Depends on the genre. As a fan of shitty isekai, it's so overdone to the point where the pope not being a tyrant/human supremacist/lich is frankly a plot twist. Even in series where the protagonist overtly aligns with the church, it tends to be supporting an insider who is resisting either some diabolical plot or attempting to overcome simple inefficient bureaucracy. And often even then they're shown as a neutral peacekeeping entity, not an organization founded on benevolence

I was going to say "it wasn't THAT early" but I checked and apparently the DS, and Hunters, both came out in 2004?? Wow, time really did flow differently back then.

I think it's (late) 2004 for DS and 2006 for hunters, google's probably fucking with one of us

especially since it was so soon into the system's life. i never played it, but my DS came with a multiplayer demo for it, and it was insane

I'm struggling to think of something else that is not just impressive but technically impressive. maybe ghost trick retaining a unique and fluid visual style the whole game? but there has to be something more baffling given the hardware. was spirit tracks impressive?

Kaycees mod is where I got most of my playtime from though, where you can just keep replaying act one.

I actually reinstalled (last time I played, I made it to early act 2) to play that but then quickly discovered I sucked at the game and would have more fun just replaying the main game as far as I could manage

7, only actually 'beat' One Step From Eden (I cleared a couple of challenge difficulties) but I got far in Hades and Inscryption (act 3 started to drag real hard and had little of the appeal of act 1 despite being almost the same. both way better than act 2 tho), and I had a decent number of runs in Loop Hero

you should try Balatro (poker deckbuilder) and Against The Storm (RTS citybuilder where you have to spec into certain buildings and supply chains)

Beat the boss on second run, I like the magic system in this one. Dunno how I feel about max mana reservation abilities, though. I'm sure it'll synergize with something later on (to put it in PoE terms, maybe mana reservation efficiency), but I thought I'd get the reservation back after getting hit a few times or something. Nope just over half of my max mana gone for the rest of the run!

Feels like an improvement over the first game yet different enough gameplaywise to warrant both being worthwhile experiences. Digging's Mel's murder vibes so far
