I like it more than going to too many places.
you are going to escha zi'tah right after crawlers, it's not changing the total number of zones you go to though

you can even extend your time in zi'tah beyond how long you're staying! gobbues require some way to cleanse silence (sub dancer works, as does yoran-oran and monbereaux) but other than that they're super harmless. snapweed have to be single pulled but they're still worth killing (healer staying out of melee range helps a lot because iirc aoe paralysis). corses are annoying with HP aggro but aren't actually that threatening if you aren't dogpiled. vultures are amazing (semih snipe time), and wasps are alright (iirc they can nuke for a lot of damage which is only a problem when tanking multiple)

Make sure to resummon with each zone at first.
honestly you should resummon as soon as the cooldown is down, because you've probably levelled up 2-3 more times in that timespan early on

At 39, teleport to Crawlers' Nest. Activate the Echad Ring, and grab the first training thing off the Ground Tome without repeat. Kill stuff and keep moving forward from mob type to mob type until the room with Knight Crawlers. Be careful not to go into the room with the 90-somethings. Re-summon Trusts with each change in monster-level-range (every couple rooms). I should be 55 or 56 by the time I am done.
i go to escha zitah at 45, it's a bit tough but if your vorseals are good you can single-target kill enemies faster than stronger enemies outside of escha. having partywide mp/hp regen is a gigantic buff to have for sustainability, and i think those are relatively easy to get (participate in domain invasions)

If I see myself playing that job for actual content, I'll use the Vultures (I think it was) in Marjami Ravine for Merit Points and Job Points for a few days before doing whatever with said job
if you want to quickly get merit points you definitely want a job that's actually good in aoe, something like beastmaster or blue mage. you can get them and spend them on any job, and it's better than trying to farm them and CP at the same time if you could actively make use of some more merit points to great effect

CP comes super duper slow from most enemies btw so you want to fight the hardest enemies you can manage, preferably in escha ru'aun. that one has a very wide range of enemy levels so you can push further until you find your limit of efficient farming. the difference between escha/apex enemies and overworld rando adoulin enemies CP-wise is extremely massive to the point where it's pointless to try to get CP from them. merit points are about the same tho so weaker level 99 enemies are still ideal for that

eventually World clicked for me but i still despise stuff like having to eat meals, sharpening in general, the poor layout of most of the hubs, how slow tracking can be, and most of all, the fucking inventory management

got eater burst was fun from the first hour cuz it was just kill shit with big sword or big gun

ni no kuni was alright, if you really like miyazaki you'll probably love it. it's overall extremely simplistic and kinda slow but that's not a bad thing for everyone. i got it for like $10, played about ten hours, and got my fun's worth out of it

i've only played one god eater game but it's basically just anime monster hunter, and a lot more accessible if you find regular monster hunter too slow-paced

the anime aired when the light novel was like 90% done anyways so you got basically everything in the anime, the ending's fine. you literally just miss out on one last volume set after the climax of the plot had been resolved

if you want more, the visual novel on psp was fan translated at some point and is alright

it's set after christmas eve with the change that ryuuji collapses in the cold and develops temporary amnesia, which makes for some interesting interactions with people like ami

Teodor (most of attacks are magical, so he can end up very high dps vs certain targets. heals himself, silences, and has a bunch of unique animations n stuff too so he's cool), Ullegore (status effects, nukes, and stuns TP moves), Robel-Akbel (he spams aoe even vs singletarget, so he's great for farming weak stuff), Kuyin and Star Sibyl and Brygid (passive party buffs), Mayakov (haste samba and step spam) are the best. Particularly Teodor and any of the buffs you yourself can use. If you haven't capped haste via gear yet, Mayakov is always a good choice.

Teodor, Balamor (you get him via Rhapsodies), Shantotto 2, Yoran-Oran/Apururu, and Amchuchu/Gessho was the squad I used vs physical resistant enemies to melt them. Tons of magic bursting going on and all DPS autos are magical.

Edit: Oh yeah, Karaha-Baruha too. He's super aggressive with weaponskills and casts haste 1. Sometimes you don't need the raw healing power of Yoran-Oran/Apururu and just need some healing.

I'm dreading the Cap/Job grind, which is why I'm holding off until I find the job I like most.
Speaking as someone who way prefers soloing over party content... it's pretty damn slow. You can probably knock out an important threshold in a weekend with escha ru'aun trust mobbing (it's very easy to kill enemies in there solo, though it might take a while) if it's only 50-100JP, but man... if you want to go further and keep your sanity you definitely need a group.

Entity13 posted...
but I suspect i117 is already OP as all get-out compared to stories pre-Adoulin.
Absolutely, though your job may still require farming specific stuff to be effective regardless (bsts without a good ready recast timer hurt for damage, smns require a lot of miscellanous questing to even unlock all your important avatars). At the very least, anything that lets you use a trust and is below ilvl content will be absolutely murdered instantly.

Entity13 posted...
It amuses me that it basically is just a barely coherent story that pokes and prods you to work on the other stories while mostly just putting emphasis on the many waifus of the game.
It was pretty much a gigantic encore to get everyone to reappear. Though I didn't know everyone when the first rhapsodies came out (just up to escha zi'tah basically), by the time Reisenjima rolled around I was able to get some chills out of the final trailer that had like 30 important characters assembled back to back. Ended up having a pretty good impression of it by the end. A lot of the midparts were fluff to get everyone to reappear, but there's tangible things happening by the end.

if I wear a gearset that is 117 or higher, will level 102 monsters or the like show up as Weak compared to my gear, or will the game still read them as like an Even Match as compared to my actual level? I
It will show them as weak, but merit points gained aren't reduced iirc. I think JP is reduced but your combat ability outpaces the reduction, and zones like Escha Ru'aun and Reisenjima have a wide variety of very slightly different ilvl enemies.

Entity13 posted...
If I decide to unlock Capacity Points at 99 and progress on that, will it require its own mode, meaning I can no longer earn Limit/Merit Points, or might I be able to do both at once?
You gain both at the same time, but only from "hard" enemies, and in very small quantities. You absolutely wanna unlock it as fast as possible. Some classes REALLY want like 50-100JP. Like, beastmaster gets -5 ready recast timer on one of their early-ish nodes, and the difference between a pet nuke every 15s and 10s is crazy.

Merit points are gained VERY easily as you farm for JP, to the point where you can cap out in like 15-30m iirc. Won't be too hard to get everything you want pretty quickly.

Entity13 posted...
The thing, though, is I still don't know if I prefer XI's War over the others yet. It's just my first to get this far
Speed levelling is pretty fun on its own, so absolutely try every job out. Especially during the current event with 2-3x exp, it's so blazingly fast that the only reason you don't level multiple times per enemies is because the game is hard capped to only level you up once at a time.

I should do more of WotG so I can progress in RoV, but all in due time. Maybe I'll do that sooner than later for the sake of another little boost to experience? I'll think about it.
it was also my personal favorite storyline/expansion! i love timey wimey stuff, it was really cool to see all of the legendary war figures in their prime, and Campaign (the activity) is my favorite minigame to powercreep with absurd gear levels. a level 99 player towers above enemy commanders, who are themselves unnecessarily beefy due to the entire thing being primary an AI vs AI war with player help

plus my favorite piece of non-battle FFXI music, which will forever be my title screen music: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oQ9J-HJm5w

my main complaint with it is that navigating through all the new zones can be a gigantic headache if you get lost. jugner forest (s) is... ugh. i still don't know how a new player is supposed to get through jugner and vunkerl. i wandered around for a few days until i miraculously made it through

might be better with the higher number of teleports we have these days, though we might have had those teleports back when I played and I just didn't know

you can now park down and easily grind your way to 99 if you feel like it

mandragoras right outside of adoulin are the most common 92-99 spot, they're fairly unchallenging (though their aoe sleep is obnoxious) and you can chain kills pretty fast. you dont even really have to fight yourself, your trusts will easily take care of them

most enemies in ceizak are fine to spam, mandragoras are just super duper easy to find and kill. also there's a repeatable RoE objective for killing them

the other enemy on the beach there is also commonly used to afk level up weapon skills cuz it heals itself and does low damage. summon one healer trust and bap it for a few hours

.hack//sign was horribly paced and usually mainly looked upon fondly due to nostalgia. i rewatched it about twice in the past few years, and while it is still entertaining in a mystery sort of way, it's just boring as hell the vast majority of the time. its concept carries it most of the way, but when you try to compare it to more recent VRMMO/MMO isekai type stuff, it's just so much less entertaining

sao panders to generic interests because reki was just writing a story he wanted to read. he never really intended to be super popular from the beginning, things just kind of exploded after accel world got big and people were suddenly introduced to sao. so it feels very disorganized and amateur all around because that's what it ultimately is. compared to .hack, which was a massive franchise from development

at least .hack isn't as offensively terrible as sao drips to occasionally these days; reki can't stop writing sexual abuse into his stories, and the one time he didn't (alicization), they sprinkled some in for the anime anyways. it's actually utterly ridiculous how horrible sao villains are outside of the very first one. I do like a few arcs from sao way more than anything in .hack (mother's rosario is 10/10 fight me), but .hack in general is a lot more consistent (if predictable and boring because of it)

translation notes at ends of chapters or volumes to explain different concepts that couldn't be accurately and succinctly conveyed mid-chapter are great, but it should aim to never break the flow of the script mid-chapter

you're still arguing specifics and not spirit or experience

i never said osaka-ben was itself comparable to french

i am saying deep osaka-ben heard by an average japanese listener is a similar experience to an exaggerated fake french accent heard by an average english listener

is it a perfect translation choice? no. do perfect translation choices even exist? also no. if you have a problem with translations in general, your only recourse is learn japanese and cut out the middleman

They could have used a southern accent then instead of something literally not there.
do you know what osaka-ben and kansai-ben are

they literally just pronounce words differently and with some grammar changes, it's the same exact idea as what they did with the character here

demanding osaka-ben always be translated as a southern accent is demanding another 1-to-1 substitution that is arbitrary and does not always (or even usually) fit

Revelation34 posted...
Also what I bolded is an oxymoron since you supported what I mentioned.
what

i'm saying that since the two languages are so disparate, you have to break down the entire sentence and reconvey the meaning from the author's intent, not from mechanical word-for-word substitution

is that what you were supporting all along?

edit: looked it up and it's becauses she uses osaka-ben, so they had to transliterate a speech quirk somehow, because it sounds funky to the average japanese speaker too

sometimes phrases that work in one language do not work in another and have to be changed

translation is not a word-by-word exchange as that's fundamentally impossible when two languages don't share the same structure; it's about conveying the same experience to the viewer

stilted overly literal translations are not good translations

@Entity13 looks like the campaigns are all coming back, including the alter ego one

https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/57094

wildskeeper rieve one is an easy brainless way to make money, too, once you hit level cap. people will be rotating between 3-4 of them (fuck yumcax lol) and just participating gets you guaranteed loot, including HP Bayld, which is needed in abhorrently mass quantities to get the geomancer and rune fencer ergon weapons (which is basically their equivalent of mythic weapons, mythic being ToAU-expansion relics), so it's very easy to sell them

other loot that drops may be situationally useful too as gear swaps. it's all i115 so they're usually less good than the freebie sparks you can get upon hitting 99, but stuff like store TP rings and fast cast capes and whatnot are always good to have

WKR fights can have a bunch of people inside, and everyone can summon their own trusts. one competently geared person can solo with their trusts, so it's very low-stress. fun fact: qultada, ulmia, and joachim will aoe buff everyone in content like this and the normal song limit does not apply to trusts, so they're nice if you want to just speed things up as a low-geared player. summoner blood pact buffs work too but that requires being summoner (but aoe haste 2 hitting 50+ targets is hilarious)

you may need to start Seekers of Adoulin to access them but it's definitely worth starting that expansion early because you have to spend a currency that slowly replenishes in order to advance in it (...although i think one of the rhapsody items reduces the number you need to spend?)

the amount of money she's made already outpaces what many people make in their entire lifetimes

I like how you can't just say "he doesn't like white people" and have to throw "anti-semite" in there. That's such an older generation sentiment.
do you believe the Rothschild conspiracies are a solely white thing or a Jewish thing

because they are definitely a Jewish thing
