Yes, while the government should do more to help our citizens and infrastructure, I would also argue that the American corporate environment should pay workers more across the board. Our retail landscape is littered with companies that pay below living wages so the government then has to subsidize those people and then the very same corporate entities will lobby for less government assistance. It is disgusting.

Agreed, the vast majority of people, I wonder if they can even put on pants most days. The simple fact that we have a criminal ex-president arguing his immunity in front of SCOTUS is literally absurd. As a person with a background in Philosophy and a strong sense of ethics and justice, I am appalled by what I heard coming out of the immunity claims in front of SCOTUS and what some of those conservative justices were implying. It was literally sickening.

I feel like people's driving skills have declined since covid. I WFH all the time now and I am appalled whenever I go out at how bad people drive or how slow they drive. Just the other day on a 5 minute drive downtown I almost got hit twice, once on the interstate because someone was on their phone and once downtown because people don't pay attention to anything anymore.

And the saddest part for me, I work for a flagship state university but because our parking services, which is located on campus, is owned by a public private interest, we are charged for parking.

It doesn't ban TikTok, it requires them to sell it to a US investor, which they will. And then the US will get access to all the private data instead of China which is the actual goal here.

Not to mention, I am sure a sweet dividend pay day from their investments in the stock market, because, yes, congress people should be able to profit from those corporations that they are meant to regulate...

No, it is all fear mongering, US companies sell our data all the time and/or lose it to hackers because of poor security practices. So to make an issue out of that is laughable, at best. As I already stated it is also fishy as hell that so many congress members are invested in Meta and the bill they just sent up gives Tik Tok 5 months(?) to sell before any action is taken. Its almost like, huh, wonder why they are giving them the timeframe to sell cuz that IPO is going to be a massive acquisition...makes one wonder, sure does.

No, it is jut another platform and there is no reason too. It also does not help that all the pro tik tok banning stuff I see from Congress is fear mongering and outright falsehoods. It also does not help that a bunch of congress people are invested in Meta stock and they want Tik Tok to sell? That doesn't seem fishy at all. This isn't an issue of low wages people at my shop make six figures but 95% of the people that come through take multiple hour long breaks, never get off their damn phones, and it's a miracle if they fix more than 1 truck a day. I'm not even talking hard repairs I mean like they will do a brake job which takes two hours if you're working at an average pace (HD Diesel trucks not cars) can easily be done in an hour and a half but somehow they turn it into a full day. I wish this was a small sample size but we have a high turnover rate so I've literally worked with 100+ people here in the last 6 years and only a handful of them would finish jobs in standard time/didn't take obnoxious breaks. Covid made everything ten times worse too its like everyone just gave up on trying.

People gave up on trying because they realized that none of this stuff we "work" at really matters in the grand scheme of things. The number of software apps I have written for uber lazy sales people, to make their lives even easier, who then still don't use them is asinine. I can also tell you from my personal experience with covid, it changed something in me, I no longer feel the need to rush at things that I used to deem important in work because whats the point. We toil for our bread, are paying exorbitant prices just to live and then we get sick or anything can happen to us at any point and then we have the uber wealthy who don't lift a finger or just live in fantasy land 24/7 never knowing the real struggles, telling us how to be successful, when it never actually works that way. Again, what is the point?

Sometimes "making life easier" has to mean "use the system or you're fired", sadly.

Oh no, I was part of an implementation of a new CRM from a 20+ year old database system and the number of people that dropped like flies in that process would make your head spin.

I'm in no way the person that people should go through for this. I have a moderate level of excel understanding. Still, I just build people a tab in excel that has what they want in it. Thankfully, for our database we can export a tab delimited file that they can just drag into it without much help.

The bad part is that I've only been with this place half a year and no one else thought of this. It's a nationally high ranking hospital

I work for a Carnegie 1 research level university and yea, the amount of static files we pass around because no one wants to or knows how to make implementations work is ASTOUNDING.

Dude, my dad was a systems implementation consultant for Deloitte, he knew Fortune 500 companies that had their entire financials system run on Excel spreadsheets.
