The research tasks that have the red arrow indicator next to them give double research level points. You can take advantage of these to speed up the research process. I got a shiny sliggoo in an outbreak after defeating 3 in battle. But this one ran away before I could catch it. After a soft reset, I went back and caught them all. No shiny. But then I reset again.
