Current Events > What's the idea behind getting offended at everything?

The internet and it's hivemind are very quick to get upset. Usually they spout their displeasure on social media and occasionally try to ruin the person's life.

What's the reasoning? Why get offended so easily? I refuse to believe it's because theyre children in adult bodies. Is there a social reason I'm missing that makes this culture make sense?

The reasoning is because it imbues you with power. An offended person MUST be right because why else would they be offended? The person doing the "offending" is automatically the bad guy, because they're (actively or passively) harming another through their words and actions. It lets you claim victim status and go on the attack at the same time, and hordes of people will line up to defend your "right" to not be offended over whatever stands in your way.

They're insecure and unhappy with themselves.

I can't imagine walking around with that much anger seemingly every day with no real reason. All these people are going to drop dead of a heart attack before 50.

Very nicely said. Puts things into perspective.

I remember a couple years back me and a friend had a huge argument. And our group of friends chose his side because he was constantly complaining and painting himself a victim (where as I played it cool and said I got nothing but love for him). I was the bad guy apparently.
