Imagine teaching groups of kids pretty much the same thing multiple times a day. Then dealing with unruly loud kids who'd rather play on their cell phones than pay attention.

I'm a teacher and it's pretty awesome.

Teaching the same stuff multiple times is a little boring, but it also means less work prepping lessons. The only annoying thing about material is you are required to teach certain things based on the subject and if it's boring stuff it's hard to keep their interest.

Are you a public school teacher? I assume in the USA. Are you in an affluent community?

I teach at a public school in Ohio. It is a rural school in the middle of nowhere (corn fields on every side of the building), the city its next to is only 12,000 people.

What Ive heard from my teacher friends, rural teaching is fun. The kids are alright, rarely major issues.

everyone I knows that teaches in the city is convinced at least 25% of parents dont even try to raise their kids and just figure its all the schools job.

One bad thing about it is you have to be as conservative as the most conservative parents. You can be fired if you're spotted drinking a beer or wearing a bikini on a beach by a parent.

I kinda wanna part time teach math or finance but that's hard to do with a not teacher job

I might aim for a community college role and help out in remedial classes. I kinda enjoyed teaching when I had to for college classes. I know I wouldn't enjoy fulltime though

I have you marked as 41, was I mistaken, or are you entering the profession late?

Teaching kids isnt that baddealing with admin and parents are the worst parts about the job. I have a conference coming up because the parent doesnt understand how resource classes work, even after I explained it 4 months ago.

@mustachedmystic

42 and will be 43 by the start of the new school year. Yes its late, but Im so tired of the hotel industry and such. Ive subbed for 5 years now and really enjoy helping kids. During lockdown I accelerated a masters program of education and here we are.

That sounds challenging.

I remember when I was a senior my Spanish teacher who I became a teacher's aid for gave me a card with $25 in it. I pocketed the money and put the card in a folder, then threw the folder away without realizing it was in there.

One of the special ed kids dug through the trash and found the card, then the special ed teacher took it to my Spanish teacher and she was distant from me after that whenever I saw her around.

I was like damn, they just let the special ed kids dig through the trash unattended? wtf
