Oh well that's a whole different experience then.

The problem was that the final dungeon locked all of the ultimate MAs behind having to explore all of it.

Berseria's battle system is A+++++. Even playing on Chaos the game never felt unfair and I had a fucking blast. Tales is interesting in how you can generally go as deep as you want - some folks play on easy/normal and have a ton of fun but if you want to go deeper you can usually go REALLY deep on the higher difficulties.

Except Zestiria, where the critical flaws in the game's design are lampshaded super hard on higher difficulties, whoops.

Mystic Artes are more or less required on high difficulties. On low difficulties (and even Normal) the game is pretty easy though.

Xillia also had the issue of being a very easy game with barely any difficulty options, and no rewards for raising it.

Graces was EASILY the best at difficulty options and rewards, they put an absurd amount of variation in that game. Might still be better than Bersieria's to me. Shame the story and characters are....hm...

Berseria was also the first Tales where I actually played as the entire cast more or less equally, everyone's so damn fun in their own ways. My favorites were definitely Eizen and Rokurou, though.

I tried to do the same in Graces but some characters like Malik aren't as fun to play as Asbel/Hubert, and Zestiria actively punishes you for playing as anyone other than Sorey/Rose, which is a darn shame since the Seraphim actually have cool movesets.

Hey, Zestiria's Trial shrines are some of my favorite dungeons in the series. Though mostly because of their 10/10 music.

There's some people in this topic who haven't played, it so better safe than sorry.

Graces has my favorite battle system in the series, but it really only gets to that level when you get a lot of CC to throw around, and that takes over half the game.

Also ltm is your problem with Zestiria that it made you go on a "Triforce Hunt" before the final act? I thought it picked up again after finally collecting the iris gems, and had a spectacular final boss

I think everything regarding the plot and ESPECIALLY the presentation completely fell off the deep end in the last third.

Mayvin's resolution was...just awful. I didn't even have the misfortune of having to go on the hunt, I had that stuff done, but even just knowing it's there. The production values are basically nonexistant. 3 major plot threads are just sent off fondue in a request like fashion. EVERYTHING about Rose. From Tiamat on it's cool, but everything from Dezel's death tonthatvisbjust embarrasing.

It's incredibly clear that rewrites and restructured resulted in what was supposed to be a huge entry in the franchise turning into a mess.
