My interest in this contest was basically non-existant. I'm a huge fan of contests normally, but I couldn't get the slightest bit excited, while just the idea of a character battle or a games contest does excite me. I made my bracket in a minute and never looked back at it. I picked 95 to the finals just to pick something I thought would be an upset. Didn't think about the rest at all.

Well, can't disagree about "want a character battle". Unless Bacon announces Character Battle X almost immediately, to be held as a Summer Contest, there will probably be more time between CBVIII and CBX than there was between CBI and CBVIII. That's ridiculous.

Another reason why "more frequent character battles" is a good thing is that fads come and go, and after the first few times we got burned, I think the winning would've eventually stopped. When L-Block won it all--and that was actually pretty funny and anyone who was mad about that has no sense of humor--we only had to wait a year to get a new champ. Draven has been reigning champ for four years now, but more importantly...think about the type of champion that could've dethroned him if we'd gotten a 2014 Contest. Remember, the other story behind 2013 was "where did Pokémon get all this nearly power?" I think it might've been X/Y hype, since the new Pokémon looked cool and we'd already confirmed that we'd be given a Bulbasaur/Charmander/Squirtle early in the game. Most of Pokémon's upsets in 2013 were beneficiaries of weak bracket placement (though I still take Pikachu over Crono as an upset pick 1v1 barring Chrono characters making it into KHIII), but there is no amount of bracket placement for Cloud to have an excuse for getting punked by a Squirtle. I blame Draven, of course; the contest had lost all sense of sanity, so why not make as many weird upsets for the statheads to try to interpret? You can put Charizard's run in the pile, too, nearly choking an all-Nintendo 3way in R2 and then proving less competent than a BOX in being unable to take down Mega Man with Zero in the poll. (Though in fairness, that match broke x-stats: Zero usually manages to hold up amazingly well to Mega, and it just didn't happen there).

So, seeing how strong Pokémon were in 2013, imagine what would happen if we hadn't acted like a bunch of whiny tools and scared Bacon away from doing contests, and we got another contest the very next year, CB10 in 2014. Because remember, February 2014 was the debut of Twitch Plays Pokémon, which was a major Internet phenomenon. There are still a few loyalists, but they're about as relevant as we are in the age of declining contests. They keep the runs going, but the traffic isn't there. I doubt any of their signature Pokémon would be able to outperform their pre-2014 expectations by much now. But in 2014? Omastar is probably the favorite to win the contest, because it's "LORD HELIX PraiseIt". Even in a repeat of CBIX's ridiculous 3ways, it could probably withstand almost anything except getting stuck in the same match as Pidgeot with the third character being an elite or near-elite non-Nintendo character (or Link, because he's Link). Wouldn't that have been fun? I still kind of want Omastar to be a joke entrant in the next character battle, but TPP hasn't had the same draw since its debut year, and that was three years ago. And we haven't had any Character Battles in that time.

I regret 2005 > 2003, 'cause there was no chance for that to happen and I didn't change my bracket on time. Other than that, I'm proud of my upset picks, there were some really disputed matches that could've ended in one side or another.

Just fyi I was being genuine when I said tough break. Not paying too much to the contest points system I didn't realise how far down it would have knocked you. Hence, tough break.
