If it's just a normal application, it's probably worth bothering unless it's a retailer or something where you can chat up a manager. The turn-around on retail and other low-end jobs is usually a lot faster than better-paying work but, given that so many things use automated systems now, there might be lag time there as well.

Personally, when I was working low-end stuff in college, if I applied somewhere I'd hear back in a week or two if they wanted me for an interview. This included some of those computerized systems.

It's more of a counterattack considering how often universities attack conservatives including, among other things, denying them the right to speak on campus which -- given that they're heavily subsidized by the government -- borders on unconstitutional at times.

Keep in mind that universities tend to be havens for liberals both in terms of staff (partly because of the way tenure is handled) and (as a result of youth) students as well. Granted, even without the inherent biases, universities would tend liberal because they know where their bread is buttered and liberals overwhelmingly agree to higher subsidies which, in turn, means higher wages for everybody.

Which was likely intended and could reasonably be construed as a joke in very poor taste, especially given his previous history of dumbfuckery on social media. Not that anybody is really arguing the technicality of the violation, mind you. And, more generally, whether he's out or in before sentencing *shouldn't* really matter because it'd count as time served towards his sentence anyway (well, 90% sure. I know that time spent in jail before a conviction counts against the sentence so it should be the same for sentencing.)

It's more than just that, the media cover glorifies school shootings and invites copycats. The suspect was reported as being obsessed with school shootings. (And, of course, it lists him as being bullied, which is something else people tend to gloss over when looking at these cases. It's always cries of either gun control or mental illness. )

You'd be surprised how easy it is to fake a story. The media (particularly local media) basically does no research into the stories they report.

That's more true on a small scale. Larger stuff *always* comes out. The more people involved and the broader the conspiracy, the harder it is to keep it from falling apart. You get whistleblowers like Deep Throat, Snowden, etc, and reporters who tear apart the facts.

Taxes are supposed to cover public spaces like roads and sidewalks, and the US is all about cutting taxes, especially in the more rural parts of the US. In my own city, the citizens are making the town go bankrupt from tax cutting, to the point that we can't even afford our own police or firefighters, much less road maintenance and water lines. I'm honestly running for city council next spring just so I can knock some sense into our ridiculous system.

That's a bogus assumption for the following reason: Connecticut, one of the richest states in the USA, has one of the highest gas taxes in the country and some of the highest car taxes in the country -- both of which are supposed to pay for roads -- but CT's roads and bridges are ranked among the worst in the country.
