The character on the left is Misaka Mikoto from A Certain Magical Index and A Certain Scientific Railgun (that's specifically her more slice of life spinoff). The other one is from the same series, but I can't remember her name offhand. Both shows have great character designs.

I have a latex allergy, and it is my nightmare to:
(a) run into a common item that has no reason to be made of latex but is any way for some reason.
(b) Be unable to get rid of said item myself, or somehow be forced to keep it by someone who can't be made to understand what a latex allergy is and why that's not OK.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of people I've run into who can't be made to understand: my uncle, my dad, three different physical therapists (we'll just put these powdery latex items back in the cupboard for people who won't complain to save money...), a home medical equipment specialist, and several teachers.

A rubber faucet head! I'm literally shivering at the thought. It'd be a long time and several gallons of water through the replaced non-rubber head before I'd use that sink again. x.x

Someone must have pissed in your landlady's cheerios though. Who the hell buys a $300 faucet? Why does she care so much about what the faucet looks like in your place? And how can you manage properties and not know how to return merchandise?

Also her EDS specialist did have some other things to try so he said he isn't totally out of options and treatment ideas YET. My wife is just not really wanting to continue to test medications for the rest of her life.

Did the specialist think some of these options might be strong enough to change her mind? I realize that the entire reason things like MAID exist is because sometimes things can't get better, but I've been hoping right along since you made this topic that you might encounter a treatment that might give your wife a fuller, happier life. Still keeping my fingers crossed for you man.

I've been angered by episodes before, but, until now, I've never been utterly disgusted by one.

What I found most offensive about this episode was that somehow the Aldeans were advanced enough to be a super civilization that had visited the whole galaxy and retained at least some connection to their technology after "retiring", but at the same time were too stupid to notice flaws easily discovered by a 24th century Earth vessel.

This sort of plot works when a primitive civilization has regressed completely and is being watched by a machine intelligence like Landru or Vaal, but it doesn't work here. These folks know all about technology and retained control of it, and any one of them could at any moment decide to start re-learning their lost science with the help of the planet's computer. At some point before "let's solve our issues by kidnapping people from passing ships", someone (probably several someones) would have been bothered enough by what was going on to break from the status quo and rediscover science. They are self-absorbed and pompous, not stupid.

For anyone looking into running it locally, I've experienced wait times of around an hour and a half for the generation of 4 images in parallel using CPU rendering (GPU rendering is much, much faster and has more features, but I know not all of us have great cards). My CPU is dated, so you might be able to get better render times out of it. In terms of NSFW content, all I've seen from my limited experience has been nightmare fuel made out of hands, partial arms, and weird body proportions. There is another model called Waifu diffusion that is supposed to be better at generating anime art, but I've had no luck getting that setup locally.

Just FYI for anyone interested in running it locally.

My hope is that Democrats--including Biden--have serious plans for immediate SC reform, but are waiting until after midterms to unleash them. If Democrats really aren't controlled opposition, the point past which they will never again hold the presidency ought to be a red line.

I also hold out some hope that the SC won't decide the way we think they will, simply for the sake of preserving their power.

I hope this appointment works out and that things improve for you and your wife. I'd imagine that's not very realistic at this point, but I'll keep a good thought for the two of you none the less.

Not to be a debbie downer, but there is a lot more wrong with the US healthcare system than just a lack of insurance. Quality of care has gone off a cliff since COVID: you'd be lucky to get anyone to take any unusual symptoms seriously. Or if you had insurance and an interested team of doctors, the insurance would fight against the tests, surgeries, drugs, or any durable medical equipment you might need. Even trying to get a refill of meds I already take gives me hives, because it seems like the doctors who prescribed the stuff I take is never around and the rando they ask might want to try and schedule an appointment to discuss why I need the medication (as I'm running out; also, just read the goddamn records!).

I don't know if they are still doing it, but for a while my doctor's office was employing people with no specialized knowledge of any kind to go through messages you sent to see if the doctor needed to read them.

Have any image generating AIs been released that use RAM and CPU instead of VRAM and GPU? I have a boatload of RAM but an ancient graphics card.

I lost so many brain cells reading this topic.

Oh, I see! I used to chat semi-often on a Steam with fellow who has added it to his username since we last chatted. Is it, like, rude to try and Steam chat folks with names like that?

I hope the investigation turns up nothing and that he is only as bad as you already think he is. I also hope none of this affects you too badly, and that you can continue to move on and have a happier life.

We absolutely don't know that.People keep saying to call Putin's bluff, but we have no idea whether or not it really is a bluff. How many working nukes does Putin have? Is he willing to use them? On what targets and in what situations? If there were good answers to these questions in our favor, the West would be doing more to contain Russian aggression and there would be less worry amongst countries near Ukraine.

People act like because the Cold War didn't lead to the use of nukes that nothing will. It has always been dangerous for humanity to have access to nuclear weapons, and Putin might be crazy enough to use them if he gets backed into a corner. I find this entire state of affairs worrying, and have since the beginning. The human mind isn't really geared toward thinking about threats like this.

I don't think we've actually seen Sauron on screen yet, none of the suspects line up 100% with him.

Doesn't that guy Elrond is working for basically have to be Sauron? Because the elf king sent Galadriel away and declared the war over so he could pivot their civilization to building that giant forging tower the guy wants? You know, the sort of thing that would be great for making magic rings?

But maybe I'm getting the lore messed up because it has been years and years since I read any Tolkien. I'm still not sure if the guy who is with the not-quite-Hobbits is Gandalf, Radaghast, Sauruman, or an original character. And I keep expecting one or both of the Blue Wizards to pop out of nowhere and help Galadriel.

I don't understand the negative reaction this show is getting. Long, beautiful episodes in a fantasy world. Yes please! My only real complaint is that despite the length, we don't see every group each episode. This week we were missing the not-Hobbits, and last week it was the dwarves.

Go to your nearest book store and buy a book on beginner music theory. Seriously. Online learning for music is cool and all when you're already a little knowledgeable but for beginners it's a fucking corn maze. YT vids try and appeal to the broadest audience, and a lot of essential shit is paywalled or just not organized well.

Thank you for this advice. I just grabbed a book for Kindle, and I have another sitting in my cart that is even easier in case that one fails. Hopefully this gets me back on track!

If so, might I ask your recommendation on how to learn music theory from scratch with no prior knowledge of music? I'd like to try my hand at making simple chip tunes or some simple electronic music, but everything I've tried to learn from seems to be like a review, as though they expect you to have musical knowledge from playing an instrument or taking a class even if the resource claims you don't need any of that. I want to learn the structure of music and to assemble songs in a DAW note by note---I can't and don't want to play a guitar or whatever.

I get that most people with an interest in music pick up stuff or take a class at a young age. I didn't have that opportunity. It took me ages to find a book on drawing that explained things like primitives, form, gesture, etc. instead of inviting you to "draw the owl" or look at pretty drawings while the book explains nothing. Music theory seems much worse in this regard, but just like drawing, sculpture, 3D modeling, or math, there must surely be building blocks that make everything and surely I can make progress once I've understood those.

Any advice? Thanks!
