it's certainly not ALL nonsense. one thing that makes 1 feel so separate from 2 and 3 is that the original is a very straightforward movie and the sequels are way more symbolic and insinuating. i won't bring up truffaut's law again, but 2 and 3 are movies that definitely get better if you watch them several times. and even then, a lot of the stuff in it only makes sense if you know a decent amount about philosophy and religion. i know i'm coming off as a pretentious "you just didn't get it" asshole - and maybe i am one - but it's pretty frustrating to see 2 and 3 get dismissed as 100% bullshit by people who probably can't even tell the difference between jean baudrillard and ayn rand. (edit: to be perfectly clear, this isn't in response to your post. i'm talking about people in general who dismissed the movies as 100% bullshit.)
first of all, i appreciate your well-thought out post. and yeah, that's part of why why i'm planning on rewatching.

i've become more down with allegorical (as opposed to rational/logical) fiction over time. stuff that used to frustrate me because it didn't make sense i now can take a step back and let wash over me

it's part of managing expectations. on that subject, i think what turned people off was the fact that the sequel to a rational movie was irrational (or allegorical, or to use your words, "less straightforward")

not quite the same, but remember how "drive" was marketed as a "fast and furious" movie, and then people entered the theater and watched an hour of near silence followed by a guy smashing a watermelon? not saying the movie would magically become good, but people would have been less unhappy if they knew what they were getting into from the start

i'm willing to guess that the sequels do not make sense rationally but might be okay allegorically

i've got to imagine the allegory is more interesting than "hey guys, remember jean baudrillard? hey guys, remember ayn rand? hey guys, remember christianity? remember buddhism? remember semester 1 of philosophy?" i think cinema has the ability (and perhaps a mandate) to do more

a friend of mine is finishing up her phd in cognitive science, and she always makes sure to mention that she dislikes the trilogy for reminding her too much of her stoned freshman and sophomore classmates

i'm hoping she's wrong and just extra jaded from 8 years of schooling on the subject

But the blockchain doesnt record stats, mesh, physics, ability effects, or anything relevant to gameplay, it will still require a developer to implement everything. (Were also ignoring copyright/licensing).
yep. it makes more sense for more light-weight games, like TCGs, where the entire definition of the card could fit into a few lines of text. or old school wargames, where unit stats have to fit on little pieces of paper

edit: although, i will add that a blockchain is literally just a big honkin' ledger. you can record whatever you want on it, which could include battle history, stats, etc
This theoretical could likely only be used between games by the same dev, in which case they could just do it without blockchain.
why couldn't it be used across multiple devs? maybe think about potential indie crossovers. like, i dunno, i've seen shovel knight pop up in games by other devs. or as part of an indie TCG crossover framework
Just seems like so much extra, with massive potential downsides, for so little.
agreed. i think an actual good implementation would have to be oriented around more of a "tabletop simulator" than "call of duty"

the only unique capability of a blockchain implementation (compared to a server-side company-owned one) is that the record of you owning the trading card or whatever will exist as long as the blockchain is alive, even if the original game is dead

that would allow your item to be used in multiple games, etc, without each game needing to build an API and consume every other games' APIs

view it as a replacement for the steam marketplace

tbh, i think the correct implementation of NFTs for gaming would be some kind of open framework where people can make their own TCGs or whatever, rather than everyone depending on the Tabletop Simulator (or whatever) servers working properly. hopefully on one that's light on energy and therefore fees

uniqueness of digital items is actually cool.

imagine a pvp game like total war: warhammer where you can trade specific units or heroes with your friends between battles. wouldn't it be cool if your unit remembered a history of all of the battles it's been in, all the times it's died, and all of the victories it has achieved?

maybe it'd gain exp or develop unique AI preferences like an amiibo

that would mean your demon hunter wouldn't be the same as anyone else's demon hunter, and they can't just be traded without you knowing. You might even call them non-fungible

you just slap events on a blockchain and they'll stay there. all of this can be implemented on a company's server side already anyway, and i've already covered that on page 1

every complaint i've seen on this page about NFTs also applies to server-based implementations of the ideas they're afraid of. gacha games are butt, no matter the implementation, and i don't think nfts change that
