end birthright citizenship, that sort of stuff.

Unlike the Charlottesville rally white supremacists, these people generally accept that other cultures they hate already exist legally in the US and we can't just kill them all. We just need to keep them from growing and white people need to stop interracial marriage and that sort of stuff.

So it's still UGLY shit, but it's not violent by its very nature like Nazi or KKK rhetoric.

I think loud, large, organized, PEACEFUL counter-protesting is all that's warranted.

If Antifa throws the first punch here, that's wrong IMO.

The goal here is to gussy it up as a Free Speech rally to attract more moderate conservatives and see if they can work people over enough to take that leap from "I am against illegal immigration" to "I am against non-white legal immigration."

So this is an actual recruiting drive, unlike Charlottesville which was explicitly a "let's join forces against all dark people" gathering

The rally is over, almost all of the "violence" being whined about by the jerks on Twitter right now is some scuffling as police forcibly move counter-protesters aside to get the Free Speech rally-goers through safely. It doesn't look like anyone got hurt which is great.

The spin I'm seeing from alt-right sources is that it's shameful that thousands of people showed up to counter-protest the rally and that their sheer numbers may have affected the actual rally's small attendance (might not have even hit 100). "People were intimidated out of their right to free speech" essentially.
