Seong Gi-hun defeats Yelena Belova in a surprisingly tight race. Yelena held the lead for quite a while before a streak of votes put Gi-hun over the top.

Gi-hun becomes the 2nd winner of the 2020s after Soul's Joe Gardner defeated Hades' Zagreus last year.

Go figure, the ultimate loser was one of the top tiered characters!

In addition, last year I had a poll to see what the predicted winners for this year would be. The following were the options:

• that super tall vampire lady (Resident Evil: Village) - She was by far the most predicted character despite not even having a name, and she did indeed make the final 4!
• Thor, Odin or another of the Norse gods from God of War: Ragnarok - got pushed back
• that adorable stray cat from Stray - got pushed back
• Luca Portorosso (Luca) - Made the bracket!
• Raya (Raya and the Last Dragon) - Made the bracket!
• Shang-Chi (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) - Made the bracket!

I agree with this. Kang was easily my favorite of the show, but I can't say I'm surprised that Gi-hun, who was by all means the face of Squid Game, ultimately took it.

Kang was a waste of time. Boring brooding character with no real impact. The only Squid Game character I never voted in this.

A very worthy Finals but glad to see Squid Game taking home the honors- I know it will always be the first thing I remember about 2021, from a media perspective.

I would most likely expect to see the 2007 contest sometime around June-July, I think that's been the best way to space them out.

Yeah thanks for running this! Always fun to reflect on the new in the year that just passed and the entire top eight was excellent this year. Close results all the way through, too.

Either 456 or Lady D was my personal favorite this year so definitely happy with the result. I didnt even vote in that match because I could decide.

Now that I've watched Hawkeye, I have to say I don't really understand the love for Yelena.
