There's a thread on Other Feds where people are digging up posts on newsgroups from the '90s to see how smarks were then.
As someone who was actually on those newsgroups at the time, I just posted some of my contributions to them.
I think I've shared these with this topic before, but here's 18-year-old me in 1999's thoughts on wrestling. Not much different than the current me except the old me thinks he's much funnier than he really is:

According to his wiki page it looks like he keeps alternating between Skip and Ryback, heel and face. I guess they're testing out what works before he stops wrestling dark matches?
Wrestling storylines are often loaded with potential, and often fall well short of that potential.
What is, in your opinion, the greatest angle in wrestling history.
It's not about which one peaked the highest or had the coolest moment. I want to know which angle, from beginning to end, was executed the most perfectly, and had the most satisfying conclusion.
I'll throw out one of the obvious ones to start: The saga of Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth.
Let's hear some more examples of sports entertainment at its absolute best.

It started inauspiciously enough, but by the time it was over Trips the megaheel who buries everyone had established two hot new stars in Batista and Randy Orton.
Along the way you have their memorable holding of all the titles, their Loss at survivor series, lead to some cool moments, including Maven v. Trips and hell the whole raw that Mvaen booked, one ofthe best Raws of that era in my opinion ( I can still remember the whole night even now).
Their utter dominance had you just wanting Trips to die and I love when that happens since usually I cant help but like the heels more. When orton FINALLY won, it was just utter bliss and like watching a train wreck their downward spiral was every bit s satisfying as Trips run at the top was frustrating.
I mean, I am hardpressed to think of an angle that got going strong, had memorable moments throughout and SINGLEHANDEDLY made its product worth watching the way Evolution era Raw was made by that angle.

I'm not sure whether I like that last one so much because it was a woman's storyline and those are never good and this managed to be good in spite of it but it's in the running for the best angle I can think of that didn't have its legs cut out from under it, didn't turn stupid, and wasn't sent rolling for so damn long you got sick of it. Most of my favorites are a victim of one of those so...
I have a feeling older stuff would do better as far as not getting their legs cut out/overdone but I can't in good faith vote those cause my PPV/product viewership pre-1996 is spotty enough that I'm not sure I got the whole gist of the feuds.

Oh also I seem to remember enjoying the Jeff Jarrett vs Sting feud in late WCW but knowing how terrible the product was then I'm not sure that was because it was good or just "better than the other crap"

My best "guilty pleasure" feud that i enjoyed for no reason has to be Sid vs. Nash in late WCW.
And I mean no reason, aside from like irredeemable Sid fanboyism.

I would say HBK/Vince was one of them, if only it had ended with the WM22 match. Unfortunately they dragged it out to that tag match with God at Backlash, and that was pretty lame.
I would however add HBK/Undertaker, taken as a whole from the WM25 build through the WM26 match and the farewell Raw the next night. Honestly the weakest part of that angle was probably the pre-WM25 build. If you recall, HBK spent almost the entire "Road to Wrestlemania" period in that nonsensical storyline where he lost all his money and had to work for JBL for some reason, and the whole Undertaker thing didn't even get started until after No Way Out.
