He also was instructing (yes, literally instructing) his viewers to attend his late streams, even though they might not like the game he is playing then in order to the donations he so desperatly craves. He told them to come to the late streams and contribute then.

To me, this is something that should get him banned from Twitch. He's basically saying the gameplay--the thing his stream is supposed to be all about--doesn't matter; he's only streaming so that you can give him money.

He always wants his fans to tell him what to do, but gets angry if they're not the most barebones easy things.

Even if he could land a good job, how long would he last? Having to work with a guy like Phil is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. I realize he'd behave a little better than he does on stream (mostly because there's a chance that if he acted like that in real life, someone might kick his ass), but he would still be an absolute cancer at any workplace.

Same with the fans. Phil has done this every single time he's put up a poll, yet they still push for them. Why? He's just going to play what he wants, anyways.

As with a lot of his questionable actions, he does this because he keeps getting away with it. For virtual romances in video games, it's not even meant to be taken seriously, it's a tongue-in-cheek gag that is meant for fun. The developers add them to games for a little bit more immersion and fun, not to have a virtual girlfriend with any meaning.

I wonder if he acts this way towards sex and romance in other forms of media. I picture him watching Lady and the Tramp, and when he gets to the scene where the dogs are eating spaghetti and accidentally kiss, he starts moaning, "Oh my God, why? I'm married, dood," while covering his face and rocking back and forth.

I still don't think Kat has anything to do with this. I believe Phil misinterpreted something she said or misread a reaction or is simply so incredibly insecure and afraid of losing her that he won't even look at pixel women. Whatever the reason, it points to their relationship being unhealthy to the point that they should be seeking help.

I have never seen another person so desperately insecure about their real life relationship that they are afraid to pursue any kind of in-game romantic option. I will never understand the whales who keep him afloat. It's some combination of sticking it to the haters, contrarianism, and insane brand loyalty that defies logic and reason. Even with these suspensions, he's still making money (even more than usual), and these streams are likely a lot more exciting for his viewers than his usual dull gameplay. He even sees an increase in viewership. Yes, these false DMCA claims are unfair, but how pathetic is it that a suspension is a hundred times more entertaining than anything he can come up with?

I'm pretty sure he played Mario Sunshine eventually, but he hated every minute of it. That's the main advantage of viewer's choice: if he hates the game (and he hates almost every game), he can blame it on the stupid, entitled viewers.

Phil doesn't want to increase his viewership or give anyone an incentive to donate. Those things would require effort on his part, and that's just not going to happen. In his mind, his viewers have no right to expect anything from him. They're just supposed to show up, open their wallets, and not complain too much about his garbage content or else he'll ban them.

When it comes right down to it, he doesn't have the skills, personality, or passion required to be a streamer. He should have failed a long time ago, but he sacrificed his dignity to keep going, choosing to beg strangers for money almost every day of his life rather than accept the reality of his situation. When he brags about his success, it means nothing. If he stopped begging for a week, he'd go broke, because very few people enjoy his content enough to support him without being begged or manipulated or guilted into sending him money. Those people Phil outlasted during his legacy? I bet some of them could still be around if they were willing to sink to his level, but they weren't. They'd rather work a 9-5 job with their self-respect intact rather than live like Phil.

I think that will cause him to fade into obscurity to be honest. Sure his loyal fans will stick with him no matter what he does (has been proven time and again), but A LOT of people are there for the slow burn, the trainwreck. When Phil stops being "Phil" as we know him, taking himself way too serious, the waterfall of excuses when he fucks up, the anger, etc I personally would lose interest.

I am here indeed, because he is such a trainwreck, and a lot of others are too. I believe it is safe to assume that changing into a likeable person would actually hurt him more than it would help. You can't get a rise out of someone who laughs at themselves.

Ironically, and luckily, Phil is incapable of self-reflection and change causing him to stay "relevant" for the wrong reasons.

It's too late.

Despite what he thinks, most of his appeal is the drama surrounding him. If he did change, if he actually became a decent guy who tried to atone for some of his past actions, he would see an initial boost in viewers and donations. But he'd soon lose the ironic viewers and the trolls because there would be nothing for them. Without the detractor element, what's Phil going to talk about? And if his new personality means that he's not complaining about the games as much or shitting on developers or badmouthing other content creators, then his streams would be 99% dead air. Maybe a few of his whales would stick around, but most of his supporters would eventually leave--if he can't rally them against the evil detractors or manipulate them into paying his bills, then he has no control over them.

No, change would need to have started long ago. That vest picture was so out of character that I didn't initially realize it was a joke. But if he had done stuff like that years ago (imagine him sending out a picture of himself in clown makeup, saying he was getting ready for the next stream), he could've built a brand around something other than drama and maybe not turned into the sort of guy people love to hate.

If it is a joke, it's actually kind of funny, and it's the kind of self-deprecating humor that would go a long way towards making him almost likable. But it's hard to tell, and it's just as likely that he thinks this makes him look good. At any rate, that picture seems like a better reward for his viewers than the last "vestival."

Yeah, I'm also of the opinion that he has a super low sex drive or is possibly even asexual. I know he's claimed that part of the reason he made crude sex jokes when he was younger was because that's what he thought the audience wanted, which seems like a typical DSP retcon but might actually have some truth to it. I think it might have been a case of him mimicking the behavior of other people in order to come across as someone versed in sexual matters.

He wants to hype the streak while at the same time pretending he doesn't make much money from it. Funny how detractors realized the problem early on, that if he keeps the streak number on screen at all times, then a bit of simple math will show anyone how much he's making in tips. Also, he's still getting bits, still getting YouTube money, and has a ton of Twitch subscribers (most of which were obviously gifted). He's bringing in more money than usual (and should have fewer expense due to the bankruptcy) but wants everybody to continue to believe he's broke.

It cannot be overstated: he is a manipulative and unrepentent scammer.

The only viewers he doesn't have a problem with are the ones who donate big and have nothing but praise for him. Bonus points to anyone willing to donate behind the scenes. So basically he has less than ten total viewers who he would consider real fans who support him for the right reason--and he would throw any one of them under the bus in an instant if they criticized him in any way.

The vest streak reminds me so much of when WWE fans started singing along with Fandango's music. Both things happened in a weird, organic way because fans were bored with a dull, repetitive product. WWE had no idea what was going on, but they tried to cash in on it and ended up beating it into the ground. And Phil seems intent on doing the same thing. He doesn't understand it (though I'm not sure it can be understood), so he'll just keep buying more vests and be left wondering why his viewers aren't happy.

He hit the double tip goal on the night stream (thanks to whales) and revealed the red vest. He was disappointed that the "vestival" didn't go over well with a lot of his fans. Someone on KF pointed out that since the vest streak is sustained almost exclusively by a few whales, then obviously the average fan doesn't give a shit about it. I think I've said this before, but he might as well do private streams where he can model his vests for the few whales who seem to get off on seeing him in them.

If trolls and detractors affected his financial situation, it was to a minimal degree. The move across the country and his decision to put everything on credit cards are what got him to where he is now. The trolls didn't make him do those things. They didn't make him not pay his taxes, they didn't force him to buy expensive junk he didn't need, and they didn't kill the growth of his channel through laziness, entitlement, and apathy.

We never see any signs that the money is going anywhere. He buys a handful of games each month, he never upgrades his equipment, and he doesn't set aside money for taxes. That's classic scammer behavior: "I need more money! I need more money! What happened to the money you already gave me? Fuck you! You don't need to know that!"

This is the biggest thing for me. I can forgive the lying and begging and general toxicity. But if the WWE Champions thing is true--and all signs point to that; prove us wrong, Phil--then he's telling people he needs money for bills and taxes, then spending it on a mobile game. Even if it isn't true, he's still crying poor while living well beyond his means and manipulating his viewers into paying for that lifestyle. He isn't simply some foul-mouthed internet personality who plays games poorly but is otherwise harmless. He is a scammer who operates a con that just happens to technically be legal.

This is someone who has made $200 a day for the past 95+ days. That's about $20,000 in three months. How the hell do you spend $20,000 in three months? He's also spouting about having to pay taxes, but how could anyone believe him when he hasn't paid taxes in a good number of years now.

As someone on KF pointed out, his complaints about potentially losing a couple days of income (which hasn't even happened) ring pretty hollow when you consider that many people have lost weeks or months of income due to Covid.

More proof that Phil relies on a view whales: last stream had some 1000 viewers, thanks to the Twitch drama, but he ended up with "only" 116 dollars in tips.

As stressful as the suspension was for him, it gave him a temporary boost in viewership. Hey, Phil, you want to capitalize on that? I think he's bluffing. He was talking on the first stream about how he was going to stream gameplay on the later stream whether Twitch liked it or not, but he walked that back pretty quickly.
