Yeah, I might have been overstating the comparison with Bayonetta. I agree that the combat's still good enough and the game remains playable. It's the camera and the character models that show their age for the most part. I probably would've been more impressed with this game if I played it first of the two, though, that's for sure.

It's mostly in platforming or climbing sections that bother me (I last played the trilogy in 2017, before the new one came). I think the camera is mostly fine though when it's not, it's awful.

I still enjoy the trilogy today. Can still enjoy Devil May Cry too. They haven't aged perfectly, but the combat holds up just fine and that's most of it.

I really love platforming and always have, I found this game to be the absolute peak of it.

Granted, I have played less than half of the games in the contest, but I doubt anything I haven't played could dethrone it.

I do agree with the things you said about the hub and Rosalina, but I don't recall any of the Galaxy games being more open. Both were a lot less open than 64 and Sunshine. Odyssey too.

I mean, SMG2 probably beats Skyward Sword, if you want to count line that. The NES has two Mario games stronger than the strongest NES Zelda.

It's just that the strongest Zelda game on every console is stronger than the strongest Mario game on that console, except on NES.

I think the in-game excuse was just that it had accidentally burned down. Things like Cinnebar Island having an eruption was most likely there for similar reasons. IIRC there was no gym on Seaform Islands then, you could simply battle Blaine.

Pikachu was still there I believe, just outside the forest.

IIRC the Kanto legendaries were not there originally. They also put a good bit of things from gen 3 and 4 Pokmon into the games, probably mostly 3.

On top of gym leader rematches, the league has also gotten much stronger in these games upon getting the Kanto badges, which is a lot easier repeating than getting the gym leaders to face you.

Them there's things like Viridian Forest straight up not existing previously because they couldn't make room for it.

A lot of Kanto's lack of content was due to limitations when making the original GSC. It's a solid bit less empty in the remakes.

Zazi only made exact placements for round 1, but for games eliminated in the same round I used the same way of determining it, which was group placement and then score.

Rayman obviously got screwed worst by losing in round 1 there, but Ultimate also reached top 10 yet only got to round 2.

Yes, because you don't actually know that even if it looked over. Might have been some supporters of ALBW or SMG2 waiting to make a push. It didn't happen in Golden Parcel no, but those weren't the games losing in Golden Parcel. It sounded like people would be cool with all five days if rallies were likely, but they felt too sure they would not happen.

Also, it seemed pretty clear that a solid part of the regular voters did not realize it happened as several people claimed that and votes kept coming in, not looking like only joke votes. Perhaps that could have been solved partially by posting it here too, but even then.

I've begun my platinum new game+ run. Got Ellie fully upgraded in chapter 9, so now I'm just running through the sections getting to Abby's part.

The pacing is not an issue when you're not exploring things at least. Though obviously this isn't the ideal way of going through it on your first run.

Yeah, the Johto games are kinda weird in the sense that they made a lot of the cool new things exclusive instead so you had to work for them. I understand the thoughts behind it, but it probably wasn't the best idea.

Not to mention it's weird that something like Houndour is a Kanto exclusive.

The Smash league made me play a good amount of Ultimate again, trying to obtain all spirits.

This is apparently a longer process than I thought because a bunch of them needs to be summoned and many others can only be found in the shop (or if you're lucky classic mode). This means grinding SP, which isn't as fun as just battling spirits. But I'm fairly positive I have everything you can get through battles.

Yeah, when you want to switch your team around a bit and not have your eyes set on six or less from the beginning the league gets tough. I usually avoid using items and just lose a couple of times to my levels up there.

I don't think I've thrown a controller since I was like 10 years old. Games have certainly pissed me off enough to be in a rage but I think I tend to like hit the couch arm or something when it happens

Yeah, I think in addition to Cloud and the stage there are only a chocobo hat and two themes. Not a single FF spirit, and I think Cloud is only use for 2-3 spirits himself. It's a shame particularly because every other third party universe has so much stuff.
