Other thread made me realize how many good songs come out of Japan, and my view on Japanese music is just Vocaloid, Anisong, and a few bands and some songs that would very barely cut it as Idol songs, mainly Hololive and Nijisanji originals.

Kind of a running theme with a lot of your opinions, though. You have some very narrow interests. (Granted, I'm not much of a music guy myself, so...)

TIL: Rider of Black is actually a guy. I had seen some of the merch, which was literally all I knew about the character. However, today I was trying to look up something related to another servant where I didn't know the name (it was Francis Drake), but I assumed they were likely a Rider-class servant from the pirate get-up and, while I was in that section, I noticed that there are only three Rider-class servants listed (which is fucking weird). And then I clicked Rider of Black's section to see what their deal was and... yeah, wtf?

Of course, the whole Francis Drake thing was equally wtf, considering that a real historical figure who was a guy somehow got gender-swapped (and there's apparently a section about them doing shit like that, which is just silly because there *were* female pirates/privateers, and they could have just used any of them).

Oh, Fate series, you so crazy...

I've only watched F/SN so far. At some point I need to check out some of the others. (And I tried FGO, but wasn't really interested.)

It was a pretty immediate turnoff when I started watching it, not to mention that the anime felt disjointed with the way they connected events (probably because they were trying to abridge an arc?), which might be another reason why I gave up on it relatively early despite liking the arc.

It's almost October and I need to find some horror manga series I haven't read... which I realize might be hard because I've cleared through a lot of the great stuff. (Granted, I guess some of the series I had been following but stopped probably have had a ton of updates.).

My only real problem with the show, is that it's too heavy on the christian mythos. I like that it loosens up later on though.

Basically every major story arc throughout the series seems to reference some facet of Christianity. It never really goes away, although some of it is less obvious. How they tied it all together at the end was silly.

I've been really feeling the convention drought lately. I normally go to 2-3 cons a year, there haven't been any in my area since 2019. Wizard World was already losing interest in having Comic Con in my town so I'd bet that's gone for good, and one of the locally based cons has shifted focus away from conventions for a while because it was a big money drain on them. (They're mainly a charity focused on child literacy through pop culture. I still like to volunteer with them every once in a while because I like the concept.)

tbh, I've never been into cons. I could have got free tickets to NYCC years ago but then that would have entailed going to NYC, and... meh.

Anything worth going to isn't terribly convenient to get to, and the rest is whatever.

I started to realize I don't watch much action series anymore. They're all heavy on shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, Hunter, One Fairy Tail and One Punch Man, and most of what I watch or read lately is drama, comedy, romance, or slice of life. It's kind of a weird feeling being much more into anime/manga in general yet being left out when they talk about those shows.

I like OPM, but the others (except Juju K, which I'm not familiar with) are kinda eh.

A lot of action anime just skews super juvenile, which is a turnoff. Fairy Tail lost me almost immediately

The question we have to ask, though, is whether when someone does wrong we're willing to forgive them if they seem honestly remorseful and make an attempt to atone in some way, or if we'll simply hold it against them for the rest of their lives, regardless of how long that might be, or whether or not they might change as a person over time.

And then the second question we have to ask is, in any given specific case, has the person in question honestly regretted their actions and made a sincere attempt to make amends, or have they not sufficiently atoned based on whatever arbitrary standard we've decided is "good enough" or "not good enough"?

The legal system says "if you're convicted of X crime you're punished in Y fashion for Z amount of time", after which point you've technically fulfilled your debt to society. But we as a culture tend to act on the assumption that if you do something bad even once, you're pretty much fucked until you're dead. And even moreso when you're not convicted of a crime (and thus aren't "punished"), in spite of the fact that none of us are omniscient and have absolutely no idea of whether or not the accusation was even true in the first place.

No matter how much we pay lip service to the idea of people being rehabilitated for their crimes, we almost never actually accept the idea that anyone is ever really rehabilitated, and tend to treat them like criminals for the rest of their lives. Which is kind of fucked up.

I think it's less a matter of forgiving and more just that we like the individuals so we're willing to overlook the fact that they're creeps. Woody Allen molested his own prepubescent daughter, yet asked the AG to make the charges go away and proceeded to have a long career... before (surprise!) engaging in a sexual relationship with another minor daughter (it's almost like somebody should have seen this coming), which *still* didn't kill his career.

And Roman Polanski got a 13 y/o drunk so he could rape her, yet -- rather than wind up canceled or in prison -- he still found work and his films won awards, and his prestige shielded him from justice.

And both cases don't require "omniscience" to know they happened. Polanski has admitted it, and Woody Allen basically did the same thing again because prosecutors refused to stop him the first time. It's similar to Cosby who largely kept getting away with rape so long as he was a celeb, and only faced justice once his star had faded.

Meanwhile you have lots of people who do actually receive a punishment for their crimes whose careers never recover even though they express remorse and don't fucking keep doing the thing they did. Perhaps their crimes should still hang over their head, but you could understand them moving on. It's the guys who suffer no real consequences so they keep doing it that are the problem. And I'm honestly not sure Louis C.K. will clean up his act.

He grabbed a woman by the back of the neck and talked about how he wanted to rape them (which constitutes assault), and he exposed himself to multiple women (and no, he didn't warn them), among other things that would have got anybody else arrested.

Even knob jobbing in front of somebody after you seemingly joke about it was inappropriate because that's not really a "warning", particularly when you're fucking comedian where people don't believe you'd do that.

Started reading Dragon Ball Sai, a doujin manga where instead of Kakarot getting sent to Earth as a baby, Vegeta does. He winds up becoming a jerkass hero, then when Kakarot arrives on Earth, they have an interesting dynamic where Kakarot, a low class, is resentful of Vegeta, the prince, for wasting his potential being on a weak planet and never training for real.

Kinda wonder why he'd become a hero at all, given how long his face-turn took, etc.

A lot of action sequences look like shit in manga and the number of basic continuity errors tend to be higher. It's just a lot faster to read, though, which is nice.

Which game would they play? Dota2 is the most popular, but completely incomprehensible for the casual viewer. CSGO is easier to understand, but very politically incorrect. Rocket League is easy to grasp, but far from the most popular.

Paired with some manner of UBI? Absolutely. Ideally, businesses should be able to pay employees purely on the basis of value generated, without having to consider their costs of living as part of the cost of employing a person to do a job.

Without UBI? Lolno. If you want to employ a person to do a job, you need to be able to pay for that person's survival. If you can't, then you shouldn't be trying to employ them. Without defining a minimum wage, the entire employee market is dragged down to the lowest standard of living any of them is willing to accept, which is just bad for everyone except the employer.

In the absence of socialism and other government systems which fuck up the economy, if a job doesn't pay enough to support workers, those jobs go unfilled and the employers are forced to raise wages or find an alternative.

If that idiotic assumption was correct, then all jobs would pay the minimum wage. The fact that some jobs pay far more than the minimum wage wrecks that idea. However, at the lowest end, the minimum effectively creates a wage monopoly so you have *less* competition on wages where workers have bargaining power because everybody just goes with that number and, the ones who can't -- who, in the absence of government obstruction, might be able to hire less-capable workers at a lower rate they could afford to pay -- are just out of luck, as are those less-capable workers who are priced out of the market (which includes vulnerable populations who can't find work... and then who are either forced to rely on government programs (if they can), or wind up being homeless (if they can't get the government programs))

He's also overlooking the fact that global pandemics were almost never a thing in the past, because outbreaks tended to be isolated (because populations were more likely to be isolated). However, the largest outbreaks were still devastating, and claimed large numbers of people.
