I dont think you understand the logic of my point at all, actually. Banning the content of expression is legally distinct from banning the manner of expression. Its already well-established that content of speech has more protections than the manner of speech. I should also say that politicians are not to be trusted as they have their own agendas.

I don't think this is a slippery slope in terms of censorship and banning social media, but it does show a bit of xenophobia. Perhaps it could open the door to more data and privacy rights, especially since there's AI.

The content of speech and the manner of speech are distinct, and the law does not treat them equally. Thats well-established. Goalposts firmly planted.

Im not a fan. Primarily because I don't think it's right to target an individual platform. If the problem is data being given to China, get laws to control that. If it's misinformation, likewise. If tiktok steers around these laws, then have some kind of court punish/ban them. Not the legislative.

I've never been to tiktok, but if they ban it, I'm going every day. This is a terrifying precedent that endangers freedom of speech. It is no different than banning books, music, film, etc.
