bobbaaay 01/27/21 9:22:23 PM #9 | KainWind posted... Ah, I think the two I mentioned are the only games I've played from your list but they are pretty great. I guess you can count Dragon Warrior I and II since you mention the franchise. I did play a Monster Rancher game once for like an hour, dunno which one though. That's all I got. Dragon Warrior 3 is GOAT if you're into NES/SNES era turn-based JRPGs, imo. Monster Rancher 1, 2, and 4 were all fantastic - but I don't think that same feeling could ever be captured again playing them now, since people don't own nearly as many physical cds anymore. I put 4 because I feel like 2 receives the most praise, and I don't think most people liked the changes made in 4 -- considering most of its big changes were reverted right back to feeling more like 2 immediately afterwards with the DS games. |

bobbaaay 01/20/21 1:33:02 PM #64 | I'm also not shaming them for being incels. Not having sex can suck. I was a virgin until I was 22 and could've easily become an incel had I not had shared interests with women/been active in countercultures and started growing beards as they became popular. I'm saying that I can understand a lot of things incels believe, even if I don't agree with them. But I literally can't understand the immense hatred for tattoos. |

bobbaaay 01/20/21 1:28:25 PM #62 | Beveren_Rabbit posted... Why do normies feel the feel to constantly shame incels? You already live a better life than them by having someone in your life that cares for you. Most incels ARE normies. I don't know why Redditors felt it necessary to appropriate a term that's been around for decades. If you don't like tattoos, you think women only want muscles and money, and you're not active in any counterculture -- then you're a normie. |

bobbaaay 01/19/21 11:52:40 PM #1 | Like I understand incels being sold on wanting "fertile" women and women who are "in-shape," even though I totally feel the complete opposite myself. But the tattoo thing is weird to me? Is it just boomer values and ideals? Even the great generation seemed pretty okay with tattoos -- considering most blue collar workers, navy, marines, sailors, etc. had tattoos that long ago. |

bobbaaay 01/14/21 2:32:04 PM #69 | Gafemage posted... Ohhh I see. So what youre really saying ITT is your definition of 90sest only extends to the white 90s experience. valid point - although I did point out that I meant corny nu-metally, angsty gen-x stuff. Even if hip hop culture was created as a means to establish a black American counterculture - we're not going to sit here and pretend that other countercultures weren't at least inclusive. The dumbass nu-metal stuff still had black/POC members in well known bands, like orange 9mm and Sevendust. I'd also say that even though they were more EDM'y -- nothing exemplifies that time period as well as Prodigy. There were plenty of POC who had tribal tattoos, wore Jncos and colored contacts, skateboarded, etc. Candyman also places very little narrative focus on any of the characters aside from its lead. I feel like its strongest theme was the nature of urban myth, wanting to be memorialized in history, etc. -- which is why I'm optimistic for the remake that's supposedly going to place more of its focus on the racial tensions. I also don't feel like it feels distinctly '90s? If anything I'd say Tales from the Hood does a much better job on all of those accounts. Sorry if it sounds like I'm backpedaling. |

bobbaaay 01/13/21 11:06:31 PM #59 | kinetika_ posted... Yeah, this poll is fail for the lack of these. Then you have Candyman, Wishmaster and Leprechaun. Return of the Living Dead 3, Carrie 2, and Tromeo and Juliet are essential for this topic. The only way you'd say otherwise is if you haven't seen them. Carrie 2 literally has people wearing Jncos in it. I'd also not lump Candyman as angsty, nu metalish '90s horror. Candyman is a fantastic film, and its commentary on poverty and urban myth are timeless. It doesn't have a soundtrack or an aesthetic that fits what I'm describing. Leprechaun maybe slightly, because it being Jennifer Anniston's first film -- and she's definitely very '90s. Wishmaster sliiightly I guess -- it has the aesthetic somewhat, but it feels more in line with stuff like Yuzna, Hennenlotter, and other Charles Band stuff. Like horror comedies with elaborate prosthetics and practical effects. That's more like late '80s/early '90s to me and doesn't have that angsty gen x vibe to it. |

Name the impact. People say that Scream "turned things around," but 1997-2013 was easily one of the worst times for American horror. The best stuff going on post-Scream and pre-2010's was all French -- and could barely, if at all, be attributed to Scream. Scream "gave us" garbage like I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legends, Swim Fan, etc. Even the "self referential, post-modern satire" thing didn't spawn much of anything good -- aside from Dave and Tucker vs. Evil, stuff like the Scary Movie series, Leslie Vernon, and Cabin in the Woods are all forgettable at best. Man Bites Dog and Funny Games were infinitely better at what Scream set out to do, and the former came before Scream. |

I would also include Ginger Snaps (2000) and Freddy vs. Jason (2003) -- but they both barely missed the decade. I know Mirror Mirror (1990) is a weird inclusion because it's pre-nu metal -- but you can still feel the edginess in the film, and it feels ahead of its time. |

No clue. The only things I can think up are if he has Celiacs and a lot of the "processed" foods he likely demonizes have gluten filler? Or if he has a corn or soy allergy, causing a reaction to a lot of common food additives? I've had patients at my hospital that have had corn/soy/egg/dairy/etc. allergies all at once and it looked like a mess trying to see what they could order from room service. One time there was a patient with all those allergies and the parents insisted on trying to get the kid into ketosis (I'm pretty sure it was a congenital heart center patient -- if it was a pediatric neurology patient they would've been assigned a keto dietitian); obviously I contacted the RD to talk to that family. But even though they're listed in the 6 most common food allergens -- soy and corn allergies don't come up that often, especially in tandem. That being said, the inclusion of food additives doesn't necessarily mean the food is GMO, non-organic, etc. The family probably just wants their SnOWFlAkE to eat what they perceive as healthfully in prison. Coming from having had involvement with different CSAs/farmer's markets/etc. a lot of people into food activism fall in line with libertarian politics surprisingly. Edit: This just screams food classism to me without knowing the finer details. |
