The Stanley Parable (PC)

Decided to end 2023 with one last game after all. I'm not sure how to call this game "beat" since there are many endings depending on what you do in the game. The "normal" ending is just straight up following what narrator says but it's only like 10 minutes of gameplay (you even get an achievement saying you beat the game).
Beyond that is when the game gets interesting because you're free to do whatever you want with some witty dialogue from the narrator commenting on what you're doing.

All in all, it's a quirky walking sim where you're free to go wherever you can and see what happens or you can just run through the game following the narrator and be done with it.

Yes, I did get the ending where the game shifts to Minecraft and then Portal.

I got all the Steam achievements except for the one where you have the game on for full 24 hours during Tuesday, which happens to be tomorrow, so I guess I'll get it then. Looks like my 2024 Steam wrap-up will have an early contender for one of my most "played" games of the year!

Yes, I cheated with getting the Go outside, Speed run, and Unachievable achievements. I'm going with the theme of the game of not always following directions.

Flower (PS3)

Flowers go bloom! This is an interesting puzzle game, very pretty looking for sure. The trophy where you have to go through the 5th level without getting hit sounds like a pain, so I'm not sure if I'll go for all trophies.

And this may or may not end up being the last game I beat in 2023 depending on whether or not I can bring myself to play short games next week.

I recall Turok 2 being my first M-rated game, and it was a birthday gift from a friend.

I remember being so shocked when I received it, "Whaaat??? You got me an M-rated game????"

I think I was only like 10 or 11 at the time, so I was a fairly innocent child......though ironically, I had no problems with playing Conker's Bad Fur Day.

I don't think I got very far in Turok 2 single player, I should probably give the remaster a try.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder (Switch)

I actually 100% this game last week. WONDERFUL game through and through.

Genuinely enjoy most of.....but holy balls was that final level tough.

You know, I started Wonder right after completing NSMBU, and while I think NSMBU is a harder game on average, it doesn't have any stages nearly as tough as the final level in Wonder. Though I would say it has a level on par with Climb to the Beat.

I really don't think I would have beat the final level as soon as I did if I wasn't playing online and a very kind person was helping me throughout the whole level. I sent them a friend request shortly after and we became friends on Switch.

Basically you need 98% of the game done.

The last 2% would be completing Final-Final and getting all Standees.

I mean I was gonna say, the entire thing is done so you'll know by the end if anything is explained or not.

On the plus side regarding yuri, there's a one-episode OVA on Crunchyroll called Kase-san and the Morning Glories. The description says the two girls are already dating, and neither one looks like a horrible person. It's too late to watch it now, but I will tomorrow night! Hopefully this will finally be a yuri anime I can enjoy, even if only for one hour-long episode.

Just know that you'd be watching something like the middle of the story. So you miss out on all the build-up that happened in the manga.

100% completed the game with all 6 file medals.

the last segment of the last level and its flagpole are a bitch though. i lost 30 lives the first time and around 30 doing it again because i missed the damn flagpole.

Exactly my thoughts on the final level. Holy shit was Nintendo cruel putting that there. I seriously doubt I would have finished it as soon as I did had I not been playing online and a very kind soul was helping me with the revives throughout the whole level. We became friends on Switch afterwards.

Man, would not have thought the 2nd level in the game would have such a hidden secret exit.

I was starting to freak out on having several missing stages in World 1. Now it's all cleared.

Only if you have a physical copy.

Delete the game, turn off the internet on your PS5, insert the game disc and let it install. Then play the game while keeping the internet off. You have to keep it off throughout the entire time you're playing the game or else it'll download the update the moment you start the game or it could even download it in the background (don't remember if it's possible to turn-off automatic updates).

If you have a digital copy of the game then well....you're sort of SOL'd.

This fatality was one of the more gruesome ones back in MK2, but this version is toned down quite a bit, due to the camera being behind the opponent, meaning we dont get a good look at them as their two halves fall down.

But it does serve its purpose of being a fast fatality if you failed to do a brutality but still want the XP bonus.

I played the PS4 version and yeah....it's rough. Especially when I've watched streams of what I presume are PC/current gen consoles, which play significantly smoother.

Thankfully, they do seem intent on fixing the performance.
