Uhhh so what the heck is this Blue Eye Samurai anime that popped up on Netflix?

Have literally never heard of it, but apparently it just released a couple days ago to rave reviews.

Digimon is absolutely an isekai.

Digimon was an isekai many many years before I even knew that isekai was a thing

Lots of anime were probably an Isekai and you just didn't realize.

The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland can be considered isekai.

Very good. It's a very competent and faithful adaptation of a series that (Regardless of what you think about the author) deserves all of its reputation as one of the classics.

The Tearmoon manga is great. Only reason I stopped reason is because I caught up and usually dislike keeping up with manga releases.

Yeah it doesn't look like this is going to get much further so far than where the season will probably end, if that. Shut in Vampire manga scans are actually BEHIND where the anime already is.

Malevolent Spirits is the manga I want to read that's translation being behind hurts the most. Literally over a dozen volumes behind the Japanese release, much less where the anime has gotten.

Tearmoon books are tl'd way beyond the anime at least

Damn, I had made a mental note to look into this after finishing S2 of the anime the other day. Sad to hear it's so far behind in English.

My Home Hero was like 40 chapters behind the Spanish translation when I caught up. That one hurt.

I still like it and I like forward to it every week (and we are so close to the Shishio arc starting, surely) buuut I'm still not as much a fan of the Lidenfilms animation style. Same deal w/ Goblin Slayer, I liked how it looked in Season 1 a lot more.

Goblin Slayer is a weird experience. I think it has like a couple very good ideas it executes very well, but bogs down those flashes of excellence with a lot of stuff that detracts from the experience. I like the series enough that I read some of the Light Novels and I'm still not sure I can call it good.

Its entire premise is, "What if D&D but anime with Mando hunting goblins," but goes about it very matter of factly. Vox Machina was made by the Critical Role people with an American style which suited its comedic focus better.

Goblin Slayer doesn't really do anything really well other than expressing a lot of cheeky ways to plan, carry out, and murdering stuff. It is definitely carried by that. It isn't helped it is yet another unearned harem.

About halfway through 20th Century Boys, excellent as expected. Wouldn't put it above Pluto or Monster yet, will see how the rest goes.

A week later and my adoration for Pluto has not deteriorated. It's gonna make my list...I just haven't thought about what that list looks like for a while.

The first third is probably the most loved part of 20CB, so if you don't like it more now, you probably won't later.

The last third does have the best line in the series though.

Oh I absolutely loved it, but yeah it's not landing AS much. Considering what it's being compared to....

GS's main strength is its main character. When the series focuses on his neuroses and pathological goals - often expressed through inventive murder - and allows for slow, introspective moments, it actually does that very well. The best section in the light novels has zero other characters around.

Then it turns around and includes a random harem, so...yeah.

I finished Sacrificial Princess and the King of Beasts. It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it either. Main girl Sariphi is the latest human girl sent as a sacrifice to the titular King of Beasts, but they wind up falling in love instead. The rest of the story is their struggle to have their romance accepted by the rest of the human-hating beast kingdom. There were some cute and heartwarming moments along the way, as well as some decent tension in a few of the arcs. For me, though, the big problem was the characters. Everyone felt incredibly flat. Sariphi was just a self-sacrificing idealistic good girl the whole way through. The King fell in love with her too quickly, in my opinion, and from then on a large part of his personality was just "loves Sariphi". Some of the side characters were fine, and I really liked the lizard and hyena royal guards. I hated the Anubis advisor, though, and he was by far the most important supporting character so that sucked.

I went into this hoping for another anime like Kakuriyo (which is fantasy/romance about a human girl who is kidnapped by an ogre god). Sadly, Sacrificial Princess was nowhere near as good as Kakuriyo. Like I said, I didn't hate it, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

And now I've finally finished The Fire Hunter from earlier this year. It had a few neat ideas. Like, the setting is one where regular fire started combusting people for some reason so now they need to hunt beasts for some kind of beast fire. It's weird, but it's at least neat. Sadly, this might be the jankiest anime I've ever seen, and that's saying something because I've seen Marchen Madchen! The animation in The Fire Hunter was hilariously terrible pretty much all the time. Then there were times where the animators seemingly just gave up and inserted still images of concept art. The concept art at least looked nice, but it was always so jarring and out of place compared to the crappy animation it normally had. There were a bunch of weird decisions in the directing of scenes too. This was a show where, visually, absolutely nothing worked.

Then there was the story, which I will charitably describe as confusing. Despite the characters frequently info-dumping about weird myths or gods or competing groups, I still have no idea what's going on. I have no idea what anyone is trying to accomplish anymore, including the two main characters. I actually groaned when the final episode ended with a season two announcement because that means I have to watch more of this nonsense next year just to try and figure out what the hell is going on.

I've got one ep left in Sacrificial Princess. Have been going through real slowly. It definitely feels like a show for children.

But Kakuriyo had a main character with her own personality and agency! Plus her relationships with everyone built up over time in an interesting and believable way. Sacrificial Princess was just too easy and straightforward for me, which is odd because they faced a lot more obstacles from society than the girl in Kakuriyo ever did. Sariphi was just too flat of a character to make any of it engaging.

Having things be easy for the protagonist isn't always a problem for me.

I read it at the tail end of a bunch of yuri manga and manwha about adults, though, which probably colored it.

After finally figuring out the show's name (Sasakoi from the website link in the video description, thanks for nothing to all those Youtube comments that just said "this manga"), I looked up its premise. Starting with a misunderstanding and reluctance from both sides doesn't sound great, but what the hell I'll still give it a shot.

I still haven't found a good yuri romance anime. All the ones I've seen were disappointing one way or another. Maybe this one will finally be it???

You should look towards manga. "How do We Relationship" is my absolute favorite. Absolutely love "Ring my Bell", too.

I went through a phase of manhwa years ago where I discovered it and was impressed by how fresh the stories seemed compared to manga. Didn't take me long to realize I'd just traded one set of tropes for another.

Did you ever get around to watching Bloom Into You? It's the obvious choice if you want good yuri and refuse to read manga.

I heard Bloom Into You didn't have a good ending in the anime, like apparently it just trails off in the middle of an arc or something. I'll watch it someday but I'm still kind if hoping it gets another season.

I beat this now. Last episode was fantastic. Didn't like most of the show, but the ending couldn't have been better.

Anubis was the worst character in general tho ya
