It comes down to whether an independent business has the right to refuse service on any grounds. The Bakery in question is run by a husband/wife pair that doesn't support gay marriage. They believe they have the right to refuse service on the grounds that it would force them to support something they don't believe in. Some members of the right also argue it's a form of forced labor because the government will be telling a business that they have to do work they don't want to take under threat of legal punishment. Obviously the counter-argument is that not discriminating is part of the contract businesses sign when they become a business. It SEEMS like a clear-cut thing, but the reason the case is ongoing is because it asks a much deeper question about the intersection of personal religious beliefs and government.
