I was so excited to vote for Kerry. Was excited for democrat everything. Thought the rich were evil, wanted them to pay bazillions in taxes, etc

flash forward to now. I haven't even reach full partner yet in my group, and still pull 27k/month, give or take a few depending on my hours. that nearly doubles once I'm partner.

and I'm seeing 16k go to taxes/401k/etc each month and it kills me on the inside

401k is entirely up to you and the etc. is stuff like health insurance premiums and other things you have chosen. <__<

Less than half of that money comes out to 131k a year after saving for retirement. Seems like a decent enough incentive

i understand this does not apply to tc's situation, but what's the point of striving to make what he does if he sees less than half of that money

because he's getting great benefits and saving much of it? Christ, you'd think someone who worked hard to get there wouldn't equate their taxes the same as benefits which will give them more money in the long run.

And if we had more affordable health care and benefits the "etc." portion may not be as high.

It would be a 401k which has an annual limit $19k. So, at most, a little under $1600 per month would be going towards his 401k.

First off, OP is dumb for complaining about his 401k contributions. Like, that is literally your money and it doesnt get taxed until you withdraw it as an old man in a low bracket.

As for the people hating on OP as if hes some rich asshole, he mentioned making partner. Im not sure if this is law, consulting, or IB. But in all of those fields, you put in crazy hours and it breaks most people. Very few stay in those fields and advance to OPs level. So he did earn his position. You dont see all the work he put in to get into the right school, get the right job, work the crazy hours, etc.

I dont make nearly as much as TC. But yes, once you make well over 6 figures, it is noticeable how much your taxes eat your checks.

But as long as TC worked their ass off to get where they are, I dont see why people are hating. The ones hating could have done the same thing. But chose not to.
