What's the consensus on how Rebirth is turning out at this point, btw? I was very interested in hopping on board when it was new but I fell off for time commitment reasons like I always do. I remember people being hyped up for New 52 and now everyone hates it, so I'm wondering if the same thing is happening again or if it's actually good.

I know Marvel has at least three now and DC has... two? (New 51 and Rebirth, the latter of which I realize isn't a universe reboot but I don't think this newest Marvel one is either?)

Also starting Thursday is 1/2 AP Main Story, so here's your chance to catch up. Looks like Dantes is arriving on March 1st.

Very pumped for Dantes, though I'm probably not going to go deeper than 90 quartz on him. Definitely want to have a reserve for Iskander when he comes around.

Speaking of 1/2 AP for the story, you actually have to have finished London to participate in the mini-event that launches alongside Dantes. (It's basically just a challenge quest a day, no shop or anything.) That being the case, it'd be wise to take advantage of the 1/2 AP and finish London if you haven't!

My win rate is starting to go up at last. Hovered around 50% for ages but I'm up to 56 now and consistently beating everyone at my level. It's crazy how much a small level up of your neutral game does - just knowing how to move a bit better can be the difference between an even match and a stomp. I'd recommend everyone focus on their neutral game before trying to perfect character specific combos!

I liked Wolf's Rain a good bit, but it has a very particular mood and tone that's not for everyone.

I'd agree that you're good just watching Brotherhood and skipping the first series. The beginning parts are indeed a bit rushed, but it's because most folks had already seen that stuff twice by that point, and the versions here are still serviceable.

Keep in mind the very first episode of Brotherhood is basically just a fanservicey filler adventure that partially serves to introduce characters, then the story starts proper from the beginning in ep 2.

I tried the Metal Gear Survive beta over the weekend out of morbid curiosity and hoo boy did it solidify my decision to stay the hell away.

General corpsefucking of what was once my favorite franchise aside, the decision to have a consistent armory and resources across missions in a wave clearing/survival game feels like a cardinal sin. Grind enough resources in other missions and you can just dump the full fury of Mother Base from the outset of any level; it just smacks of poor design to me.

Super is all GOKU GOKU GOKU.

This is kinda sorta true but I feel like side characters have gotten to do way more in this arc than the last 3/4ths of DBZ. Like they're the biggest examples but look at all the cool stuff Master Roshi and 17 got to do here.

Not too great of an episode but it's pretty clear they're saving some dosh for a big finale starting with the next ep.

We're almost at the end of the arc and Jiren has almost done nothing unique that would actually translate in to a fighting game moveset. Like, 90% of what he does is just starting at things. I know Xenoverse's movesets are much more homogenized, but I'm actually curious what they did to make him stand out.

To be completely fair, we don't know this yet. It's very likely, but considering the mining of the costume swap button and the Saiyan space pod in the plaza, it feels equally likely to me that this is going to be a costume.

I'm definitely holding out hope that the datamine isn't 100% accurate and we still have some surprises ahead. In particular, since they datamined out what seems to be a costume swap button, it feels pretty plausible to me that Ranger 17 + Base Goku/Vegeta are costumes instead of full characters.

Berseria was also the first Tales where I actually played as the entire cast more or less equally, everyone's so damn fun in their own ways. My favorites were definitely Eizen and Rokurou, though.

I tried to do the same in Graces but some characters like Malik aren't as fun to play as Asbel/Hubert, and Zestiria actively punishes you for playing as anyone other than Sorey/Rose, which is a darn shame since the Seraphim actually have cool movesets.

Berseria's battle system is A+++++. Even playing on Chaos the game never felt unfair and I had a fucking blast. Tales is interesting in how you can generally go as deep as you want - some folks play on easy/normal and have a ton of fun but if you want to go deeper you can usually go REALLY deep on the higher difficulties.

Except Zestiria, where the critical flaws in the game's design are lampshaded super hard on higher difficulties, whoops.

Tales areas have always been about this quality. They just...never improved over time like everyone else did.

This is accurate for overworld stuff but dungeons have definitely degraded. Compare Symphonia/Graces/Vesperia with all the post-Xillia games full of actually featureless copy-paste caves for most of their dungeons.

Negotiations taking more than like 30 seconds in Sheriff is a pretty weird idea to me. Maybe the groups I played with were playing it "wrong" or something but the game always felt really boring to me. Like it was just going in a circle and doing a thing, rather than each player actually working toward a goal with any real kind of strategy.

The subreddits could honestly stand to be combined but the discord situation is totally out of control. Like this has been going on in fighting games for a long time now but that's really not an excuse. There shouldn't be a separate server for every character in the game.

So once I get all of a CE from the shop I should max limit break it? I can do Parking Lot now and can max limit break the Threefold CE.

This is just my own figuring, but it seems like you should MLB if you have the corresponding gacha CEs, but keep them split if you don't. (At least until you don't need the CE anymore, then you might as well MLB it and slap it on support.)

My thinking is that if you have gacha CEs, you can run your own MLB and a support MLB to hit 100%, then fill the rest of your team with gacha CEs to help with water/ice cream/cat drops. If you don't have those, though, it seems better to run four of your own shop CEs and then use a gacha CE on support to speed up your material farming.

I was already skeptical when they said it was going open world, but I tried to keep an open mind. None of the gameplay we've seen has done anything to alleviate my fears. It looks like we're losing a bunch of unique movesets too, which is just ugh.

Yeah, I believe I've used 7 plus I got a level-up. I read that apparently starting with this event you usually get enough apples per event that you don't need to sweat using them liberally, so I just set a personal rule to never drop below 100 and beyond that I'm not worrying about using them when I want.

This event actually doesn't feel remotely as grindy as some of the other ones we've had to me. Like yeah it's a lot to do but there's still 9 days left. That's more than a week left and I'm already at 71 missions cleared and just skill gems left in the shop. This actually might be the first event I finish early!

Agreed. For this reason I actually think it's BlazBlue.

Both MGS and KH seem insanely convoluted if you're trying to explain it to someone who hasn't actually played the games, but if you play them and are at all paying attention (yes, even for KH) I don't feel like either one is difficult to keep up with at all. KH is a bit tougher because you have to play a bunch of side games but that's kind of your fault if you don't.

BlazBlue by comparison you can play, pay attention and still not know wtf is happening unless you check a wiki.

It's more like making a certain amount is a pre-requisite to be happy but once you clear that bar more helps increasingly less as you clear the bar by more and more.

This sounds the closest to me. I feel like once you can afford to comfortably live in a dwelling that's to your standards and raise a family without stressing every paycheck, you've basically won life. Everything beyond that is just frosting, and there's a lot that can happen at those higher levels that can easily undermine the simple happiness you could have had before.
