He doesn't have time to be more involved with the channel because the stuff he does do takes ages because he doesn't know how to do things like work with a computer properly and won't let other people help or "change his process". Love or hate the Screenwave people, you don't think they know enough to have tried to streamline the stuff he's involved in? You think Mike never said anything? Then with the allegations that Bootsy and Kyle Justin both got stiffed on money, I'm having a hard time feeling sorry for James.

Unless you have a partner who makes enough money for you to be stay at home mom or dad, everyone with kids works and has to feed their family. If James worked for somebody else and they saw how much time he was wasting working inefficiently, he'd have been canned by now. Not paying people for their work--especially longtime friends--is the worst. The announced Mike leaving with no fanfare, almost as an aside. Did James finally stiff him too?

I was raised in a Christian home and the smartest adults I knew were also Christian, so I was certain there must be something to it. Eventually, I decided there must be answers to all those questions I had that nobody cared to answer. I was a very angry person once I started to study religion seriously, because I felt like I'd been lied to my entire life. To this day, I have no idea how anyone could conduct serious scholarship on the Bible without becoming an atheist.

How would they do it? Would they have access to our images in iCloud?

Sorry if the question was answered, I didn't read the topic.
Anything you upload to iCloud will be scanned by machine learning and/or compared with a database of abuse material managed by the government. Any matches will be sent to a human that works for Apple, and then passed on along to law enforcement if they think the flag is correct.

There are two halves to this. First, the new technology will scan everything that gets uploaded to iCloud, but will only alert a human staff member for review if it passes a certain threshold of confidence that the material you are uploading is illegal (this part is very vague). Second, everything children send on iMessage will be scanned for sexually explicit content. Parents will be informed if it finds any, and this feature can be turned off by the parent.

Most cloud services reserve the right to scan for things like this, but when last I checked, they generally opted out of doing much of it. I'm not a lawyer so I can't say if that's because of legal issues, privacy issues, shitty technology, or customer trust.

I wasn't an adult in either decade, but based on my family and town, I do think life was better for most people back then. Money went further. Diverse small businesses existed. In person socialization was more common, and folks actually talked instead of texting each other. Politics weren't as divisive, and the bill of rights wasn't on such shaky ground. The air and water seemed cleaner. People were friendlier.

This entire topic is disingenuous. There isn't necessarily a correlation between more police and less violent crime. Our entire judicial system is horrible and feels like something from a third world country. We arrest so many people in America that over 90% never get a trial (you know, the thing where they have to prove your guilt that everyone is guaranteed to get if they want one). If you opt for a trial, you often have to wait years and will be on the hook for much more serious charges to penalize you for executing your constitutional right to a speedy trial (and some courts have a near 100% conviction rate despite a not so small rate of false convictions that are out there).

The trouble starts with the police. According to the Supreme Court, they have no obligation to protect you. They are just there to enforce whatever laws please them. And given that the average American adult unknowingly commits around three felonies per day, they can find a reason to arrest anyone they want. They can beat you, maim you, or even kill you and face little to no repercussions. Even when huge scandals break, like when officers are caught planting evidence or trying to pin unsolved crimes on black people, the officers involved just get administrative leave or have to find a job somewhere else, if anything happens at all.

Federal policing is almost worse than state or local policing. The feds are at the forefront of the battle against civil liberties, common sense, and the truth. The ever increasing power of agencies like the FBI and NSA haven't been shown to have much, if any, positive impact on serious issues like terrorism or child exploitation. And yes, there have been shocking cases of FBI agents assaulting private citizens for essentially no reason and the courts doing nothing because qualified immunity.

What kind of people are going to be drawn to a job with vast power over people, the ability to do violence to others, and no accountability? Certainly not the best. And with many departments using IQ tests to weed out potential cops that would be too smart, not the brightest either. Short of dissolving the bill of rights, we do everything possible to make policing horrible, and yet people are still framed as unreasonable lunatics when they want something better. It's insane.

Are there good officers out there? You bet! But the reforms people desperately want won't negatively impact good cops doing an honest job, so what's the problem? There is far too much circling of the wagons where the good cops try and pretend that all the officers are like them and that reforms are unfair. They aren't. The tired saying about only criminals needing to fear the police would be true if they were all good people who did an honest job and could be held to account when they didn't. But that isn't the world we live in.

I did not know this. Not gonna do it though. I'm hard pressed on money atm, don't know any lawyers, and its not like my family has money. She is taking care of a family member too so I couldn't put them in a financially stressful situation.
I know a thing or two about shitty family. It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and are getting things sorted out, but you need to understand: you don't owe your family a thing if they suck. We are conditioned both biologically and socially to try and get along with family no matter what they do. Resist this urge. Some years from now, your Mom might be in a different place and maybe you can reconnect. But people don't change without a lot of hard work, and the type of person who would toss out her own son or daughter and want them gone from her life for no real reason isn't likely to do that. It gives me strong Cluster-B Personality Disorder vibes. Your mom is showing you who she is. Please believe her for the sake of her well-being and sanity.

If by any chance your apartment falls through, you might still be able to snag a dorm room at your college. That often sucks, but it does make everything easier because you can roll your meals and housing into all of the other costs and will have less to think about. Even when you are fresh out of high school and presumably in good health, this kind of thing takes a toll that you might not see coming. Do what you need to do to take care of yourself and move on with your life, but be careful about over extension.

I hope everything works out for you!
TopicIn mature, well-adjusted people, are hobbies supposed to change every few years?
darkmaian23
07/18/21 9:30:44 PM

I was just browsing some self-help threads on Reddit, and I saw some people discussing how they felt behind the curve socially because their friends have different hobbies and judge them for the ones they've kept. In my experience, people tend to think whatever the people in their social group are doing is superior, and will look down on other less important people in their lives if they don't follow the same trends. Plenty of successful folks like professional athletes have nerdy hobbies like Pokemon or watching anime.

I think the other factor in terms of social "maturity" is whether or not you have a long-term partner or children. People with kids can't go out as much, and they like to give their childless friends a hard time because they become jealous of the free time and lack of responsibilities they used to have. This often gets framed as the childless friends supposedly being less mature when it is simply a matter of different life choices.

Maybe it's something in the water in the part of the US I'm from, but you'd be hard pressed around here to differentiate between a socially immature person and the crazy or semi-crazy folks who manage to exist without going to jail or a mental hospital. People just meander through life doing whatever and want to think their lives are more interesting and important than they actually are. Most people live boring lives, and an awful lot of the time, the well put together people are only putting on a front.

But I'm just a poster on a dying message board. What do I know?

It might be because it's early, but I'm not a hundred percent sure why you think you need to buy anything. Might be my fault too for not being clear. If you are making 2D game art, you are either doing pixel art or vector art. For vector art, you can get professional results with Inkscape. For pixel art, you can compile Aseprite from source if you need it free. If that's too much work, you can use Piskel which is a free online tool. For 3D, there is Blender. All of that is free. If you want paid, Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo are best value for the money, but you don't need either of them for game art.

If you want to make pixel art, buy Aseprite (or compile it from source if you want it free; learning how to do this if you don't know is less painful and quicker than using Gimp for literally anything). If you want a cheap photoshop alternative, buy Affinity Photo. For vector graphics, go with Inkscape and buy Affinity Designer later on if you think you need it (there is a generous 30 day trial for both Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer). If you want to do digital painting, download Krita.

There is no reason to use Gimp for anything. Just don't.

If you look around, you should be able to find a coupon or something for a trial. It was a while ago and I don't remember quite how it worked, but I was able to try before paying for a year. I think the idea for skillshare is solid, but whether or not you like it depends on the skills you are trying to learn. Some skills just don't have a lot of content, or it's just bad content. Some of the courses are recycled content from Udemy, so depending on what you pay, you can actually save some money that way. Generally, the production values tend to be lower than what you'd find on a good Youtube channel or Udemy course.

You need to try it to see if it fits your needs.
