That's basically why I didn't feel it (Bitcoin specifically, but crypto in general) was something valuable in 2011 that was worth mining and why I stopped, sold, and didn't buy any crypto until recently. I didn't see it going anywhere. I didn't expect it to be something to be as speculative as it is now. I think that's the value and I don't really see it changing anytime soon.

We're getting close to it, especially with El Salvador making Bitcoin an official currency alongside the US dollar. I've seen Bitcoin and Dogecoin being accepted at some businesses, but that's usually for marketing purposes; the exchange rate changes often, and I imagine they just sell the coin after they get it.

But ultimately, the price is too unstable for people to really trust it if they want the stability of money they own. I think most people getting into crypto are doing it not to exchange it for goods and services someday, but as an alternative investment. It's like digital gold. Nothing wrong with that, but it's more of a speculative asset unless you're actually holding it AND using it for goods and services. It hasn't been proven as a real currency people want to use instead of a traditional currency and it won't be until it's not seen as any more of an investment than a US dollar, Euro, Yen, etc.

In all honesty, the time I saw any crypto most as a currency, El Salvador aside, was when I read a story sometime after the Bitcoin crash but before the boom where some people decided to completely stop using anything but Bitcoin. But right now? Like Elon Musk joked about on SNL about Dogecoin, crypto seems more like a hustle to me than a currency.

Bought $1,000 of the dip.

Considered dropping more, but eh. I shouldn't toss too much of my savings into something that has more room to drop. I'll probably buy more if tomorrow's a red day though and the futures say it might be.

Some people just like buying and selling a lot I guess.

Me? The market isn't even open yet and I'm down 2%.

Looking like a bad day.

And I'm holding. May buy some more, but I'm not sure how close we are to the bottom.

I played with their demo software/account and I didn't like it. Thinkorswim on TD Ameritrade is by far my favorite software to use, personally. I just wish TDA supported my online bank and their margin fees weren't so high (and I need margin sometimes to transfer money to a bank TDA supports then transferring to TDA).

I have been reading that we could face a correction because of the Delta variant, bad retail numbers, and Afghanistan.

Bad losses today. I guess it's because of what's happening in Afghanistan and because of some retail companies like Home Depot not doing so great.

Also in typical meme stock fashion, it went up to about $70. I noticed that meme stocks/crypto tend to top out near $69 (for AMC or $0.69 for Dogecoin) or $420 (GME looks like it topped around $482 aside from premarket) because haha funny numbers

HOOD is either going the way of AMC or going to pull a GME. I really want to think it's going to do an AMC but I have no idea anymore.

Robinhood is certainly easy and it's what got me into investing. I loved it before the meme stock fiasco. I have it to thank for me getting into investing.

I just don't see the future growth making sense. Seems really hard to justify considering all the trouble they've faced in 2020 and 2021.

Why is Robinhood valued so highly? Like, it's valued more highly than TD Ameritrade ($21B) at about $39B. This isn't making sense, TDA is much more established.

Not that valuations matter much anymore, I think GME and AMC kinda proved that. Still, what the hell?

One of my physics professors in college told the story of how he represented himself in a court and tried to use math+physics to prove that he couldn't possibly have been speeding. He apparently hadn't been speeding and there was another car they confused with his.

Apparently the judge told him something like, "the laws of mathematics don't apply to this courtroom" and he had to pay the fine anyway.

Hope it goes well anyway, though.
This is basically why I didn't fight a ticket I got for "driving on the shoulder" on a turn lane. I was told that, basically, traffic judges don't care and aren't interested and hate their jobs so people almost never win. And in California, they're spiteful and will tack on other stuff if you challenge the ticket. They're not impartial and just believe whatever the cop says.

I just paid the fine and went to traffic school.

I considered dropping $10,000 into my ETFs yesterday and I kinda regret not doing so. Oh well. The $1,600 I bought has done pretty well.

On another note, I'm starting to prefer one brokerage that lets me just drop cash in and it invests it automatically into ETFs I chose at the percentages I set. It's fun to manually do trades, but I'm finding myself being more hesitant about buying and selling manually.

Yeah, early on I panic sold a few times and got hurt by it. Now I'm tossing in money from time to time and sometimes I lose money, but I'm more calm about it. There's a difference between tossing in 2-3% of my cash life savings at once compared to putting in 95% of it. Especially in such an uncertain market where more people than ever are talking about a crash.

Kinda thinking of adding to SOFI but not sure considering my losses on it so far.
